Forbes: Ukraine’s 128th Mountain Brigade Is Probing Russian Defenses—And Finding 70-Year-Old T-54 Tanks
The Ukrainian 128th Mountain Brigade is testing Russian defenses in P'yatykhatky, facing pro-Russian separatists, Russian reservists and old tanks used as mobile artillery. The Ukrainian army launched its 2023 counteroffensive on June 4 with a dozen or more of its best-equipped and most experienced brigades attacking on various axes, making significant gains on one of them. The balance of power seems to favor the Ukrainians, with the 128th Mountain Brigade and supporting reconnaissance troops advancing a few miles south of their initial positions, despite encountering some resistance in an artillery battle, while also nearing P'yatykhatky from Lobkove settlement. The outcome of the artillery duel around P'yatykhatky will determine the mountain brigade's ability to advance further.

The Epoch Times: IN-DEPTH: Greatest Risk to a Firefighter's Health is Not Fire
The International Association of Fire Fighters will honor 574 men and women who died in the line of duty at the 2023 Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial ceremony in Colorado Springs. Cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths in the fire service, with 75% of the names added to the memorial wall in 2022 having died from occupational cancer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has launched the National Firefighter Registry for Cancer to help firefighters understand the risks they face.
Turnout gear is filled with toxic per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) found to cause cancer. Toxic chemicals from a fire continue to transfer and off-gas from the firefighter's bunker gear and other equipment, and their turnout gear is made from materials containing PFAS. Toxic chemicals are inhaled and absorbed through the skin and can be found in the water, soil, and air. The Fort Worth Fire Department has pushed for decontamination protocols and has recently started a program to provide clean gear on the scene of the fire. However, many cities do not want to spend the money to provide firefighters with a second set of turnout gear.

The Epoch Times: US South Faces Long, Hot Holiday Weekend After Tornadoes
A dangerous heat wave in the South, combined with high humidity, temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and atmospheric instability, threatens to bring more deadly tornadoes and extreme weather. At least four people were killed in twisters that touched down on Thursday in Texas and Florida, and flooding forced nearly 150 people out of their homes. The National Weather Service urged Americans to limit time outdoors, issuing heat warnings affecting millions of people in parts of southern Louisiana and Texas. President Joe Biden was briefed on the weather conditions and committed to offering federal assistance.
