The Federalist Papers: 'Corrupt and Pathetic': Democrats Attempting to Use 'Redos' to Swipe House Majority
'Corrupt and Pathetic': Democrats Attempting to Use 'Redos' to Swipe House Majority
Democrats in the US are looking to use changes to the composition of courts in New York and Wisconsin as a basis for "redistricting redos," in an attempt to regain power following the 2022 midterm elections. Republicans have criticised the move with Nicole Malliotakis of New York calling it "absolutely corrupt and pathetic." Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin also expressed concern over the potential for maps to be changed regularly due to state supreme court results. While some argue that redistricting reform is necessary, others describe such appeal to the courts as a disregard for the principles of constitutional self-government.

Red State: Ending Legalized Robbery: Report Shows How a Nebraska County Is Using Civil Asset Forfeiture to Plunder Drivers
Ending Legalized Robbery: Report Shows How a Nebraska County Is Using Civil Asset Forfeiture to Plunder Drivers
Sheriff's department in Nebraska's Seward County has aggressively employed civil asset forfeiture, making it a major source of revenue for the county, despite a state law banning the practice. Civil asset forfeiture allows officials to seize and keep property that they suspect is connected to criminal activity, even without a criminal conviction or charges. Those caught up in the scheme often have little or no contraband on them, such as one driver who had $18,000 confiscated. As a result, critics argue that it allows law enforcement to target innocent individuals, instead of focussing on drug kingpins, and poses a threat to due process.

Monsoon also claimed drag queens and transgenders were being scapegoated by the right, blatantly hypocritical and victims of homophobia. The queen recently joined other Drag Race alumni in criticising anti-grooming laws in states such as Florida, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Texas. Monsoon will be starring in Doctor Who, having won both RuPaul's Drag Race and Drag Race: All-Stars.

Reddit has warned protesting moderators that it will replace or reorder them if they prevent subreddits from reopening. The moderators belong to communities that have been protesting changes to API fees. Reddit insists the changes are necessary to maintain the site, arguing that third-party developer apps are costing it $10m annually. Protesting communities have argued that the changes have not been communicated properly and that they have been given insufficient notice. While around 9,000 subreddits began protesting earlier this week, the number of those participating has since fallen to around 4,500.

Elon Musk Vs. the Record Labels: Twitter Faces $250 Million Lawsuit over Music Copyright Violations
Several music publishers, including Sony and Universal, are suing Twitter for over $250 million for allegedly facilitating and profiting from copyright infringement. The lawsuit accuses Twitter of ignoring copyright violation notices for around 1,700 songs, meaning it is the "largest social media platform that has completely refused to license the millions of songs on its service." The National Music Publishers’ Association is representing the coalition and is seeking $150,000 per violation. The lawsuit names Elon Musk, who bought Twitter in 2022, and his previous comments criticizing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The outcome of the lawsuit could have significant consequences for Twitter and the social media industry as a whole.
