Forbes: Republicans Threaten To Tank Tax-Cutting Budget Because It Shrinks The Nanny State And Expands Commerce
Lawmakers in North Carolina are negotiating a state budget that could see income tax rates reduced to just 3%. However, some Republican legislators are threatening to vote against the budget due to plans to expand gaming in the state, which could create significant revenue for small businesses and help economically-distressed areas in rural counties. Studies indicate that new casinos in North Carolina could generate between 1,500 and 3,000 new jobs per location and $20 million-$30 million in local tax revenue per facility. Additionally, allowing the state’s lottery to offer video lottery games in bars, restaurants, and convenience stores could generate an estimated $500 million in recurring state funds. Proponents of video lotteries state that authorization could help small businesses impacted by the pandemic by providing them with a new source of income.
Red State: Biden Has Pander Palooza at WH, Makes Cringeworthy Crack About Eva Longoria
Joe Biden made several problematic statements in recent days. During a speech on Wednesday, he claimed they have plans to build a railroad from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean. On Thursday, he spoke about getting rid of "junk fees" on tickets and flipped out when asked about being referred to as "the Big Guy" in a bribery form. He also hosted a screening at the White House for the movie "Flamin’ Hot" and made a cringeworthy comment about being Mexican and every immigrant. Biden also made up a statistic about Spanish speakers in grades K-12, and made a questionable comment about Eva Longoria at the screening.

Fox News: GOP candidates condemn Biden for illicit mishap during White House Pride event: 'Very revealing'
Republican presidential candidates and conservative figures are criticizing President Biden and his administration for their support of pro-trans policies, following a controversial Pride event at the White House that featured topless trans activists. Some, including Sen. Tim Scott and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, have called for Biden's resignation over the event, while others, such as Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, have defended his response to the activists' behavior. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy called the incident "very revealing about where we are as a nation," and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis questioned the administration's priorities in speaking out against this type of behavior while supporting certain educational curriculums.
American Thinker: Thomas Aquinas vs. J.S. Mill
The world is in a tough spot, but I am using my words to make ripples of hope. Although Thomas Aquinas's prayer encourages acceptance of things we can't change, John Stuart Mill reminds us that inaction can facilitate evil. We must find a balance between the two and act as good men in the fight against evil.

Foreign Policy: NATO Has No Good News for Ukraine
Ukraine will not be invited to join NATO at the yearly summit next month in Vilnius due to fears of Russia's reaction, according to Foreign Policy. NATO members are wary of committing full NATO protections in the midst of a war, as they fear it would force them to participate in the ongoing conflict alongside Ukrainian troops. Instead, allies are putting together a package that includes less-than-full membership and security assurances that are far from what Ukraine believes it needs to ward off future Russian attacks. The delay in providing Ukraine with a road map for NATO acceptance is mainly due to the U.S. policy to object to that plan, according to Alina Frolova, former Ukrainian deputy defense minister.

Foreign Policy: Inside Petro’s Peace Experiment
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has announced a six-month nationwide cease-fire between the government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) insurgent group, beginning on August 3. Petro's campaign proposals included peace deals with the ELN and other armed groups in Colombia, and a rethink of the war on drugs. The agreement concerns both sides and is expected to involve the United Nations to monitor compliance. However, the ELN had already stated that their coercive behavior wouldn't necessarily end with the cease-fire. Petro's total peace approach has struggled to reduce violence against civilians, with some cease-fires failing and resulting in lost trust.
Fox News: A bungled response to reports of a China spy station in Cuba signifies Biden’s failed Beijing policy
The Biden administration finally confirmed China’s multibillion-dollar spy base on America’s doorstep, Cuba. White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby admitted that China’s efforts to beef up espionage capability on the island, just 90 miles from the U.S. homeland, were an "ongoing issue" that the Biden administration inherited. China is preparing for conflict with the US, and the Biden team is simply incapable of protecting America from its top security threat, Communist China.

The Epoch Times: Oil Falls as Demand Concerns Offset Supply Cuts
Oil prices fell due to concerns about weaker economic outlook and higher interest rates, outweighing the tightening market from higher Chinese demand and OPEC+ supply cuts. Brent crude fell 0.7% to $75.18 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate slipped 0.9% to $69.99 a barrel. The Bank of England is set to raise interest rates next week, which could slow economic growth and reduce oil demand. However, both oil benchmarks were heading for a small weekly gain after declines in the past two weeks. Rising Chinese demand and voluntary crude output cuts will curb supply, while a weaker dollar also supported oil prices.

Fox News: Los Angeles diocese to hold day of prayer in response to Dodgers' game event honoring ‘drag nuns’
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is pushing back against the Los Angeles Dodgers' decision to honor the "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence," a charitable drag group that dresses like nuns, during its annual "Pride Night." The Archdiocese has called for a day of prayer to coincide with the event. Archbishop José H. Gomez will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, marking the beginning of a day of prayer, and has invited all area Catholics to join him in praying "for renewed respect for the religious beliefs of all Angelenos and all Americans."
The Federalist: Anti-Catholic Hate Has No Place in America’s National Pastime
The Los Angeles Dodgers plan to award the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence with a “Community Hero Award,” causing shock within the Catholic community. The group has a history of defiling religious values, including dressing up as nuns and ridiculing Jesus’ saving passion, death, and resurrection. Despite the grotesque behavior, the corporate media has downplayed the group with euphemisms such as “campy” and “satirical.” The Dodgers decision to honor this group in the name of “inclusivity” and “tolerance” has angered Catholics and is seen as a form of bigotry. Senator Marco Rubio and Brian Burch, the president of CatholicVote, have expressed concerns and pleaded with the Dodgers to reconsider their decision.

The Federalist: Daniel Penny's Indictment Needs The Same Outrage Trump's Got
Marine veteran Daniel Penny is being indicted on charges of criminally negligent homicide and second-degree manslaughter after restraining a threatening homeless man on the New York City subway. The incident, which resulted in the death of the homeless man, Jordan Neely, has sparked outcry and highlights the increasing weaponization of law enforcement against those who resist leftist ideology. The overshadowing of Penny's indictment by the DOJ's charges against former President Trump symbolizes the two-tiered justice system and the potential for the criminalization of self-defense. ( )

The Epoch Times: Public Broadcaster's Decision to Cut Political Editor Roundly Criticised
Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is set to lay off up to 120 staff as part of a restructuring plan which includes the removal of the political editor position. This move by ABC upper management is aimed at making the broadcaster’s political coverage more appealing to younger audiences by transforming it to engage new audiences. Despite winning an 11 percent pay raise and a $1,500 bonus earlier this year, union officials have criticized the latest decision and expressed concerns about the effect of experienced talents leaving the firm.
