Fox News: House Dems will use rare procedural maneuver to force Republicans to vote on abortion rights
House Dems will use rare procedural maneuver to force Republicans to vote on abortion rights
Democrats plan to force Republicans to take a stand on abortion rights in a vote on the Women's Health Protection Act by filing a discharge petition, requiring Republican signatures. Pro-Choice Caucus Chairs Diana DeGette and Barbara Lee along with Rep. Judy Chu, sponsor of the bill, will file it. The bill states that a health care provider has a right to provide abortion services and a patient has the right to terminate a pregnancy prior to viability without being subject to state limitations, restoring protections in place under Roe v. Wade.

IN-DEPTH: Lawmakers Split on Surveillance Authority Reauthorization Amid DOJ, FBI Abuses
Section 702 of FISA, a surveillance tool targeting non-U.S. citizens outside America's borders, also allows U.S. intelligence agencies to target Americans with whom those targeted foreigners have had any interaction, and is set to expire on Dec. 31. However, a string of recent abuse cases concerning the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) apparatus has lawmakers wondering whether to reauthorize the provision, and if so, how. Many lawmakers agree that Section 702 is a useful tool in countering terrorism but disagree on how to preserve citizens' privacy.

Lawmakers are divided over the potential reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which can expand the FBI's possible searches against American citizens, after numerous abuses of the apparatus were revealed. The April 2023 report revealed the FBI had used the foreign intelligence tool 3.3 million times against American citizens without a warrant or court approval. Some of those queries were used against a member of Congress. While many lawmakers acknowledge the usefulness of Section 702 in securing national security, there is disagreement over how to protect citizens' privacy.

Fox News: China wants to militarize AI and Big Tech firms might not even be on our side
China wants to militarize AI and Big Tech firms might not even be on our side
Big Tech has prioritized profit over American values, with their engagement in China being a prime example. Apple's deal with China has contributed to the enslavement of Uyghurs in the country and offers the CCP a back channel to all Apple devices on the mainland. Meanwhile, Google demonetizes YouTube videos in the US that offend the CCP, Amazon partnered with China's propaganda arm to create a selling portal on Amazon.com, and Big Tech firms completely control digital ad markets to arbitrarily inflate the cost of digital ads. In short, they get richer while consumers pay more for products online.

Our government's laissez-faire approach to Big Tech has encouraged the companies to take centralized control over our information, personal data, and markets. Tech companies are so dominant that they can easily buy out any competitors, while the federal government green lights nearly every acquisition Big Tech wants. Despite mounting evidence of Big Tech's exploitation of its power, reform laws have not passed. Our policies need to change to protect consumers, children, and national security by treating Big Tech companies like the multinational corporations they are.

Fox News: Israel government minister slams George Soros for funding groups 'demonizing' Jewish state
Israel government minister slams George Soros for funding groups 'demonizing' Jewish state
Israeli minister Amichai Chikli has accused Alex Soros, the son of billionaire philanthropist George Soros, of having a similar anti-Israeli agenda to his father's. Chikli singled out two non-government organisations (NGOs) for criticism, naming Human Rights Watch and J Street, both of which receive funding from the elder Soros's Open Society Foundations. While J Street claims to be pro-Israeli, it was criticised earlier this year for its support for a rally hosted by a Democrat congresswoman in which Israel was labelled a "catastrophe". Soros Jnr recently took over the running of his father's $25bn fortune.

Fox News: AI program flags Chinese products allegedly linked to Uyghur forced labor: 'Not coincidence, it's a strategy'
AI program flags Chinese products allegedly linked to Uyghur forced labor: 'Not coincidence, it's a strategy'
Tech firm Ultra has used its artificial intelligence-powered tool called Publican to identify products possibly made by forced labor from the Uyghur population in China, which are being sold in the US through the Temu platform. Publican analyses a large quantity of shipping data to identify red flags for goods with possible fraud issues. The products on Temu were linked to Xinjiang-based businesses and were sold at unusually low prices, leading to suspicions of a possible link to shop manufacturing in detention centers.

Temu bypasses Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) standards for shipping by avoiding detection or inspection of goods associated with the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China under $800. The platform already has over 50 million downloads worldwide. Ultra found that comparisons of the same product on Pinduoduo, Temu's sister platform in China, clearly showed that products were coming from locations uncomfortably close to Uyghur detention camps. Ultra hypothesized that Temu was deliberately designed to avoid US trade policies and to undermine the US economy.

The Epoch Times: Over 40 Australian Government Agencies Feared to Be Victims of Russian Cyber Attack
Over 40 Australian Government Agencies Feared to Be Victims of Russian Cyber Attack
Australian government agencies including Home Affairs, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), and the Department of Defence have been impacted by a recent cyberattack on Australian law firm HWL Ebsworth. The attack reportedly resulted in the theft of four terabytes of company data, including sensitive information, and concerns have been raised that other agency clients of the law firm, including those of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Treasury, and the Department of Foreign Affairs, may have also been impacted. The government is investigating the potential impact on government data, and HWL Ebsworth has been granted an injunction to prevent the publishing of the data online by cybercriminal group AlphV.

Australian law firm HWL Ebsworth has been hacked by the Russian cybercriminal group AlphV, leading to a data breach of potentially sensitive and confidential information held by at least 40 government agencies, including Home Affairs and the Department of Defence. The government is investigating the extent of the breach, and while the attack has so far only compromised the law firm's database, concerns have been raised that sensitive data belonging to the agencies could be compromised. The law firm has been granted an injunction against AlphV to prevent the disclosure of the stolen data, and the Australian government continues to investigate the impact of the data breaches on government data.
