28-Year-Old Illegal Arrested for Allegedly Posing as High School Student for a Year
An illegal immigrant, aged 28, reportedly posed as a ninth-grade student at a Louisiana high school. Martha Jessenia Gutierrez-Serrano attended courses at Hahnville High School as a 17-year-old during the course of a year in 2022, with her mother charged for using a false passport to enroll her. Allegedly evading suspicions, the situation was reportedly brought to authorities' attention via a tip off from an anonymous individual. Both mother and daughter were arrested and will face charges concerning the public record.

The Blaze: Critics pounce on VP Kamala Harris for demanding 'an assault weapons ban'
Critics pounce on VP Kamala Harris for demanding 'an assault weapons ban'
Vice President Kamala Harris advocates for an assault weapons ban, claiming that "weapons of war have no place on the streets of a civil society." Republican Rep. Thomas Massie responds by accusing Harris of wanting government agencies to possess these firearms while disarming citizens. Others also push back against the vice president's gun control advocacy, arguing that a civil society needs "weapons of war" to protect against tyrants. President Joe Biden also tweets in support of gun control.

The American Spectator: DeSantis’ Plan to Tear Down the DOJ Is What All the Candidates Need
DeSantis’ Plan to Tear Down the DOJ Is What All the Candidates Need
The Trump indictment in Miami and its political impact are discussed, highlighting concerns about weaponized government and abuse of power. The column argues that action is needed to save the country, rather than a focus on personality or political party. DeSantis is presented as a candidate with strong plans for reorganizing federal agencies and breaking down the corrupt Machine. The focus is on actions, accomplishments, and winning in 2024 to save the country, with a demand for a plan to reorganize the federal government from all candidates.

Breitbart: Kamala Harris Pushes for Ability to Sue Gun Makers for Crime
Kamala Harris Pushes for Ability to Sue Gun Makers for Crime
VP Kamala Harris called for numerous gun controls, including the repeal of a law that shields gun makers from lawsuits when legally-made firearms are legally purchased but later used in a crime. Harris tweeted her support for banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, strengthening background checks, enacting safe storage and red flag laws, addressing the mental health crisis related to gun violence, and repealing the immunity that protects gun manufacturers from liability. The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) provides this protection and is an oft-stated goal of President Biden's. However, the PLCAA does not protect manufacturers if a faulty firearm causes injury but rather protects them from frivolous lawsuits.

The Epoch Times: Oregon's Senate Walkout Ends as Republicans Rejoin the State Senate
Oregon's Senate Walkout Ends as Republicans Rejoin the State Senate
Oregon Senate's Republican members ended their six-week walkout and reached a compromise with the Democrats on stalled bills relating to abortion, transgender healthcare, and gun safety. The Republicans opposed measures on abortion and gender-affirming care, which Democrats said would still ensure abortion access and protect caregivers from anti-abortion or gender-affirming care measures passed by other states. As both parties agreed, minors seeking abortions but wanting to avoid telling their parents, such as in cases of incest, a provider would have to obtain approval from a second provider. The boycott also blocked the approval of the two-year state budget and a gun-safety measure.

On June 1, Senate Democrats voted to fine senators $325 every time their absence denied a quorum. Oregon Democratic House and Senate members also sponsored a joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state Constitution to require a majority of each chamber in the Legislature to be present to conduct business. If passed by the Legislature, it would go before Oregon voters in a ballot measure in the 2024 election. The governor is pleased that lawmakers from the House and Senate came together before the regular session ends. Oregon is currently one of four states that require a two-thirds majority rather than a simple one, and state representatives have introduced a resolution to amend the state's constitution and for a simple majority.

The Epoch Times: Trump Had Right to Records Central to Federal Criminal Case, Legal Analyst Says
Trump Had Right to Records Central to Federal Criminal Case, Legal Analyst Says
Legal analyst Mike Davis argues that the federal indictment against former President Donald Trump is legally flawed in charging him with violating the Espionage Act when he had the right to hold onto classified documents under the Presidential Records Act. Davis further asserts that there is no evidence that Trump tried to harm US national security with the documents. The decision within the Biden administration to indict Trump over the retention of documents has been described as politically motivated by Davis, Trump, and several other Republican politicians. Davis argued prosecutors will have a hard time convincing jurors to convict Trump in the documents case, largely because they cannot demonstrate that he sought to harm national security.

New Hampshire Poll: 11-Point Swing from DeSantis to Trump
Former President Donald Trump has a 32-point lead in New Hampshire for the Republican nomination, with 44 percent support among likely primary voters, following his indictment and the entry into the race of Ron DeSantis. A National Research survey found that DeSantis fell six points to 12 percent, while former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie rose by seven points to seven percent, with tie between former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Senator Tim Scott at five percent and Doug Burgum at three percent. Despite the indictment and increasing competition, Trump has gained five points and an 11-point swing in his direction over the past month.

Bud Light Dethroned by Modelo Especial, New Queen of Beers
Bud Light has lost its position as the top-selling beer in the United States to Modelo Especial due to a drop in retail sales by 24% compared to the previous year. This decline was partly due to an organised boycott in response to Bud Light's alliance with LGBTQ+ Pride events, which has been characterised by spontaneous disgust amongst customers.

Rubio’s Ad Slamming 'Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence’ Rejected
Marco Rubio's ad slamming the anti-Christian group "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" was rejected by the TV station that airs Dodgers' games during their tenth annual "Pride Night." After the backlash from religious groups, the Dodgers withdrew their invitation to the radical anti-Christian group, however, later re-invited them to the team's Pride Night and apologized to the group, stating that the apology was sincere. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops condemned the Dodgers' decision to honor the group and called it blasphemy. Amid the controversy, the Dodgers announced they would hold a Christian Faith and Family Day on July 30.

Government Watchdog Agrees to Probe Effects of Offshore Wind Turbines
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) will conduct an independent investigation into the environmental effects of offshore wind turbines, in response to a request from Republican congressmembers. The investigation will focus on potential economic and marine-life problems affecting commercial fishing in the North Atlantic Planning Area. Senators from New Jersey, Connecticut, Oregon, and Rhode Island have asked for greater transparency, and a pause on offshore wind projects, until the study is completed. The effects of offshore wind turbines on whale mortality has also become a prominent issue. Concerns from fisheries scientists about the ability of fish to feed or spawn due to the turbines have also been expressed.

The American Spectator: Why We Find Ourselves Unable to Look Away From the Hysterical News Cycle
Why We Find Ourselves Unable to Look Away From the Hysterical News Cycle
The pandemic has increased paranoia and mental health problems, with a worldwide rise in anxiety and depression. Henry James’ novella The Turn of the Screw is relevant in our “anxious age,” as it portrays a governess who descends into paranoia and madness, fearing ghostly apparitions. The more we obsess over the events that instill fear and stress, the more control they wield over our thoughts and lives. Like the neurotic governess or those with mental health issues, it is “only another turn of the screw” into insanity.
