The Blaze: MacIntyre: The gulag comes to you
The modern total state uses technology as a tool for political oppression instead of large-scale violence. The education system, universities, woke capital, and social media platforms all play a role in suppressing opposition. Punishment includes demonetization, bans, denial of service, and even formal law enforcement solutions. The general criminalization of political opposition seems to be accelerating at a breakneck pace.
American Thinker: A rousing two days for conservatives out west
The 2023 Western Conservative Summit in Denver featured speeches on western issues, the southern border, pro-life issues, and the presidential election. Senator Josh Hawley spoke on the importance of defending American civilization against the assault of the left and the dangers of new Marxism. Representative Lauren Boebert, Tulsi Gabbard, and other notable individuals also shared their perspectives. Riley Gaines spoke on the issue of transgender athletes in sports. Workshops focused on topics such as Christian nationalism and taking back communities.
The Blaze: Dem LA councilman faces corruption charges after allegedly voting on projects he had financial interest in, collecting medical benefits for woman while still married to someone else
Democratic Los Angeles City Councilman Curren Price faces corruption charges including five counts of grand theft, three counts of perjury, and two counts of conflict of interest. Price is the fourth Los Angeles City council member to face criminal charges in the past four years. Price voted on development projects in which he had a financial interest and collected medical benefits for his now-wife while he was still married to his former wife. Price will be stepping down from his position following the charges but did not explicitly confirm that he would give up his seat.
PJ Media: State Senator Advises Parents to Flee California If They Refuse 'Gender Affirmation' Treatment for Their Kids
Democratic California's state government has taken complete control, featuring arrogance from the political class and a frontal assault on parental rights. Under a proposed new bill, parents who don't offer "gender-affirming care" to their children could be sent to jail for child abuse. If you love your children, you need to flee California.
Fox News: Collapsed Davenport, Iowa, apartment building mostly dismantled, investigators hired
The city of Davenport, Iowa has hired two firms to investigate the partial collapse of a six-story apartment building which killed three people. Many questions remain over why residents were allowed to stay despite months of warnings about the building's safety. Tenants had expressed their concerns to structural engineers, city inspectors, and management, but their complaints went unheeded. Demolition work is ongoing, but could be hampered by the risk of hazardous asbestos materials. The city is also investigating visits from fire and inspection officials to the building, the day before the collapse. The landlord has admitted guilt to several civil infractions regarding safety conditions at the building.
Foreign Policy: Is Senegal’s Exceptionalism Over?
Senegal’s capital Dakar is experiencing violence and unrest following the recent sentencing of Senegalese President Macky Sall's main opponent on defamation and rape charges. Sall is hinting at a bid for a third term, despite running on a campaign promise to serve only two terms. His supporters accuse the government of trying to prevent him from running and are protesting. Sonko's trial raises concerns about the country’s stability, with terrorists and violent extremists exploiting political instability to increase their activities and intensify attacks. Senegal has been spared thus far, but the unrest and political instability raise the risk that it could follow regional trends.
Senegal has been largely spared from terrorism and coups due to its counterterrorism mechanisms, developing preventive domestic components, and the resilience of the religious brotherhoods. However, terrorism is starting to spread across the Sahel, and the unrest in Senegal raises concerns about stability, posing a risk that counterterrorism measures may not be sufficient. The population's growing dissatisfaction, youth unemployment, and frustration make terrorism more attractive to the vulnerable group. Jihadist Salafism sees violence as necessary for changing the world order. Senegal's young population is at risk, with some having already joined violent extremist groups in Africa and the Middle East. Experts believe political instability has created a fertile ground for al Qaeda to establish itself in the country.
Washington Free Beacon: CNN's Tapper Refuses To Cover 'Potentially Dangerous' Trump Remarks
CNN's Jake Tapper refused to broadcast a speech by former President Donald Trump, citing its potential danger. Trump's comments were called "untrue and unfounded" by Tapper, who accused him of trying to undo an election. After being arraigned at a Miami courthouse, Trump went to a nearby Cuban restaurant to mingle with locals, an event that CNN filmed. Trump's supporters sang him "happy birthday," a scene that one CNN commentator called a "spectacle." Trump shot back at Tapper on Truth Social, accusing him of trying to shut down the broadcast because of "too much enthusiasm on the streets for 'Trump'."

National Review: Starbucks to Pay $25 Million to White Manager Fired after Viral Arrest of Two Black Men
Starbucks has been ordered by a federal jury to pay former regional manager Shannon Phillips $25.6m after being found guilty of wrongfully firing her in relation to the arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia store. The jury ruled that Phillips’s civil rights were violated and that the firing, which resulted from the company's response to the incident, broke a New Jersey law against racial discrimination. Starbucks was ordered to pay $600,000 in compensatory damages and $25m in punitive damages. Phillips’s lawsuit alleged that the company acted to punish her and other white employees in the wake of the incident.
Daily Wire: Demi Lovato Says She Got ‘Tired’ Of Using ‘They/Them’ Pronouns
Pop singer Demi Lovato explained in an interview with GQ Hype Spain why she decided to stop primarily using "they/them" pronouns and return to "she/her" at the end of August 2022. Lovato, who came out as non-binary last year, stated that constantly educating people on their pronouns was "absolutely exhausting," and that she wanted to continue raising awareness without draining herself. The singer noted that while she currently refers to herself as "she/her," she has identified with a more feminine energy recently and that respecting other people's pronouns is crucial.
The Epoch Times: COVID Baby Boom? Mostly in Red States
A study shows that birth rates increased in Republican states such as Texas and Florida during the COVID pandemic, while they plummeted in blue states like New York and Connecticut. The study suggests that the drop in fertility was due to the panicked reaction of Democratic state governments to COVID, resulting in more social distancing and prolonged closures of businesses, schools, and churches. Economic devastation caused by lengthy closures resulted in the loss of millions of jobs, leading couples to be hesitant about having children. COVID vaccination may also be a considerable risk to female reproductive systems, causing menstrual irregularity, reducing fecundity and being related to higher rates of miscarriage and stillbirths. .

Breitbart: Nolte: San Francisco Residents Forced to Buy Planters to Deter Homeless
Democrat-run San Francisco residents raised $25,000 to buy heavy planters to keep homeless people out of their neighborhood. Despite the city's annual budget of $6.4 billion, the problem was ignored by the government for years. People reported criminal activity, including threats, drug use and an illegal bicycle chop shop. The permanent homeless are suffering from addictions, mental illness or both, and need to be institutionalized. Democrats want the cities to implode and people to be dependent on the state. The decline of beautiful cities is deliberate and the voters who choose Democrats to destroy their cities are to blame.
Flag And Cross: 'Times' Airs Accusations That Religious Jews In New York Are Polluting Wells
Anti-Semitic groups are targeting the Orthodox Jewish community in New York and New Jersey, accusing them of contaminating the environment with traditional burial practices and attempting to block the construction of a new burial site. These groups were identified as white supremacist groups by community education and culture specialist Moshe Krakowski, director of doctoral studies at Yeshiva University. Governor of New Jersey, Phil Murphy, denounced these groups in 2020 for their "racist and antisemitic statements", while community activist Tzvi Waldman hopes dialogue between government officials can resolve the issue before it worsens.

The Epoch Times: South Africa Brands as Unfair US Politicians' Call to Punish It for 'Supporting' Russia
US Congressmen are calling for punitive action against South Africa for allegedly supporting Russia in its war against Ukraine. The letter has argued for the termination of South Africa’s access to the African Growth and Opportunity Act, which gives preferential access to American markets, and for the AGOA Forum to be moved away from Johannesburg, due to concerns for U.S. national security and foreign policy interests. The South African Government said any punitive action taken would be based on hysteria, hearsay, and contempt for South Africa’s sovereignty.

Forbes: TikTok Ban Alternative: New Bill Seeks To Tackle App’s Access To U.S. Data, Report Says
Five US senators are proposing the Protecting Americans' Data From Foreign Surveillance Act, which would regulate exports of Americans’ private data. This includes only transferring personal information to trustworthy places and restricting transfers to those deemed untrustworthy. Personal data transfers from a company with at least 1 million users would be prohibited to a parent company receiving data requests from “a hostile foreign government.” This would affect thousands of companies that routinely transfer data to other jurisdictions, including data brokers and other social media companies. This comes amid growing national security concerns surrounding TikTok, which has allegedly been able to track user keystrokes and spy on American citizens, leading to a ban on its use by numerous states and even a proposed total ban.

Red State: Student Loans - Pay Your Own Debts!
The NAACP is disappointed by the ending of student loan payment pauses by the Biden Administration and wants higher priority given to narrowing the wealth gap. Black borrowers are 50% more likely to default on loans. The NAACP demands that the administration pursues all legal pathways to implement permanent solutions that respect loan borrowers, make higher education more accessible and affordable, and end pushing Black borrowers into poverty. However, the Federal Government should not address racial wealth gaps as it is not an enumerated power. The best way to make higher education more affordable is to get the government out of financing education, where billions have inflated costs and given rise to useless degrees. The Supreme Court will rule on the issue, and any forgiveness abrogates contract law and responsibility. Taxpayers will end up paying for the debts of students who evade responsibility.
Forbes: Gas Prices Fell $1.50 Since Record Last June, And Experts Say They Could Keep Falling
Gas prices in the U.S. have fallen nearly $1.50 since June 2021, with the national average price for a gallon of gasoline dropping to $3.59, down from $5.02. The drop in gas prices is attributed to a drop in oil prices, which is mitigating any increases at the pump. Despite gas demand starting to crawl upwards heading into summer, experts believe prices at the pump won’t go near last year’s peak as oil prices continue to fall.
Drivers in nine states are paying more than $4 on average for a gallon of gas, with California having the highest average price of $4.89 due to high taxes and the use of a cleaner but more expensive summer fuel blend. GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan believes there’s an “extremely long shot” of gas prices hitting the dreaded $5 mark anytime soon, and he’s building confidence that the national average could dip below $3 per gallon this fall. Prices are expected to keep dropping as oil prices continue to fluctuate, and changes in oil prices tend to coincide with changes in gas prices.

He now trails just Tesla CEO Elon Musk and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault in net worth.
Fox News: Rhode Island seeking federal funding for Newport Cliff Walk repairs
Rhode Island seeks federal funding to repair the damaged Cliff Walk, which sustained significant damage due to coastal erosion in March 2022 and a December storm. Gov. Dan McKee declared a disaster that would allow the state Department of Transportation to apply for $10 million in emergency relief funds from the Federal Highway Administration. According to a study published in 2018, more than 1.3 million people walk the path annually, contributing to the local economy by $200 million.
Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravong called for partnership between the local, state, and federal governments to restore this iconic American vista. A partial closure and potential harm to Newport's tourism, a major contributor to the local economy, was cited as a reason for the federal government's involvement. Rhode Island estimates comprehensive Cliff Walk repairs could cost up to $13.75 million, and a 2013 federal funding of $5.13 million was secured to make repairs following Superstorm Sandy.

Breitbart: Nolte: Faltering Disney Reschedules ‘Star Wars’ … Again
Disney has rescheduled all of its major franchises, including pushing the next Avengers film to 2027 and the next Avatar film to 2025. The next Star Wars movie has also been pushed to 2026, marking seven years between Star Wars features, which is catastrophic for a franchise that was once infallible and universally beloved. Experts say that Disney is in a state of creative bankruptcy and Kathleen Kennedy, the head of Lucasfilm, is to blame for sticking her finger in the eye of Star Wars fans, promoting joyless feminists, Black Lives Matter terrorists, and homosexuals, and throwing anything against the wall to see what sticks.

The Epoch Times: UK Says No to Chemically Castrating Children
The UK's National Health Service (NHS) will no longer allow puberty-blocking drugs for minors except in clinical trials. The new rule comes from recommendations in the Cass Review, which identified "significant uncertainties" around hormones. The approach for children showing gender incongruence is an "integrated multidisciplinary team approach, fully involving the child or young person and their family,” with an emphasis on exploring “all developmentally and psychosocially appropriate options," the agency stated.
Red State: Proposed California Law Gets Government and Insurance Companies Involved in Surrogate Pregnancies for Gay Men. What Could Go Wrong?
California is considering amending a health insurance bill, which would redefine “infertility” to also include same-sex male partners using surrogates. The proposal is redefining infertility from a medical condition which can be treated to a status which would encompass everyone. It aims to ensure that gay couples pay no more for starting families than straight couples. However, the mandates would raise annual premiums for employer-sponsored plans by over $330m, which will affect Californians who are not underwritten by their employer. The proposal puts the state in the position of subsidising surrogate pregnancies. Critics argue that surrogacy is exploitative, creating opportunities for the child trafficking industry.
The Epoch Times: Colorectal Cancer–Early Detection, Risk Factors, and the Role of Vitamin D
Renowned Japanese composer and environmental activist Ryuichi Sakamoto passed away from colorectal cancer at age 71 in Tokyo. Chadwick Boseman, the lead actor in "Black Panther," also died from colon cancer at age 43 in August 2020. Their deaths have increased awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer. It is the third most fatal cancer in the US, with over 100,000 new cases and 50,000 deaths estimated in 2023. Risk factors include family history, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, and smoking or alcohol consumption. Vitamin D, obtained from sources like fish and mushrooms, may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. Early detection and healthy lifestyle practices can help prevent and cure the disease.
The Epoch Times: The Alarming Dangers of Synthetic Marijuana
Synthetic weed, also known as Spice or K2, is a manufactured, synthetic drug that mimics the effects of marijuana but is more dangerous due to harmful chemicals. Synthetic weed can be consumed using smoking, vaping, or even added to tea or baked goods, and has been linked to severe health consequences including stroke, seizure, psychosis, violent behavior, hypertension, chest pain, severe nausea, and vomiting. Synthetic weed is not detectable on most standard hospital drug screens, and hospitals need to better identify and treat health problems related to synthetic weed. Law enforcement received a new tool to fight synthetic cannabinoids in November 2021 with an A.I. model that can predict what kind of new synthetic drugs are most likely to appear on the market, potentially shrinking drug investigations from months to days.

National Review: What Americans Really Think about Abortion
Americans' views on abortion have shifted since the Dobbs leak in May 2022. While support for abortion rights has decreased, there is still a slight majority in favor of legal abortion. Democrats have become more united in their support for abortion rights, with 60 percent now in favor of abortion in all circumstances. Americans remain divided on the legality of abortion by trimester, with 69 percent believing it should be legal in the first trimester and 55 percent believing it should be illegal in the second trimester. A significant portion of respondents, 37 percent, favored a law banning abortion after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, but whether or not such a law includes exceptions may impact public opinion.
Fox News: Transgender athlete, youth sex change ban clears Ohio House committee
Ohio lawmakers have proposed a controversial bill that would ban transgender student-athletes from participating in girls' sports and prohibit gender reassignment procedures for minors. The proposal requires schools and universities to create 'separate teams' for male and female sexes and explicitly forbids transgender girls from taking part in girls' sports. However, it allows transgender athletes to play on male or co-ed teams. The supporters of the bill claim it is to promote fairness in competition, while opponents say it can be cruel to children who just want to play sports and build friendships with teammates who align with their gender identity.
