David DePape will face federal charges of assaulting an immediate family member of a federal official and attempted kidnapping of a federal officer, resulting from an alleged home invasion attack on Paul Pelosi. The federal trial will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 11, prior to the state trial.

DNA evidence from a drinking glass connected Nilo to 4 attacks on women in Boston's Charlestown area between August 2007 and December 2008. Pinkham was identified while publicly speaking about the case and appearing on camera on ABC's "Good Morning America" news programme. Nilo is due to return to court on 13th July.

Illinois man Zachary Capers has been sentenced to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill to the double homicide of an Edwardsville couple. Capers was indicted in April 2019 in the killings of 68-year-old Lois Ladd, a chiropractor, and her husband, 79-year-old Michael Ladd, a contractor. Both had been stabbed to death.

Scientists at North Carolina State University have successfully used a technique called "gene drive" to manipulate gene sequences and sterilise female spotted wing drosophila flies. Depending on the level of contamination, the researchers say that introducing just one modified fly for every four normal ones should wipe out the entire population in five months. Industrial fruit growers often depend on chemical sprays to combat the pest but Bill Hutchison, an extension entomologist with the University of Minnesota, says that pesticides can actually spread diseases and kill other beneficial insects. Hopes are high that this technique will be an effective new weapon in the fight against pests.
