Front Page Magazine: FBI's Misuse of Surveillance Tool Underscores Need for Conservative Oversight
FBI's Misuse of Surveillance Tool Underscores Need for Conservative Oversight
The FBI is under scrutiny for its abuse of Section 702, a surveillance tool designed to thwart terrorism and collect intel on foreign administrations. However, it inadvertently seizes the communications of US residents and organizations communicating with these foreign individuals. Almost 300,000 incidents of misuse in 2021 have been recorded in searches connected to the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the US Capitol and the Black Lives Matter protests. Conservatives must critically examine these activities to protect Americans' rights and privacy.

Section 702 violates the privacy of American citizens. The FBI performed more than 278,000 searches contravening Justice Department guidelines and overtook the communications of US residents and organizations communicating with foreign targets. Advocates contend that the FBI employs this tool as a loophole for searches without a warrant, sidestepping judicial supervision. Despite the Supreme Court upholding Section 702's constitutionality, Congress must ensure that the tool is used responsibly. Conservatives must support comprehensive reforms that address the misuse of Section 702 and strengthen privacy protections.

Townhall: Illusion in Progress - 2023 UN Climate Change Conference
Illusion in Progress - 2023 UN Climate Change Conference
The UAE will host COP28, presenting themselves as champions of green energy while hiding their determination to remain a major oil exporter and their record of human rights violations. The conference will be presided over by the head of the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, reducing its credibility. Despite concerns raised by European and US politicians, former Secretary of State John Kerry has blessed the appointment. Human rights abuses in the UAE continue, including the continued imprisonment of the UAE 94 and the arbitrary detention and deportation of migrant workers and foreign nationals.

The Epoch Times: Judge Lets E. Jean Carroll Seek More Damages Against Trump in Defamation Lawsuit
Judge Lets E. Jean Carroll Seek More Damages Against Trump in Defamation Lawsuit
Former President Donald Trump is facing further legal action from E. Jean Carroll, who has won approval to amend her defamation lawsuit against him to include comments he made about her at a CNN town hall. The suit is now seeking $10 million in compensatory damages. She had already won $5 million in a separate defamation lawsuit in May. Lawyers for Trump have argued that the comments made during the CNN event are protected by the fair reporting privilege, meaning they cannot be used to enhance the damages Carroll can seek.

Separately, Trump has pleaded not guilty to 37 felony charges related to his handling of classified government documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after he left office. His supporters have described the indictment as politically motivated.

Townhall: Joe Biden on 'Transgender Americans'
Joe Biden on 'Transgender Americans'
President Joe Biden delivered a message celebrating Pride Month on the White House grounds. He spoke about ending the ban on transgender individuals in the military and expressed support for the transgender community, especially transgender children. Biden urged Congress to pass the Equality Act, which would prohibit discrimination based on gender identity in various areas, including public accommodations, education, federal funding, and employment. It would also allow individuals to access facilities based on their gender identity and compete in sports events according to their gender identity. However, the Catholic Church's Catechism differs from Biden's message, stating that homosexual acts are contrary to natural law and that human beings are created male and female with equal dignity and complementarity.

The Epidemic of Bicycle Theft in the Netherlands
Muslim migrants in the Netherlands have been identified as being responsible for stealing bicycles, leading the town of Dronten to offer them cheap bicycles to decrease the number of thefts. The authorities hope that the policy will reduce crime more cheaply than traditional methods. A spokesman for the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers said that a workshop for bicycle maintenance would also be made available. However, the initiative has been criticised by some, including Dutch Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders, who commented: “Will they also give millions to potential bank robbers to prevent bank robberies?”.

Front Page Magazine: Disney Works to Destroy the Values that Built its Company
Disney Works to Destroy the Values that Built its Company
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Walt Disney Co. are in dispute over Florida's Parental Rights in Education Act, which bars instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K-3 and 4-12. LGBTQ advocates have labelled it the "Don't Say Gay" law, however, it prohibits instruction of any sort in these categories. Disney opposes the law and has sued after DeSantis removed the special tax and regulatory treatment that Disney enjoys in Florida. DeSantis has noted that the LGBTQ community's interest is in indoctrination, not education. Meanwhile, every family in Florida can apply for a voucher, estimated to be worth $8,700, to send their child to any private school they wish.

Foreign Policy: Big Tech Is in Crisis in Africa
Big Tech Is in Crisis in Africa
Facebook’s parent corporation, Meta, faces ongoing legal troubles in Africa after a Kenyan court ruled that it can be sued for unfair dismissal and blocked the sacking of 184 African tech workers hired as Facebook moderators. Meta claims that it does not employ the sacked staff of its third-party contractor Sama, a US-based outsourcing company. This latest ruling follows previous significant blows to Facebook in Kenya, where the company is facing three court cases. The Kenyan labor court has ruled that it has authority to hear cases filed by former Sama employees alleging worker exploitation and union-busting. Meanwhile, a $1.6 billion lawsuit against Meta by the Katiba Institute, Ethiopia and two Ethiopian individuals has been allowed to go forward.
