Liberty Nation: NYC Asks Residents to Rent Rooms to Migrants
NYC Mayor Eric Adams wants to house illegal migrants in churches and residents’ spare bedrooms, but cutting other services to fund the initiative. He plans to partner with the New York Disaster Interfaith Services to acquire 50 houses of worship across five boroughs to shelter 1,000 migrants for up to $54,000 a day. This move has led to criticism, with some concerned about legal challenges, the lack of vetting, and whether the city will be liable if housed migrants commit crimes.
As the city continues to rent hotel rooms and entire hotels for migrants, some New Yorkers are paying more per night for migrants than they would pay for themselves. Residents are seeing services, such as meals for senior citizens and day care for three-year-olds, cut to accommodate migrants. Democrat-run states are starting to face the consequences of their open-borders policy, and New York City is looking to trim or remove its “right to shelter” policy, which promises housing to migrants within 24 hours of arrival due to the lack of accommodations.

Red State: Headlines on Target Bomb Threats Show You Don't Hate the Press Enough
Target faced controversy for promoting LGBT clothes and swimsuits for children. The retailer initially refused to withdraw the merchandise but later moved them to the back of stores due to "threats" against employees. The media has reported bomb threats across several states, but these threats were actually in response to Target's response to the conservative boycott, not over the merchandise itself.

Forbes: The Credit Card Competition Act Is Not Necessarily A Good Deal For Consumers
Congress is considering a bill that would require credit card companies to allow merchants to process transactions on networks other than their own to lower interchange fees, but it would ultimately harm low-income households and reduce rewards programs. Most U.S. households use credit cards, and the cost of providing them has increased. A decade ago, Congress placed limits on fees banks could charge with debit cards, but it made it harder for low-income households to obtain them and did not help those who kept their cards. This proposed bill would have a similar effect.
The New American: GOP Senators Cosponsor Bill That Will Lead to Carbon Tariffs — and Maybe a Domestic Carbon Tax - The New American
Republican senators have cosponsored the Providing Reliable, Objective, Verifiable Emissions Intensity and Transparency (PROVE IT) Act, which lawmakers say aims to promote US manufacturing by imposing fees on imports from countries that are not reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The legislation requires a two-year study by the Department of Energy and other federal agencies on emissions intensity of goods including aluminum, crude oil, iron, steel, paper, solar cells and wind turbines. Cosponsors of the bill are Democrats and the bill's ultimate goal is to create the foundation for the introduction of carbon tariffs.
While tariffs would have to be studied under the current draft, critics fear the PROVE IT law sets a precedent for a nationwide carbon tax. The proposed tariffs would target the emissions intensity of China, Russia and India. Switzerland passed similar legislation to prevent foreign companies from competing unfairly by encouraging imports that lack regulations on greenhouse gases, while the EU passed laws setting carbon tariffs on products imported from high-emitting countries earlier this month.
Forbes: China’s Sovereign Wealth Fund In Energy Markets Expansion
China Investment Corporation (CIC), managing 31% of world’s total Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF)- managed capital, has embarked upon a global energy asset acquisition spree. The CIC's investment strategy reflects the priorities of President Xi Jinping, transforming the SWF from an economic engine to a foreign policy instrument, blunting shareholder returns with investment promises, foreign aid, and economic pressure. The SWFs dual focus on energy and political priorities has enabled it to secure long-term power purchase agreements with global energy suppliers.
China's SWFs possess two institutional advantages that potentially outcompete their Western counterparts. Firstly, China’s institutionalized long-term mindset prioritizes the political objectives of the communist party over shareholder preferences. Secondly, China’s development and market size cement it as an attractive destination for foreign investment, providing it with sufficient domestic liquidity and allowing SWFs to maintain substantial domestic portfolios that can consistently draw governmental support. China’s SWF strategy has upended the calculus of the traditional conservative value preservation agenda of SWFs and now Western stakeholders must realize that SWFs have fundamentally changed.
