Poll: Mitt Romney's Approval Sinks in Utah, Most Say He Should Not Seek Reelection
Sen. Mitt Romney's approval rating in Utah has dropped to 41%, with 49% disapproving of his job performance, according to a recent poll. Most respondents (51%) said Romney should not seek re-election in 2024, with 55% of Democrats and 54% of Republicans opposing another run. If he does run, Romney will face a challenge from Trent Staggs, Mayor of Riverton, Utah, who criticized Romney's "milquetoast response" to the latest indictment against former President Trump.

National Review: Who Controls the House after the Debt-Limit Deal?
Who Controls the House after the Debt-Limit Deal?
Eleven Republican members broke ranks and voted against a tailored set of instructions dictating which legislation is eligible for formal consideration in the House of Representatives. Dissenters voted against the rule to register their displeasure with the recent debt-limit deal, embarrassing their party’s leaders. McCarthy’s critics have little power in the House, making it unlikely that they will control the agenda despite blocking legislation. The Freedom Caucus has exercised most of its influence through the Republican Conference, but it is the moderates in the chamber who are best positioned to take advantage of a regime in which bipartisan coalitions can advance legislation even when it does not have the enthusiastic support of party leaders.

Happy Democrat Journalists? Reagan-Affiliated CEO Is Out at The Washington Post
Fred Ryan, the CEO and publisher of The Washington Post, has announced his departure. He will lead the nonpartisan Center on Public Civility that is being launched by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute. Ryan cited concerns surrounding the decline in respectful dialogue in politics, social media platforms, and society to explain his new venture. The Post has lost about one-sixth of its 3 million digital subscribers that it had in January 2021 leading to the speculation that Ryan was forced to leave and take a golden parachute because of it.

Scarborough: GOP Base Narrowed Down to 'Insurrectionists, Weirdos, and Freaks'
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough called the Republican Party base “insurrectionists, weirdos, and freaks,” and criticized their lack of action against former President Donald Trump after he “literally inspired a riot” on January 6. Scarborough cited a CBS poll which showed that only 36% of the core Republican Party think stealing nuclear secrets is bad, with 64% of the party having no issue with it. He argued that the party’s continuous narrowing of its base has resulted in it being overrun by insurrectionists and other fringe figures. However, Scarborough maintained that those who care about preserving democracy and a president who doesn’t steal nuclear secrets still make up the majority in the US.

Slick Gavin Newsom Shows That He's Biden With a Brain in Hannity Interview—and a Huge Threat to America
The Sean Hannity-Gavin Newsom interview aired on Monday, revealing Newsom's star power and skills that could propel him to future positions of power, including the presidency. Despite his horrid record of failure in turning California into a cesspool of homelessness and crime, he is glib, slick, and able to point to successes in Big Tech that continue to bring billions to the state economy, making him appear electable to the nation. Unfortunately, he is far more dangerous than compromised Joe Biden because his gaslighting abilities are off the charts, making it important not to underestimate him.

Stop the presses! Ron DeSantis’s perspiration glands work well to cool him off, as nature intended
Governor Ron DeSantis is under fire for appearing sweaty in photos circulating on social media after giving a speech at an event in Oklahoma. Some commentators have ridiculed the Florida governor's drenched shirt, which resulted from the heat and humidity in the crowded room. The media, skeptical of DeSantis' potential for success, have critiqued him for everything, no matter how insignificant, in an attempt to discredit his robust political campaign.

The Epoch Times: UK Should Stop Being Driven by 'White Guilt,' Racial Report Author Says
UK Should Stop Being Driven by 'White Guilt,' Racial Report Author Says
British institutions must stop relying on "white guilt" in addressing racial disparities, according to the chair of the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities, Tony Sewell. He warned against viewing everything through a "race lens," advocating instead for a focus on the complexities of social issues that contribute to inequalities. Sewell criticised calls for "unconscious bias training for teachers," adding that schools should instead focus on supporting struggling families. Sewell led a ten-expert panel that published a report in March 2021 concluding that structural racism was no longer prevalent in the UK.

National Review: Opposing Affirmative Action Is Not about White Solidarity
Opposing Affirmative Action Is Not about White Solidarity
In a New York Times essay, Harvard Law professor Randall Kennedy outlines the history of efforts to advance African Americans and rectify racial disparity. Kennedy argues that past efforts have been criticized as "reverse discrimination" and "preference" and are now being attacked by opponents of affirmative action. However, Kennedy makes the mistake of assuming that opposition to affirmative action is based on racial bias, as there is no evidence to suggest that modern-day opponents of affirmative action harbor animosity toward black success. Kennedy also suggests that the Supreme Court should consider "malign resentment" as one reason why supporters of small government now favor judicially imposed command when it comes to affirmative action.

American Thinker: Making Meghan Markle make sense
Making Meghan Markle make sense
Since Halloween 2016, Meghan Markle has received lots of attention. Early on, there was excitement for this newest British royal family member. Some missteps were just odd, while others showed that the tales of strife swirling around this misfit duchess weren’t just overdramatized misunderstandings. Meghan’s inconsistencies go way beyond a disconnect between expressed ideals and private behavior. ( )

National Review: Against the Pride Flag
Against the Pride Flag
The pride flag has become ubiquitous in the US, with even U.S. government buildings and embassies being bedecked with the flag. The increasingly elaborate jumble of clashing stripes has become a reminder to get with the program and that the program is always changing. The flag, concerned with the recognition of splinter groups, has become increasingly esoteric and obsessed with identity politics, yet it flies everywhere as though it were a quasi-national flag with universal popular assent. The government shouldn't be promoting boutique causes, and if Republicans ever get unified control of government, they should ban this practice.

The Epoch Times: Normalizing the Taliban Would Endanger Global Security
Normalizing the Taliban Would Endanger Global Security
Former CIA officer Douglas London argued for recognition of the Taliban in a recent Foreign Policy article, suggesting that the US must engage with the group to achieve its regional objectives. However, engagement with Islamist factions consistently backfires, while a "moderate" Islamist firewall against "hardline" Islamists is not credible. Recognition of the Taliban would grant access to international passports for terrorist activities. The Taliban has zero support from its leader for dialogue with the US. It cooperates with terrorist factions, such as the Islamic State Khorasan Province, and murders Afghan civilians for its own devices. The US outsourcing its fight against IS-K to the Taliban is against common sense. On Aug.19, 2022, IS-K's highest body created a shadow government for Afghanistan using areas that were previously used by the Taliban. The recent Washington Post report only touches the surface in terms of the resurgent jihadist threat currently metastasizing in Afghanistan.

Forbes: What 8% Inflation Will Do To Your Bonds And Your Bank Stocks
What 8% Inflation Will Do To Your Bonds And Your Bank Stocks
Economist Charles Calomiris warns of a possible scenario in which the government resorts to imposing an "inflation tax" on currency and bank deposits to address the budget deficit, resulting in chronic 8% inflation. Depositors may move their money out of the banking system, shrinking bank assets and making them less profitable. This has happened before during the 1970s and Calomiris believes it will happen again. The third, and likely, solution for the government to finance itself is through the inflation tax, which can be levied without help from Congress. The inflation tax is currently being levied only on currency, but it could be imposed on bank reserves, which would erode bank deposits even more. The problem would be compounded if China's belligerence results in a boost to defense spending. A 40% reserve requirement would be extreme, but "desperate finances call for desperate measures." Savers would do well to avoid long-term Treasury bonds and bank shares.

U.S. Olympian Tori Bowie Died During Childbirth, Autopsy Report Says
American sprinter and Olympic medallist Tori Bowie died from complications of childbirth, according to an autopsy report. The report specified respiratory distress and eclampsia as possible causes of death and estimated Bowie was eight months pregnant and in labour. Bowie's death ('') highlights the disparities in maternal health for Black women in America, who are around three to four times more likely to die in pregnancy and childbirth than white women.

The Epoch Times: This jewel of a bird is so small, its often mistaken for a bee—but it's actually the bee hummingbird
This jewel of a bird is so small, its often mistaken for a bee—but it's actually the bee hummingbird
The bee hummingbird is the smallest bird in the world, only found in the Cuban archipelago. It flaps its wings up to 80 times a second, consumes half of its body weight in food per day, and can visit 1,500 flowers in a day. During courtship, their wing beats increase up to 200 times per second. This hummingbird is highly territorial in its feeding zones, and though they may look cute and cuddly, they are quite feisty.

Inside The Startup Whose Technology Promises An American Energy Transformation
Niron, a Minneapolis-based startup, is developing a process to create permanent magnets without using rare-earth materials from China, which are considered a national security risk and have a limited supply. The company's technology is based on research at the University of Minnesota and has 56 patents with another 21 pending. Niron has raised over $100 million, including $42 million from the federal government, to scale up production. The pilot plant currently produces 100 kilos of magnets and the company plans to open a full-scale production facility within the next three or four years. Permanent magnets made with rare-earth materials are used in everything from electric vehicles to wind turbines to consumer electronics.
