The Epoch Times: 'Hamilton' Star Throws Insult at Florida's DeSantis During Tony Awards
'Hamilton' Star Throws Insult at Florida's DeSantis During Tony Awards
Hamilton star Denee Benton caused a stir when she referred to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as a Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard during her presentation at Sunday’s Tony Awards. Benton was bestowing the Excellence in Theatre Education Award from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and made the jab as she referred to DeSantis’ support of HB 1557. The bill reinforces parents’ right to make decisions regarding their child’s upbringing in a public school setting, but some have criticised the legislation for its lack of discussion of gender identity. Supporters of the LGBTQ+ community are concerned this will prevent any discussion of families with same-sex parents.

Testimony Reveals Blinken May Have Had More Involvement in Hunter Biden Laptop Letter
Antony Blinken's role in drafting a statement undermining the New York Post's story on Hunter Biden was revealed in congressional testimony from two former intelligence officials. One signatory, James Clapper, stated that Blinken asked former CIA Acting Director Mike Morell to craft the statement, contradicting Blinken's previous denial of involvement. Morell testified that Blinken's call "triggered" the statement, which was published two weeks before the 2020 election and discredited the Post's report with accusations of Russian interference. The statement's signatories use their official titles to write that the Post story had "all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation."

National Review: The Corner: DeSantis’s Battles Make Sense for the Southern Primaries
The Corner: DeSantis’s Battles Make Sense for the Southern Primaries
Ron DeSantis aims to appoint Supreme Court justices better than Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Brett Kavanaugh, without criticism of how Donald Trump kept classified information at Mar-a-Lago. DeSantis tries to attract Republican primary voters with his promises to choose candidates that are closer to the conservative-justice duo’s views. Meanwhile, he pledges to change the name of Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg, showing his adherence to custom, convention, and continuity and reflecting his sensitivity towards American military recruits.

DeSantis fights for his nomination, concentrating on a lane that will attract voters he needs early in the race. He is not justifying Trump's actions regarding classified information, claiming that the founding fathers predicted the weaponization that occurred with the agents, particularly the Justice and FBI, without criticizing Trump. He will almost certainly make his case in the weeks or months to come.

Fox News: Gaetz grills DOJ over Trump prosecutor's donations to Biden, alleged misconduct
Gaetz grills DOJ over Trump prosecutor's donations to Biden, alleged misconduct
Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz demands U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland's office release names of all staff members investigating former President Donald Trump. Gaetz sent a letter to the Attorney General stating that one of the prosecutors investigating Trump, who allegedly mishandled classified documents, has previously contributed to President Biden's campaign and was accused of misconduct in 2009. Gaetz claims that Smith's past work and present office structure are of public concern and is demanding all staff lists by 7 July. He warns that all staff members vetted by Smith's office be made public or he will defund it through congressional action.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a republican from Georgia, announced that she plans to introduce legislation to remove funding for Smith's office and his Trump investigation as the president is scheduled to appear before court on 37 indictments stemming from Smith's investigation. Gaetz had previously shown support for Greene's proposal. Judicial Watch has also filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the DOJ to obtain records disclosing the names of staffers working on Trump's case. The Trump campaign is highlighting past reports about Smith and his staffers who have so far been revealed to be working on the case to damage their credibility. Meanwhile, Jay Bratt, who is working on the Trump case in Smith's office, was recently accused of misconduct and Gilbert voluntarily stepped down from her post in the U.S. Attorney's Office in 2009 to avoid penalties for allegedly eavesdropping.

Similarly, co-host Sara Haines falsely claimed that Trump appointed a special counsel to investigate President Biden's mishandling of classified documents.

Fox News: Josh Hawley presses Biden energy secretary over false testimony about stock purchases
Josh Hawley presses Biden energy secretary over false testimony about stock purchases
Senator Josh Hawley is investigating Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm after she admitted she misled him about owning individual stocks during a Senate hearing on April 20. In response, Hawley has criticized Granholm for her "misleading comments" and demanded an explanation. Granholm sent a letter to committee leadership on May 21, acknowledging that she owned individual stocks despite testifying to the contrary. Hawley demanded her answers to a series of questions about her stock transactions by June 20.

Granholm discovered that she still owned shares in six companies and failed to disclose that information to the committee until seven weeks later. She also found out that her husband owned shares in Ford Motor Company, which they divested from in May 2023. Republicans have demanded that Biden's energy secretary retract 'unserious' comments praising China and comply with conflict-of-interest laws. The Department of Energy insisted that Granholm moved quickly to divest non-conflicting assets and to lead a DOE that puts the interests of the American people above all else.

The Blaze: Horowitz: The forgotten leverage House Republicans can wield to shut down Biden’s weaponized government
Horowitz: The forgotten leverage House Republicans can wield to shut down Biden’s weaponized government
Reauthorization bills for thousands of government programs expire every few years and are subject to reform. Republicans hold leverage over the Democrats to fight odious policies if they refuse to reauthorize the programs absent of reforms. Republicans can demand priorities to pass a budget, and Congress can refuse to appropriate funding without proper committee authorizing them. By ending this practice, House conservatives have leverage to force reforms, as many critical parts of government will sunset, giving House conservatives leverage to force reforms. With the reauthorization expiration rolling into the same Sept. 30 deadline as the overall appropriations bill at the end of the fiscal year, this provides Republicans with another layer of leverage.

In a potential matchup with President Joe Biden, one poll has Trump tied with Biden after starting the month behind him. A Morning Consult poll found that 59% of potential GOP primary voters would vote for Trump if the primary was held today, with just 19% supporting his closest Republican primary competitor, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, as their first choice.

Washington Post under fire for ‘misleading’ headline on Target bomb threats: ‘They buried the truth'
Target stores received bomb threats accusing the retailer of betraying the LGBTQ community amid backlash over Pride merchandise. The Washington Post was criticized for burying this critical information in its report while the headline led readers to believe that conservatives who objected to Pride displays sent the threats. However, the Post's report stated that some threats came from people who accused Target of betrayal, and a threatening email was sent to news outlets in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York, citing South Burlington Police Chief Shawn Burke.

Montoya and another transgender activist were shown topless in a TikTok video on the South Lawn with the White House in view behind them. While Washington, D.C., laws allow for toplessness, the White House is federal land where those laws do not apply. The White House condemned Montoya's actions, saying those involved would not be invited back to future events.

San Diego activist Kate Monroe proposes "sanctioned camping" to address the city's homelessness crisis, which she attributes to "politics and policies." Monroe believes the solution is to provide the homeless with a safe, legitimate place to camp, rather than to ban homeless encampments or spend millions on hotels. She suggests that the military could assist in building this infrastructure in a matter of days at a fraction of the cost.

Starbucks Caves, PRIDE Decor Booted From Stores Halfway Through PRIDE Month: Report
Starbucks has reportedly toned down LGBTQ-themed decor in its stores across the US during PRIDE month, with two weeks left to go. The move follows accusations of a backlash and boycotts following Target’s promotion of PRIDE displays, including “coming out” greeting cards and “tuck-friendly” and “binding” swimwear for trans-identifying children. Workers had begun to share the news that Starbucks had banned PRIDE decorations in its US stores on social media. A union campaigners’ group, Starbucks Workers United, suggests the company was “taking a cue from Target” to avoid a similar drop in market capitalisation, since “corporate and district management are taking down the pride decorations that have become an annual tradition in stores”.

Montoya doubled down, stating that her actions were legal expressions of joy, and that conservatives were using the incident to further stigmatize the trans community.

Mom who lost custody of daughter sounds alarm on bill requiring parents to 'affirm' child's gender identity
A mother who lost custody of her daughter criticized a California bill that may hold parents accountable for child abuse if they refuse to "affirm" their child's gender identity, claiming that a difference in belief is not abuse. The bill adds to the state's definition of parental responsibility and would require parents to affirm their child's gender identity to be judged fit for providing for the child's "health, safety, and welfare" in a court of law. Parents who do not affirm their child's gender identity may be found liable for child abuse and have their child removed from their home if the bill becomes law.

Although only four palliative care hospices in Quebec do not offer MAiD, there is opposition from Living with Dignity and the Alliance of Palliative Care Homes of Quebec, who cite violations of conscience rights and argue that euthanasia is a form of abandonment. Advocates and experts warn of potential abuses. Quebec's annual tally for MAiD-related deaths is expected to increase from the current 7 percent of all deaths.

UN secures insurance for high-stakes transfer of crude oil from dilapidated tanker in Yemen
The United Nations Development Program has obtained insurance coverage for a ship-to-ship transfer of 1.1 million barrels of crude oil from a deteriorating tanker near the conflict-stricken Yemeni coast. The tanker is at risk of rupture or explosion and holds oil that could cause a major environmental disaster. The transfer is part of an ongoing U.N.-led initiative spanning several years to remove the cargo from the FSO Safer.

The first phase of the salvage operation would see oil being transferred from the Safer to the Nautica, a super tanker the U.N. purchased for the operation. In the second phase, the U.N. will facilitate the installation of a replacement storage vessel, according to a deal the U.N. struck with the Houthi rebels, who control the area where the tanker is moored. Yemen, the Arab world's most impoverished country, has been engulfed by civil war since 2014.

China's recent economic struggles, including easing monetary policies and cuts to interest rates, suggest that Thérèse Shaheen's cautious optimism that China's historic economic strength is fading may be justified. However, economists note that these measures may not be enough to support weak demand in some sectors and that China also faces a significant debt problem. While it remains important for the United States to be prepared for a possible conflict with China, these developments suggest that China's strength may be overstated.

Two-Thirds Of Business Owners Concerned Biden Economy May Force Them To Close, Poll Finds
Small business owners are concerned about economic conditions forcing them to close, with 64% expressing worry in a Job Creators Network Foundation poll. Top concerns are banking instability and inflation, which has hit a two-year peak. The foundation proposes several reforms, including making former President Donald Trump’s tax cuts permanent and cutting government spending.

Small business owners are also worried about rising interest rates and new banking regulations, according to the poll. Visitors to Signature Bank, Silicon Valley Bank and First Republic Bank in the US were rattled when the banks failed earlier this year. The string of bank failures is the worst since the Great Recession in 2008, with the assets worth more than those at previously failed banks, when adjusted for inflation. Additionally, inflation has risen to 4%, per Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

India probes bribery allegations that a regulator helped switch test samples of possibly toxic cough syrup
An Indian pharmaceutical regulator is under investigation for allegedly switching samples of cough syrups linked to the deaths of children in Gambia in exchange for a bribe, according to documents reviewed by Reuters. Accused of taking a bribe of $605,419, the state's drug controller, Manmohan Taneja, is being investigated by India’s Anti-Corruption Bureau. Indian authorities tested the syrups last year after the World Health Organization linked them to the deaths of at least 70 children.

The bribery allegation was one of many claims of corruption made against Taneja by lawyer Yashpal in a letter to the Anti-Corruption Bureau, who has accused him of taking bribes to approve products since 2021. While the WHO has called for action following the cough syrup deaths, Taneja has declined to comment and Maiden Pharmaceuticals, who allegedly paid the bribe, have not responded to requests for comment. India’s federal drug regulator, as well as its factory inspectors, did not detect any toxins in the syrups, though batches may have been incorrectly labelled.

Health alert for women: Early use of birth control pills linked to higher rates of depression, study finds
A new study from Sweden's Uppsala University suggests that women who take a certain type of prescription birth control pill as teens may be at a much higher risk of depression than those who do not use birth control pills. The study found that women who start taking the birth control as teens are at a 130% increased rate of occurrence, compared to non-users, while the corresponding increase among adult users was 92%. The study looked at over 250,000 women from the United Kingdom from birth until menopause, examining the possible link between the use of contraceptive pills and a later diagnosis of depression.

Although most women tolerate external hormones well, some women may have an increased risk of depression after starting to use contraceptive pills. The link between the use of the combined contraceptive pill, which contains both estrogen and progestin, and symptoms of depression was found in both those who started using the pills as teens as well as those who began using the pills as adults. The incidence of depression declined after the first two years of contraception use in older women, the study found. Women's healthcare professionals should be more aware of possible links between different systems of the body, such as depression and the use of contraceptive pills.

Vitamin C, omega-3 fatty acids, SAMe, curcumin and EGCG from green tea can all help reduce the risk of developing gallstones, but consult an integrative physician before adding supplements to your diet. A Mediterranean diet, including plenty of fiber-rich fresh fruit and vegetables and healthy amounts of monounsaturated fats, can also help. Exercise can lower the risk by up to 25%.

The Blaze: Whitlock: Nikola Jokic’s indifference to NBA greatness speaks to the pitfall of globalism
Whitlock: Nikola Jokic’s indifference to NBA greatness speaks to the pitfall of globalism
Nikola Jokic's subdued celebration of his NBA title highlights the negative impact of globalism on American basketball. The league's pursuit of global dominance via non-US-born stars has led to a lack of passion and reverence for the game's history among foreign players. Jokic's indifference to back-to-back MVP trophies is healthy for him but bad for the NBA. The lack of loyalty, fidelity, and allegiance in professional sports removes important values and diminishes their value. Being a global citizen is overrated.

The Deep State Loves Surveillance Capitalism: Feds Buy Up Our Personal Data from Silicon Valley
The U.S. Government is purchasing vast personal data generated by Americans using their vehicles, smartphones, and web browsers, according to a new report. The data gathered is replicating the results of intrusive surveillance techniques, such as wiretapping and physical espionage. The report highlights the significant threat to privacy and the need for improved acquisition-related policies, practices, and safeguards.

Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines, recently ordered a report on the exploitation of commercially available information (CAI) to determine how the intelligence community utilises the data. The study confirmed that CAI includes almost all the types of information of a similar level of sensitivity historically obtained through intelligence techniques. The report alerts readers to how damning particular data can be, risking individuals' reputation, emotional wellbeing, or physical safety.
