Biden Admin Official Quietly Voices Concern Over Another Illegal Immigration Surge
Biden administration officials anonymously express concern over potential surge in illegal border crossings, despite a reported decline since end of Title 42. Processing centers in Guatemala are overwhelmed, and officials are unsure of future measures. Over 80,000 foreign nationals have used the CBP One app to enter the U.S. in the past four months, and upwards of 1.5 million illegal immigrant gotaways have been recorded since Biden took office. CBS News poll shows 63% of Americans disapprove of Biden's handling of the border.

It makes little difference whether Trump declassified documents at heart of federal indictment: legal scholars
Legal experts say that former President Trump’s claims of declassifying documents are nothing more than a red herring. McCarthy, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, and Painter, a law professor, agree that the President's indictment is not a result of classifying or declassifying documents; it is a matter of proper retention or disclosure of sensitive defense information. Furthermore, the grand jury subpoena required Trump to surrender all documents physically bearing classification markings, regardless of their classification. This has raised questions about Biden's handling of classified documents, though the matter remains unresolved.

Jill Biden speaks at an Upper East Side gathering of Democrat supporters, expressing her shock at the 80% of Republicans who still support Donald Trump despite his federal indictment. She warns that the 2024 presidential election presents a choice between steady leadership of Joe Biden versus the chaos and corruption of MAGA Republicans. However, the first lady is criticized for ignoring Democratic hypocrisy and downplaying the Biden Family Business, ongoing crisis at the Southern Border, and general dissatisfaction with Joe Biden's leadership.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will announce an interim CEO, after Ryan stays on until 1 August. Ryan will become head of the nonpartisan Center on Public Civility at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation.

Trump claims he is innocent and being targeted by President Biden’s administration. The arraignment will take place in Miami, Florida, and police are preparing for up to 50,000 people to arrive. A coalition of news organizations requested that the court release an audio recording of the proceedings immediately after the arraignment, but the judge declined, stating that he was not convinced it meets the definition of a special proceeding.

She gifted her graduation to Palestinians "who have lost their life" due to the "oppressive apartheid state of Israel killing and torturing Palestinians." Critics called out the school for supporting anti-Semitic rhetoric and demanded its public funding be reviewed. Abulaban later defended her remarks, stating that she was shedding light on the atrocities committed by Israel. El Camino Community College did not immediately respond to the criticism.

Closing Hotels and Bankrupt Malls: San Francisco Is on the Precipice of the Abyss
San Francisco has rapidly declined, with rising costs of living, violent crime, looting, and homelessness, making the city unlivable for all. Hotel occupancy rates are down, and growing numbers of hoteliers are signaling bankruptcy or surrender. Westfield Mall is going bankrupt, and its largest department store, Nordstrom's, is closing its two downtown locations. The mall's pullout piles on economic turmoil that is battering the area around Powell Street, with many companies leaving due to low foot traffic and rampant criminal activity. The city's status as one of America's great cities is gone, placing San Francisco among the likes of St. Louis, Cleveland, and Buffalo.

Fox News: US lawmakers urge Biden to punish South Africa for supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine
US lawmakers urge Biden to punish South Africa for supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine
Lawmakers are pushing for the Biden Administration to relocate the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) meeting out of South Africa due to allegations of the country's aid for Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine. The lawmakers claim that this aid calls for the reconsideration of South Africa's eligibility to receive trade benefits from the U.S. under the AGOA. South Africa's Foreign Ministry noted the letter, but it still enjoys the support of the U.S. government for its hosting of the meeting. The AGOA is legislation that allows Sub-Saharan African countries duty-free access to the U.S. market for their exports provided they meet certain conditions, and South Africa is one of the biggest beneficiaries.

The South African government, despite its claim of neutrality in the war, has been accused of favoring Russia with various actions, which include deepening its military relationship with Russia and covertly supplying it with weapons in the past year. However, some view talk of formal sanctions for South Africa over Russia as "reckless" and "purely alarmist." The lawmakers' letter has indicated that Washington's patience with South Africa over its Russia relationship is "fast diminishing," although the Biden Administration has not spoken of any sanctions or punishment against South Africa yet. The AGOA is mentioned as a possible means of punishment against the country, but any trade restriction would hit its stagnant economy, massive unemployment, and energy crisis.

Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant conducts tests to release treated radioactive wastewater into sea
Japan has started testing the newly constructed facilities for discharging treated radioactive wastewater into the sea, despite protests from locals and neighboring countries. The plan to gradually release diluted wastewater with large amounts of seawater to levels Japan says are safe has faced fierce opposition from local fishing communities, South Korea, China, and Pacific Island nations. The government hopes that the treated but still slightly radioactive water, which is currently stored in about a thousand tanks at the plant, will be removed to prevent accidental leaks in case of an earthquake and to make room for the plant’s decommissioning.

San Francisco's Problems Just Got a Whole Lot Worse, Downtown Mall Operator Defaults, Cites Worsening Conditions in the City
Westfield and Brookfield Properties have ceased payment on a $558m loan for San Francisco's largest shopping centre at 865 Market Street, and said it will transfer management of the mall to an unsure lender to oversee its future. The mall has many lenders with its commercial mortgage-backed securities, and will likely continue operations during a foreclosure. Nordstrom has recently decided not to renew its lease either, with only a 55% occupancy rate in the mall following its departure. The decline in sales leading to the closures is due to decreased foot traffic, with Westfield citing "unsafe conditions" and "rampant criminal activity" in the area.

Brooks stated that his bar would sell every brand of beer to cater to patrons' preferences and that the decision to stock the beer ultimately lies with customers. The beer brand has recently been embroiled in backlash due to their partnership with activist Dylan Mulvaney.

He said Bud Light drinkers were always a varied bunch who often disagreed politically, but the brand partnering with Mulvaney changed that.

Fox News: German curator's mission is to return 111 heirlooms to families of Holocaust victims by the end of the year
German curator's mission is to return 111 heirlooms to families of Holocaust victims by the end of the year
Matthias Weniger is a curator at the Bavarian National Museum trying to return 111 silver objects stolen by the Nazis from Jews during the Third Reich in 1939. These objects are often the only tangible remains of their existence before WWII. Thousands of these pieces were melted into around 135 tons of silver and used to help Germany’s war efforts, but several museums ended up with hundreds of silver pieces consisting of candlesticks, Kiddush cups, silver spoons, and cake servers. Many were returned in the 1950s and 1960s if Holocaust survivors actively tried to retrieve their stolen possessions, but many had been murdered or fled. Weniger has so far managed to return about 50 objects to family members and is convinced he can return the remaining objects by the end of this year, using thorough detective work, dedication, and knowledge of history.

Even though two-thirds of the last owners did not survive the Holocaust, Weniger has managed to return silver objects to descendants and relatives of the original owners by searching for the identity of the original owners. The little yellowed paper stickers on some objects have helped this work, testament to Germans' obsessive bureaucracy even in times of dictatorship and war. The numbers on the stickers are also listed on more than 80-year-old documents. He then starts looking up Jewish obituary and genealogy databases, in hopes that direct descendants or more distant relatives may have posted their names online. The museum has already or is in the process of restituting silver pieces to the US, Israel, France, the UK, Australia, and Mexico, with Weniger personally delivering the pieces to the families, often meeting with the families in person.

Biden administration urges states to slow removal of Medicaid recipients as COVID-era coverage ends
The Biden administration has urged states to slow down their removal of people from Medicaid rolls due to concerns that many lower-income people are losing their healthcare coverage for procedural reasons, such as failing to return forms. During the pandemic, the Medicaid rolls had swelled as states were restricted from ending coverage, but this ended in April and now states must reassess eligibility. In some states, half of those evaluated in April or May have lost their coverage, primarily for procedural reasons. The Health and Human Services Secretary has encouraged states to delay procedural terminations by a month while conducting additional outreach to Medicaid recipients.

Over 900,000 cancer survivors in the country may find it challenging to access loans or insurance due to their medical history. The proposed law will enable recovering patients not to share their previous condition with financial institutions or adoption authorities, provided that 5-10 years have passed since their medical treatment. The law is expected to be passed soon.

Elizabeth Holmes, Who Lived At $135 Million Estate, Says She Can’t Afford $250 A Month Restitution After Release
Convicted fraudster Elizabeth Holmes claims she cannot afford to make $250 monthly restitution payments after her release from prison. Holmes, the founder of failed blood-testing company Theranos, is currently serving an 11-year sentence in Texas and owes more than $450 million in restitution. Prosecutors proposed the payment plan, but Holmes' attorneys argue it was a clerical error. It is unlikely that victims will receive their full restitution.

Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, traveled the country in an RV and lived on a $13,000-per-month estate during her trial and appeal. Evans, an heir to the Evans Hotel Group, has an estimated net worth of $10 million. While Holmes claims limited financial resources, the judge considered "substantial evidence" of her financial situation during sentencing.
