The Epoch Times: TikTok Trafficking Ad Ban Leads to Drop in Albanians Arriving on Small Boats: Reports
TikTok's proactive policy change has reportedly led to a drop in illegal Albanian immigrants arriving in small boats, with traffickers previously using the video platform to advertise crossings to the UK. Since March, the social media site has blocked posts from people smugglers advertising illegal crossings. The traffickers were behind thousands of ads for "cash-for-crossing" services to Britain, according to The Times of London, targeting mostly young Albanians. The Home Office previously blamed the ads for the surge in Albanians crossing the Channel by small boats. The UK saw its highest number of illegal immigrants to cross the Channel in a single day this year on Sunday, with 616 people detected. However, a spokesperson from Downing Street welcomed the positive impact TikTok is having in combatting human exploitation.
TikTok's head of trust and safety, Kevin Morgan, stated that "proactive steps" are being taken to combat human exploitation, including seizing greater cooperation with UK authorities. The social media site has launched a new "search intervention" feature, directing users to expert resources from the London-based STOP THE TRAFFIK group to dispel the false promises of criminals. TikTok has long had a zero-tolerance approach to human smuggling and trafficking and removes content found to violate its community guidelines on human exploitation, as well as permanently banning offending accounts. The current number of crossings in 2023 stands at a provisional total of 8,313, compared with around 10,000 at the same point last year. Despite a report showing Albanian immigrants to the UK are unlikely to be at risk in their own country or require asylum, more needs to be done to support the Albanian victims of people smuggling, according to the Home Affairs Select Committee.

Newsbusters: PBS 'Washington Week' Insists Biden's 'Independent' of Justice Dept. on Trump Matters
PBS Washington Week guest host Laura Barron-Lopez discussed the "damning" Trump indictment by Biden's Justice Department, repeating White House spin that the investigation is independent. CBS correspondent Ed O'Keefe added that Biden has avoided commenting on the Justice Department investigation, and the White House has kept Justice Department officials out of its doors. Journalists' biased coverage affects White House behavior. Republicans pay for this PBS show, brought by Consumer Cellular.
Fox News: Swedish government approves extradition of Turkish citizen amid NATO membership dispute
Sweden has decided to extradite a Turkish citizen residing in Sweden, who was convicted of drug-related offenses in Turkey in 2013. The move is seen as a blow to Turkey, which has been causing delays in Sweden's attempts to join NATO. There are speculations that the real reason behind the extradition is the man's political affiliations, as he is a member of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party and was also accused of posting manipulated images of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on social media.
The Right Scoop: CNN’s top legal analyst blasts DOJ for “preposterous” amount of time investigating Hunter Biden
Legal analyst Elie Honig criticizes the DOJ's five-year investigation into Hunter Biden's alleged tax issue and violation of an obscure gun law. Honig argues that this investigation should not take more than five weeks and suggests that President Biden is protecting his son from the DOJ.
Fox News: Nearly half the country supports Trump federal indictment, but believes politics were involved: poll
Former President Trump was indicted on 37 federal counts related to the unlawful retention of classified documents. A recent ABC/Ipsos poll found that 48% of Americans believe he was rightfully charged, while 35% do not. Of those polled, 47% believe the charges are politically motivated. The survey also revealed that 46% of Americans think Trump should halt his 2024 campaign for president given the charges. He is set to be arraigned in federal court on Tuesday in Miami.

The Epoch Times: Downing Street Defends Parliamentary Committee Against Attacks From Boris Johnson Allies
Boris Johnson has quit as an MP following accusations that the House of Commons Privileges Committee is attempting to force him out of Parliament and running a “kangaroo court.” The committee, led by Labour MP Harriet Harman, is investigating whether Johnson misled Parliament over Downing Street’s adherence to COVID-19 lockdown rules during the pandemic. The Conservative party has expressed confidence in the committee’s work with Rishi Sunak’s official spokesman stating: “The government will in no way traduce or criticise the work of the committee who are doing exactly what Parliament has asked them to do.” The committee includes Tory Brexiteer Sir Bernard Jenkin, and has been labelled as “clearly partisan” and “biased” by Johnson’s close ally and Conservative MP, Jacob Rees-Mogg.
Washington Free Beacon: CNN Used Ties With Andrew Cuomo To Benefit Parent Company
CNN used a former executive's ties with disgraced ex-governor Andrew Cuomo to benefit parent company WarnerMedia in September 2020. Text messages revealed that Allison Gollust, who previously worked in Cuomo's office, urged the governor to speak with Ann Sarnoff, the studio chief of WarnerMedia, who lobbied him to open movie theaters during the pandemic. The network's relationship with the former governor has long been criticized, and Chris Cuomo's involvement in advising his brother on sexual harassment allegations led to his termination from CNN.
The New American: Giuliani Drops Bombshells of Evidence that the FBI and DOJ Covered Up For Biden - The New American

Fox News: GOP walkout in Oregon threatens record $10.2 billion in school funding
Oregon's Republican-led boycott of Democratic-led bills has slowed down the Legislature for six weeks, endangering funding for literacy programs, special education teachers and schools, which account for $10.2 billion of the budget. One bill, which expands access to abortion and gender-affirming health care, is the main catalyst for the Republican action. The Senate hasn't conducted business since May 3, and the legislative session ends on June 25. If passed, these bills will help address pandemic learning losses and tackle the education workforce crisis .
Lawmakers from Oregon are facing a potential cancellation of education funding due to a boycott that has slowed down the Legislative process for almost six weeks. The Republican-led Senate has been pressed to take action on bills related to Medicaid coverage for low-income adults and funding for reproductive health care. This boycott could pose a significant threat to education budget construction, putting funding for schools, literacy programs, and special education teachers at risk. This puts Oregon House members and Governor Tina Kotek in a tight spot to call a special session to address the educational needs of the state.
The Blaze: 'Brazen': Energy secretary accused of lying to Congress about stock investments — and her own letter says it all
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm is under fire for allegedly lying to Congress after it was discovered she owned individual stocks in Ford Motor Corporation, a company that works closely with the Energy Department on electric vehicles and new energy technologies. During an April 20 Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing, Granholm had denied owning individual stocks, but later sent the committee a letter on May 28 contradicting her previous testimony. Republicans have criticized Granholm's actions, with Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) accusing her of having "lied" and Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) calling it a "troubling pattern."

National Review: The Corner: Florida Judge Reckons Wrong on Sex-Change Surgery in Iran
US District Judge Robert Hinkle claimed that transition treatments are not available in Iran, but this statement is untrue. Iran offers gender-affirming care, and it is one of the only Middle Eastern countries that does. However, Iran's encouragement of sex-change surgery is due to its intolerance of homosexuality, which is a capital offence. Gay Iranians face pressure to change their sex regardless of whether they want to. Patients must receive counselling to ensure they have gender dysphoria before going under the knife, but this process is often rushed and standards are not properly observed.
The Federalist Papers: Megan Fox Threatens to Hold Sick Ritual at Man's Home After He Accuses Her of Child Abuse
Actress Megan Fox is facing allegations of child abuse after a photo was posted of her three sons in feminine clothing. Conservative activist Robby Starbuck claimed [1] Fox’s children had been forced to wear the clothes against their will and had witnessed one of them having a “full on breakdown.” Fox responded by threatening Starbuck with a “carcass-eating ritual” outside his home. The photo showed one of the boys wearing a shirt for girls. In a 2019 appearance on CBS’s “The Talk,” Fox acknowledged that her eldest son Noah wore dresses but denied [2] that it was child abuse.
Fox News: Wisconsin county considers sanctuary status for transgender kids
Dane County, Wisconsin may become a sanctuary county for transgender and nonbinary individuals, including minors. The resolution up for a vote this week would "declare Dane County a sanctuary for trans and nonbinary individuals" and declare access to gender-affirming care a "fundamental right." If the state of Wisconsin imposes legal penalties on those seeking or providing such care, the county would make the enforcement of these penalties its lowest priority. The resolution calls on school boards in the county to follow suit and has sponsorship from 20 of the county's 37 supervisors.

Fox News: Senate launches probe into merger of Saudi-backed LIV Golf, PGA Tour
The Senate is investigating the partnership between LIV Golf and PGA Tour due to concerns about Saudi Arabia's involvement and potential conflicts of interest. The Public Investment Fund, which owns LIV Golf, is a sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia controlled by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Critics view the partnership as an attempt to "sportswash" Saudi Arabia's reputation for human rights abuses. Sen. Richard Blumenthal has demanded records of communications and disputes related to the partnership, questioning the reasons behind the sudden merger.
Fox News: Netherlands and Canada lodge joint UN complaint against Syria over alleged widespread torture of civilians
Netherlands and Canada have submitted a joint complaint to the United Nations alleging numerous breaches of international law by Syria, seeking provisional measures from the International Court of Justice. The complaint cites Syria’s “countless violations of international law” and alleges a widespread torture program against those opposed to the government during the country’s long-running civil war. National courts have convicted numerous officials from the regime within their respective jurisdictions using the principle of universal jurisdiction.
The Netherlands and Canada say there is ample evidence that the regime has engaged in systemic gross human rights violations against its own people since 2011. Despite the lack of success in international endeavors, several national courts have managed to convict numerous officials from the regime within their respective jurisdictions. The complaint argues that the process of mediation before bringing the dispute to The Hague-based court has failed. It is only the second time a complaint alleging violations of the 1984 convention has been brought at The Hague-based court.
Washington Free Beacon: Senators Propose Barring FAA From Using Chinese Drones
Senators Blackburn and Warner introduced legislation to bar the FAA from buying or using Chinese-made drones and from providing federal funds to foreign drone companies from China and other countries. The bill would also require the FAA to replace any Chinese-built drone with a U.S.- or allied-built drone within one year. The FAA currently operates more than a dozen drones produced in China. Other countries included in the prohibitions are Russia, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, and Cuba. The bill aims to curb the importation of drones produced by countries that are hostile toward the U.S. and to encourage manufacturing at home.
The Epoch Times: Foreign Correspondents' Club Fears Violating National Security Law, Says All Future Press Statements Require Legal Review Before Release
Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents’ Club (FCC) will review future public statements with lawyers to ensure they do not violate the national security law. Any statement made by the FCC must be approved by 75% of board members before being issued publicly. A new system does not mean a decrease in statements made. The FCC issued a statement on May 29 asking the government to explain why Hong Kong Free Press was unable to cover the National Security Education Day event. In April, the Human Rights Press Awards were scrapped amid pressure of the national security law. The FCC has since held several events related to China's economic development, inviting pro-CCP guests, which has drawn dissatisfaction from journalists and former FCC executive committee members.
The New American: China Claims Most Asian States Oppose NATO Expansion to Indo-Pacific - The New American
China claims that most Asian countries are against NATO’s eastward expansion and creation of military replicas in the Indo-Pacific region, as such actions provoke bloc conflicts. Japan is in NATO’s sights as a potential partner in the Indo-Pacific, but Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu warned against establishing NATO-like alliances in the region, which he said would have significant regional ramifications. Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama stated that Japan’s current approach towards Russia is wrong, as Japan is supporting Ukraine and looking at Russia as an enemy in obedience to the United States.
Forbes: U.S. Is Rejoining UNESCO—Here’s Why Washington Is Ending Its Decade-Long Dispute With The UN Cultural Agency
The US plans to rejoin the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) after former President Donald Trump withdrew in 2018, signing a letter of intent to return and begin repaying over $600m in missed dues. Part of the decision to rejoin has been motivated by concerns over China's growing influence in the organisation; Undersecretary of State for Management John Bass said in March that the United States "can’t afford to be absent any longer." US officials have also expressed a belief that UNESCO's debates have become less politicised. A vote by the organisation's 193 member states to formalise the decision to rejoin is expected in July.

National Review: The Corner: Dog Bites Man: Windfall Tax Backfires
Britain’s Conservative Party introduced a windfall tax on oil and gas companies to fund subsidies to support households affected by the cost of living crisis. This caused investment in the North Sea to plummet, with Total, Chevron and Shell pulling out, and Harbour shedding hundreds of jobs. The energy profits levy raised the headline rate to 75%, and made it unattractive for companies to spend money in the North Sea. The government has now announced measures to suspend the windfall tax on oil profits to boost investment in the North Sea, but much of the damage has already been done, with Apache halting drilling and shutting down its Forties oilfield, which will lead to job losses in Aberdeen.
National Review: The Corner: Edmund Burke and the Death Tax
Inheritance tax is a hot topic among Democrats in Congress. However, Daniel Pitt argues against the notion that those who inherit have done nothing to earn it. Inheritance is foundational to keeping different generations connected and promoting stability across time. Leaving an inheritance is morally righteous and invaluable to the continuation of civilization, which is why the death tax is immoral and should be repealed.
Washington Free Beacon: NYC's Huge Wage Hike for App Delivery Workers Could Cost Customers $5 Per Meal
Starting July 12, New York City will require food delivery companies like DoorDash and UberEats to pay delivery workers $17.96 per hour, more than double the current estimated rate of $7.09. The wage hike could increase the cost of meal deliveries by over $5. Labor groups are pushing for similar wage hikes across the country, but some business owners say it will lead to job cuts and higher prices.
The Epoch Times: You’ll Probably Live Longer Than You Think
A recent TIAA Institute study found that women outperformed men in "longevity literacy" — understanding how long you're likely to live. Overestimating or underestimating longevity can lead to problems with retirement planning. Understanding and addressing the risk of outliving your savings is important, but more than half of Americans don't understand how long people tend to live in retirement. The most powerful way to mitigate longevity risk is to delay claiming Social Security, but only about 10 percent of applicants wait until age 70. Retirees who answered the longevity question correctly were much more likely to report that making ends meet was "very easy" and to be "very confident".
Forbes: U.S. Economy Will Underperform Until We Get Regulation Under Control
Congress passed a debt ceiling package, which includes minor regulatory changes to make the permitting process easier. However, these changes are unlikely to have much impact on the economy's underperformance. Since his inauguration, Biden's administration has levied 590 final rules with $375 billion in compliance costs, smothering the economy with regulation.
The Federal Trade Commission, along with other agencies, is using rulemaking to manipulate the economy to achieve Biden's policy goals. While each rule may be a well-intended effort to help the environment, the costs they impose on consumers and the economy are substantial. Comprehensive regulatory reform from Congress may be on hold, but state officials can still help the economy by reducing their own regulatory burdens. If the economy enters a recession, regulatory reform could be an alternative way to boost it without further damaging the country's finances.

PJ Media: Unholy Communion: Chatbot Leads Services at German Church
St. Paul's Church in Germany recently held a service where prayers, songs, and the sermon were generated by AI. Attendees were led by an AI-generated image with a flat tone devoid of emotion. According to the creator, 98% of the service had been created by AI. Lack of emotion and body language made it difficult for some to concentrate. While AI can recite God's Word, it cannot interpret or apply it, nor can it minister to people in the dark places. This curiosity could become a monster and an effective tool for diluting the relationship to God that people seek through worship.

The Epoch Times: Will Arts in America Go the Way of Bud Light?

Venues must respect the desires of audiences and donors for a more elevated experience of art or risk being left behind by artificial intelligence and other forms of entertainment.

The Federalist: America Should Join UK In Banning Chemical Castration For Kids
The UK's National Health Service will stop distributing castration drugs to children without clinical trials or exceptions due to concerns over their safety and effectiveness. The drugs were marketed to pause puberty in children with gender dysphoria, but evidence shows they cause irreversible harm, including permanent infertility and sexual dysfunction. The NHS still allows doctors to socially transition children, but warns of irreversible harm from wrong-sex hormones. The United States, in contrast, forces sterilization on children, while countries like Sweden and France are scaling back participation in the gender mutilation racket.
