Spectator USA: Europe will be duller without Silvio Berlusconi
Europe will be duller without Silvio Berlusconi
Silvio Berlusconi, the flamboyant former Prime Minister of Italy, has died at the age of eighty-six. Berlusconi, who led four Italian governments, blurred the lines between showbusiness and politics until they became all but invisible, much like Boris Johnson in Britain. He was a controversial figure who survived many scandals, sexual and financial, and changed Italian politics in ways at least as profound as Brexit has changed Britain. His eight-decade-long career was marked by cronyism, corruption, and his membership of the P2 Masonic lodge. His departure leaves Italian and European politics a duller and less colorful place.

The Federalist Papers: CBS Poll Backfires as Majority of Republicans Agree on Most Troubling Part of Trump Indictment
CBS Poll Backfires as Majority of Republicans Agree on Most Troubling Part of Trump Indictment
Most GOP primary voters are concerned about the federal charges against Trump being politically motivated rather than a national security risk. A CBS News/YouGov poll found that 76% of respondents are unfazed by the indictment. The survey found that the charges did not hurt Trump’s chances of winning the 2024 Republican primaries, and if anything, it galvanized many Republicans who believe the case was concocted to damage his presidential campaign. The economy remains the top priority among GOP voters.

Virginia Department of Elections Corrects Same-Day Registration Voter List Error
Virginia's Department of Elections corrected errors in voter lists sold to the public, including incomplete voter history data for thousands of same-day registrants. Campaigns, such as that of Democrat state Sen. Dave Marsden, were anxious to receive the accurate information before the June 20 primary. Virginia approved same-day voting legislation in July 2022, allowing registration up to and including Election Day, with Democrats claiming reforms increase ballot access while Republicans argue that they undermine election integrity.

Tucker Carlson Lawyer Suggests Fox News Boycott Amid Alleged Cease-and-Desist Letter
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson has been accused of receiving a cease-and-desist request from the network for his show on Twitter. A lawyer for Carlson said that he would not be silenced by the “far left or by Fox News” and alleged that the network was ignoring the “interests of its viewers”. Fox News has not given a public statement on the allegations. Former California Republican National Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon suggested that other elected officials and conservative commentators may want to boycott the network in light of the allegations.

Poll: 80 Percent of Likely GOP Voters Say Trump Should Be Able to Serve as President Even if Convicted
80% of likely GOP primary voters believe Trump should be eligible to return to presidency even if convicted in the federal case about classified documents. Only 20% believe he should be barred. Majority believes the indictment was politically motivated and the documents don't pose a national security risk. Trump leads a hypothetical Republican primary with 61% and plans to continue his candidacy even if convicted. Trump will attend his first major fundraiser for his presidential campaign after his court appearance and expects to raise $2 million.

The Epoch Times: ANALYSIS: Comparing CNN’s 2024 Town Halls: Trump, Haley, Pence
ANALYSIS: Comparing CNN’s 2024 Town Halls: Trump, Haley, Pence
CNN conducted three town halls with GOP presidential candidates, including former President Donald Trump, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, and former Vice President Mike Pence. The Trump town hall was intense and featured moderator Kaitlan Collins confronting Trump about the 2020 election and his conduct on Jan. 6. The Haley and Pence town halls were less contentious, with a focus on issues of importance to everyday Americans. Pence was pressed on transgenderism and reiterated his stance that transgender surgery should be prohibited for those under 18. The ratings proved that Trump is the biggest attraction not only in the GOP field but also on CNN.

Fox News Reportedly Escalates War with Tucker Carlson - His Attorney Just Released a Blistering Statement
Fox News has reportedly sent a "cease and desist" letter to Tucker Carlson to stop his Twitter show. Carlson's first two shows drew a total of 169 million views but were taken off the air in April. Fox claims his show violates his contract that runs through January 2025, while Carlson has hired a lawyer to help him get out of his contract, claiming Fox abrogated it in the way it treated him. His attorney says Fox is demanding Carlson be silent until after the 2024 election, but he "will not be silenced by anyone".

Microsoft’s Big Footprint In China Is Out Of Step With U.S. Security Concerns
The U.S. identifies China as the biggest threat to national security due to its increasing investment in military capabilities and bid to surpass America in emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence. Microsoft, which has over 70 products in China and employs thousands of software engineers, has been slow to respond to these concerns and has given the Chinese government access to the source code for its Windows operating system. Microsoft's AI products in China are in particular cause for concern as they are assisting China in developing its AI expertise, which is a declared objective of its five-year plan. Microsoft is now moving some of its top AI researchers out of China, but it may be too late to reverse the damage to U.S. national security.

Birtwhistle Hodges, a former rugby player, previously helped the team win a bronze medal at the World Shore Fishing Championships in 2018 before undergoing gender-transition surgery. Half the team quit after Angling Trust, the governing body, allowed Birtwhistle Hodges to participate, citing the physical strength advantage a biological male has in angling. Spectator USA: Wildfire apocalypse, not
Wildfire apocalypse, not
Wildfires in Canada caused smoky air to blow over to the northern and eastern US, producing orange air in New York City. Media immediately blamed climate change, although wildfires and smoky air have always existed in forests. The number of wildfires and acreage burned has dramatically declined everywhere, correlating with fewer, not more, wildfires in Canada and everywhere else.

The Environmental Protection Agency has spent billions of dollars on PM2.5, which is essentially soot. EPA claimed inhaling it can kill you within hours and about one-in-five deaths in the US is caused by PM2.5. Despite New York City's death rate, emergency room visits for asthma, and PM2.5 modeling, none of EPA’s soot expectations were met. If greens were sincere about concern for wildfires, they would call for better forest management practices that make it easier to control wildfires when they start.
