Berlusconi, who led four Italian governments, blurred the lines between showbusiness and politics until they became all but invisible, much like Boris Johnson in Britain. He was a controversial figure who survived many scandals, sexual and financial, and changed Italian politics in ways at least as profound as Brexit has changed Britain. His eight-decade-long career was marked by cronyism, corruption, and his membership of the P2 Masonic lodge. His departure leaves Italian and European politics a duller and less colorful place.

Despite New York City's death rate, emergency room visits for asthma, and PM2.5 modeling, none of EPA’s soot expectations were met. If greens were sincere about concern for wildfires, they would call for better forest management practices that make it easier to control wildfires when they start.
