Fox News: Joe Manchin calls 'bulls---' on GOP taking credit for gas pipeline in debt ceiling deal
Senator Joe Manchin claims credit for advocating the Mountain Valley Pipeline included in the debt ceiling bill, dismissing the notion that Republicans were behind it. He emphasizes that, ultimately, it was his persistent advocacy for the 303-mile West Virginia-to-Virginia pipeline that won the White House over. Republican leaders, however, say they pushed for the provision and only called on Manchin to request the White House withdraw its opposition late in the talks. Political maneuvering over this pipeline project in garners criticism from eco groups.
The project has taken years-long permitting and numerous legal challenges. The long-awaited fast-track provision in the debt ceiling package, among other things, reforming federal infrastructure and energy permitting, includes permitting for MVP. Environmental groups have repeatedly opposed the MVP project and slammed the debt ceiling for including permitting for the project. The project has been significantly slowed by a lengthy permitting process and legal challenges. The pipeline is projected to generate $40 million in new tax revenue for West Virginia, $10 million in new tax revenue for Virginia, and up to $250 million in royalties for West Virginia landowners.

Breitbart: Breitbart Business Digest: The Case Against Recession Is Building
Construction spending rose 1.2 percent in April, beating Wall Street's forecasts and indicating a strong US economy. Homebuilder stocks are outpacing the S&P 500 and residential construction rose by 0.5 percent, with a gain in multifamily construction offsetting a drop in single-family construction. Meanwhile, nonresidential construction, the largest category of which is manufacturing construction, rose 1.9 percent, suggesting a vote of confidence among manufacturers that the predicted economic downturn will be brief. Public construction spending is also up, with highways and streets experiencing a 1.3 percent increase to $124.7 billion. Construction has boosted hiring, with the private sector adding 64,000 construction jobs in May.
The Epoch Times: Large Number of Job Openings May Lead to Rate Hike
US job openings rose unexpectedly in April, reaching 10.1 million, the highest since January, suggesting the recent Silicon Valley Bank crisis had little effect on employers' demand for workers. The robust labour market data may lead Federal Reserve policymakers to raise interest rates in June as they fear the tight labour market will lead to inflation. The historically-low unemployment rate brought the number of job openings per unemployed person to 1.8, leading to investor worries that the Fed’s rate policy-setting committee may not pause an increase in interest rates next month.
Red State: Gavin Newsom Wants State to Buy Wind, Thermal Power, Force Californians to Pay for It
California Governor Gavin Newsom wants the state to buy large amounts of renewable energy to prevent rolling blackouts, a change that could increase costs for Californians. Currently, Californians receive text alerts to set their air conditioning no lower than 78 degrees and avoid using appliances like washing machines during heatwaves due to the shortfall. The energy shortfall is currently made up with diesel generators, but California will need to add about 40 gigawatts of new power over the next 10 years. Newsom's administration wants to use California's purchasing power to encourage private companies to build large power plants that run off of heat and wind. The plan could mean that Californians pay a new charge on their electricity bills.
The Epoch Times: Australia's Housing Market Regains Momentum With Third Consecutive Growth in May
Australian house prices have risen for the third month in a row, with an increase of 1.2% in May. Prices rose by 1.8% in Sydney. The growth has been attributed to low housing supply and increased demand, as well as FOMO. Regional areas saw weaker growth, with only a 0.5% rise in the combined regionals index. Housing approvals across Australia have fallen to a decade low, with a seasonally adjusted 11,594 dwellings approved in April. The decline in approvals is expected to continue and has been attributed to a combination of economic headwinds, construction cost blowouts, labour uncertainties and increased compliance costs.
The Federalist Papers: Largest US Bank Gives Target Painful News Amid Brutal 9-Day Losing Streak
Target Corporation's stock market value has plummeted in the past two weeks, falling $12 billion. The company has suffered a series of losing days, closing Wednesday at a low point of $131.69, the lowest value of Target stock since 2020. JPMorgan Chase & Co. downgraded the stock from “overweight” to “neutral” over concerns that "persistent inflation" would cause a drop in consumer spending. The slump in Target's market value may not be solely because of the economic climate, with the company being identified as alienating conservative and center-right Americans by embracing cultural progressivism, including featuring "tuck-friendly" wear and rainbow-colored onesies in its LGBT pride month store displays.

Fox News: Tennessee man eats only McDonald's food for 100 days straight: Here's what happened
A Tennessee man has lost 58.5 pounds in 100 days by eating only McDonald's in his weight-loss attempt. Kevin Maginnis, who at the start of the challenge weighed 238 pounds, eats McDonald’s three times a day but eats only half of what he orders. For breakfast, he eats one burrito and half of the hash brown or half of the muffin, saving the rest for lunch. For dinner, he might order a Big Mac meal and eat half the burger, half the fries and half the apple pie, saving the rest for the next day. Maginnis said his health after his 100-day challenge is great – with lower cholesterol and a normal blood pressure.
Maginnis' strategy is to eat half a plate to lose weight and a third of the plate to maintain his weight. However, Lindsay Allen, a Florida-based dietitian specializing in metabolic health and weight loss, perceives a couple of problems with the fast-food meal plan. Allen said eventually, Maginnis' metabolism can drop up to 30% when he restricts calories for too long and when he starts eating normal portions again, he will regain the weight right away. Secondly, Allen says that Maginnis is missing out on key nutrients that the body needs for optimal health, which can lead to heightened food cravings. Although Maginnis is healthier after the 100-day challenge, Allen recommends a more balanced diet for weight loss.
