The Epoch Times: GOP Congressman to Resign, Shrinking Republican Majority
GOP Congressman to Resign, Shrinking Republican Majority
Republican Rep. Chris Stewart of Utah announced his resignation, citing his wife's health concerns. The 62-year-old former Air Force pilot and businessman was first elected in 2012 and was an "effective leader" for his state, particularly in safeguarding Utah's role in the national defense. His resignation reduces the GOP's House majority to 221 seats, which could make it more difficult for Republicans to pass legislation; however, the party expects to retain the red district seat in a special congressional election to be held after the governor issues a schedule for both the primary and general special election. Candidates from both parties are already considering entering the field for the vacancy.

The Epoch Times: China Prioritizing Gas Pipeline Projects With Central Asia Over Russia
China Prioritizing Gas Pipeline Projects With Central Asia Over Russia
China is investing in gas pipelines in Central Asia while ignoring Russia's proposal for a new pipeline from Siberia to Northern China. Putin sees the PS-2 pipeline as "the deal of the century," however, the CCP has not prioritized it. The pipeline is crucial to the China-Russia relationship as Russia seeks additional income due to the cost of war and expanding budget deficits from the invasion of Ukraine. The lack of progress on PS-2 may cause the two countries' economic ties to turn cold. The Central Asia Summit held in Xi’an saw China discuss with the region's five heads of state accelerating the construction of Line D, which will connect China and Central Asia for trade and national security interests, some of which are opposed by Russia. With the US having retreated from Afghanistan and Russia being entangled in Ukraine, China aims to expand its influence in Central Asia. They are not interested in upsetting Putin and seek to stabilize the political and social situations in the five countries and ensure the safety of its own territory.

Pentagon Directs 'Child Friendly' Drag Show to Be Cancelled on Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada
The Department of Defense has canceled a scheduled "child-friendly" drag show at Nellis Air Force Base after Rep. Matt Gaetz raised concerns about taxpayer funding being used for the event. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and General Mark Milley informed the Air Force that the use of funding for drag shows is against Pentagon policy, directing the show to be canceled or relocated off of the base. The Nellis LGBTQ+ Pride Council expressed sadness over the cancellation of the event and stated that the DoD has directed Commanders not to host Drag events on military installations.

Can Maricopa County Come Clean Before 2024?
Arizona's Maricopa County accepted 4,484 federal-only ballots for the presidential election in 2020, which were validated solely on voter attestation and not verifiable proof of US citizenship. While this discovery is concerning, it is not a win for Donald Trump but highlights a lack of competency in how US elections are conducted in a critical swing state. Troubling Mistakes in Maricopa County urge further oversight for the next crucial election cycle in 2024.

Twitter Cancels Deal With The Daily Wire To Stream ‘What Is A Woman?’ Over ‘Misgendering,’ Will Label Film ‘Hateful Conduct’
Twitter canceled a deal to stream conservative media company The Daily Wire's documentary "What is a Woman?" due to "misgendering." The film contains two instances of "misgendering," which led Twitter to label it as "hateful conduct" and limit its reach. The Daily Wire will still stream the documentary on its Twitter page, but co-CEO Jeremy Boreing criticized the platform's "speech not reach" policy and called on Twitter CEO Elon Musk to reconsider.

The Epoch Times: Bill 96: Quebec Public Servants Now Required to Make 'Exemplary' Use of French
Bill 96: Quebec Public Servants Now Required to Make 'Exemplary' Use of French
Quebec's Bill 96 language reform law takes effect amid criticism and legal challenges from the province's English community. It includes restrictions on communications with the government in languages other than French, French-language requirements for certain contracts, and a requirement that small businesses report how many of their employees don't speak French. While the government says it's a moderate response to declining French use, critics say it will make life harder for English-speaking Quebecers. Other changes related to the law, such as French-language requirements for students in junior colleges, will come into effect this fall.

The Economist: Bakhmut and the spirit of Verdun
Bakhmut and the spirit of Verdun
The Ukrainian town of Bakhmut symbolizes the modern struggle against an expansionist invader, with over 20,000-30,000 estimated casualties since Russia began pounding it in August 2022. The battle remains ongoing and has exposed splits within Russia's armed forces. Bakhmut is similar to Verdun in France, which represents resistance and honor, sacrifice, and unity in the French mind, and was marked by an existential struggle against an imperialist aggressor during World War I. Both towns exhibit the muscular nature of warfare required and involve an inconsequential town of strategic importance that draws both sides into committing vast military resources to avoid slim territorial losses.

They have also acquired a symbolic importance that outweighs their original strategic value, with both towns being places of military significance and prestige and used to as a call to hold the town. The French turned Verdun into an emblem of strength that made retreat unthinkable, and the Ukrainians’ attempts to hold Bakhmut have attracted attention from those who keep alive the memory of the horrors of 1916.

The Economist: Ukraine gets its F-16s
Ukraine gets its F-16s
After years of asking, Ukraine is finally set to receive F-16 fighter jets from the US, albeit too late to play any role in the counter-offensive expected imminently. Two things have prompted the change in the US's response to Ukraine's request: growing pressure from allies, particularly the British, and a shift within the administration from ensuring Russia could not defeat Ukraine to backing a Ukrainian victory. While Ukrainians are hoping for a game-changing military advantage, analysts question whether the elderly fighter jets will fully deliver on those expectations.

Forbes: Macy’s And Kohl’s Keep Running To Stand Still
Macy’s And Kohl’s Keep Running To Stand Still
Macy's and Kohl's department store chains suffered major losses in sales, with Macy's net income nearly halving. Despite repeated strategic claims, their sales have continued to fall, and their market share continues to wane. Kohl's Sephora and Amazon in-store returns, and Macy's off-the-mall concepts, acquisitions, and rewards program updates have all failed to make a significant difference. Without profound transformations, these struggling middle-range brands will continue their slow slide into oblivion.

Forbes: Can The Oil And Gas Sectors Deliver On Their Decarbonization Promises?
Can The Oil And Gas Sectors Deliver On Their Decarbonization Promises?
The International Energy Agency says the oil and gas industry can reduce emissions by 60% by 2030 through decarbonization methods. Methane emissions can be cut by capturing and reselling 75% of escaping methane, and hydrogen production can be scaled up while investing in carbon capture and storage. Net zero does not require the elimination of fossil fuels but rather off-setting emissions by creating modern grids and transport pipelines. GGE invests in technologies such as batteries, wind, hydro, solar, and green hydrogen, and claims that solutions have a quick payback, enabling companies to reduce emissions and save money. The processes to produce oil, gas, and coal must be cleaner, and there is an urgent need for action.

The Epoch Times: Tories to Introduce Motion Calling on Feds to Scrap New Fuel Regulations
Tories to Introduce Motion Calling on Feds to Scrap New Fuel Regulations
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has sponsored a non-binding motion to have the Canadian government remove its Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR), combined with its carbon tax, which he claims will increase prices by 61 cents per liter of gas. The CFR will increase standards for primary fuel suppliers, like producers and importers, lowering the carbon intensity of all gasoline and diesel used in Canada over time. The proposed regulations have been a point of contention throughout government since mid-May. Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault has defended the regulations, stating that they are designed to expand the use of less polluting fuels throughout the economy.

The Blaze: Blake Treinen denounces Dodgers' endorsement of anti-Christian bigotry: 'My convictions in Jesus Christ will always come first'
Blake Treinen denounces Dodgers' endorsement of anti-Christian bigotry: 'My convictions in Jesus Christ will always come first'
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Treinen has criticized the team for honoring an anti-Catholic hate group as part of an upcoming LGBT pride event. Treinen is the third Major League Baseball player to speak out against the Dodgers' decision to celebrate the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. These performers have long ridiculed Catholicism, including its teachings on marriage, sexuality, homosexuality, and transgenderism. According to the player, honoring the group signals the promotion of hate for Christians and people of faith and disenfranchises a large community. Treinen is of the opinion that sports fans do not want propaganda or politics to be forced on them.

The Epoch Times: Do Your Retirement Plans Include Long-Term Care Planning?
Do Your Retirement Plans Include Long-Term Care Planning?
Retiring seniors need to consider long-term care in their retirement planning as up to 70% of 65-year-olds may need it, with costs rising annually due to inflation. There are several types of long-term care services, including at-home care, adult daycare, care in a facility, or in-home professional medical staff care, with coverage varying between states. Long-term care insurance can help reduce costs, but Medicare and Medicaid do not cover long-term care costs with Medicaid requiring nearly all savings and assets to be eliminated before coverage is provided. Tax benefits may be available for long-term care insurance premiums and benefits, while the type of plan chosen should suit individual needs to protect assets and money.

Boudin won the role due to his substantial experience across the criminal justice system. Some critics, including San Francisco community activist Richie Greenberg who led the recall effort to remove Boudin from office, have criticized the move and pointed to the reasons behind Boudin's ousting from office.
