Newsbusters: CNN, MSNBC Plug Democrat Book Complaining About GOP Winning Elections
CNN and MSNBC recently promoted David Pepper's latest book, Saving Democracy, which argues that Republicans are more successful in winning lower-level offices. CNN's Kaitlan Collins noted Republican legislative actions in several states and highlighted that Republican party holds the governorship and majorities in both chambers of the state legislature in 22 states compared to 17 for Democrats. Pepper urged corporations to help Democrats by registering voters and helping them get voter IDs. He also complained about statehouses becoming "unaccountable places" and accused Republicans of acting "extreme."
Red State: 'Missing' Biden Witness Speaks Out, and It's Not Good for Joe
Former Israeli Defense Force colonel Gal Luft, a missing witness in the Joe Biden scandal, claims he was persecuted to protect the Bidens after giving the FBI information about the CEFC relationship between the Bidens and the Chinese. Biden received monthly payments from CEFC in exchange for use of the Biden name to promote China's Belt and Road Initiative. Luft also claimed that Hunter Biden had an FBI mole named "One Eye" who tipped off CEFC executives that they were under investigation. Luft is currently awaiting extradition to the US and has gone into hiding.
Luft's claims regarding the Bidens have been backed up by bank information obtained by the House Oversight Committee and information found on Hunter Biden's laptop. However, Luft has also accused prosecutors of removing reference to the Bidens from emails in court transcripts, indicating bias. Luft has stated that despite all of this information being available since 2019, the FBI never followed up with him until his arrest. This adds to the growing problems that Joe Biden will face going into the 2024 election.
PJ Media: Huge Trove of Photos from Hunter Biden’s Laptop Released
Thousands of photos from Hunter Biden's laptop, captured from 2008 to 2019, were made public via a new website created by Garrett Ziegler, founder of the nonprofit Marco Polo. Ziegler spent months editing the photos, redacting sensitive information and avoiding presenting the Bidens in a favorable light. Some of the images could reportedly depict foreign collusion, money laundering, and sex crimes involving Hunter Biden and multiple women, including Hunter's underage niece. The site, BidenLaptopMedia.com, appears to be temporarily unavailable due to high traffic.
American Thinker: Here’s a mouthful: Diversity hire for Washington’s brand new diversity office fired amid reports of anti-diversity
Dr. Karen Johnson, the first director of Washington state's Office of Equity (OOE), was fired amid multiple claims of inappropriate workplace behavior, including micromanaging, making unreasonable requests, and making insensitive comments. She was also accused of holding bigoted views against certain minorities, including Mexicans, and reprimanding women for not wearing makeup and engaging in cultural appropriation. Johnson is considering legal action, claiming she was fired for "pushing for accountability at state agencies." The investigation revealed that the OOE had an overall attrition rate of 29% since it was created in March 2021.
The Economist: The moratorium on repaying student loans in America was a bad idea
America's moratorium on student-loan payments is set to end for good, as the debt-ceiling deal negotiated by President Joe Biden and the House speaker would resume student-loan payments on August 30th, without the possibility of an extension. While media reports and surveys suggest the pause allowed young people to make ends meet, pay down debt and build up savings, a new paper by economists at the University of Chicago suggests that the pause in student-loan payments caused borrowers to rack up more debt, not less. Beneficiaries of the moratorium accumulated an additional $2,500 in student-loan debt and an additional $2,000 in credit-card, mortgage and car-loan debt, boosting total household indebtedness by 8%.
State legislatures in America are becoming another front in America’s clash with China as they pursue their own foreign policies. Meanwhile, conservative Americans are building a parallel economy as they feel stigmatized for their political beliefs. For-profit polarisation is driving Republicans and Democrats further apart, with entrepreneurs now offering services prioritizing either the left or right. In Cleveland, downtown densification is being pursued as a solution to the city's woes. Detroit-based billionaire Dan Gilbert thinks it can work by making downtown more appealing to young renters and buyers, claiming it will help to retain residents and catalyze economic development.
Fox News: Portland considers banning public homeless camping during daytime hours
The City Council in Portland is considering a new measure to ban daytime camping for homeless people in most public places to comply with a new state law and ease residents’ discontent with the homelessness problem. Homeless people would need to dismantle their camps, displays, and garbage during the day, and would receive a warning for the first two breaches. After three violations, they could be fined up to $100 or imprisoned for up to 30 days, and would not be allowed to camp between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. in city parks, near schools, daycares, construction sites, and on some pavement areas.
The new rules are seen as a burden by advocates who warn this measure would further burden the homeless and stress non-profit agencies already strained, suggesting that Mayor Ted Wheeler’s goal of getting enough shelter and accommodations to eliminate camping could be an attainable long-term solution. Some business and property owners have expressed support for the ordinance, as some customers and workers are discouraged from shopping or going to work due to encampments. An in-person meeting is expected to continue for hours tonight, with councilmembers anticipated to vote next week.
Fox News: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to moving a debt ceiling package through the Senate
The Senate now has the debt ceiling package approved overwhelmingly by the House Wednesday night. The upper chamber of Congress could easily step on the gas and try to sync up with the House and pass the bill late Thursday or in the wee hours of Friday morning.
The timing of the Senate's passage will hinge on whether the sides can work out a time agreement as well as an accord on what amendments, if any, are in order and debate time. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., could seek an amendment regarding permitting and the Mountain Valley Pipeline. There are a host of other amendment proposals out there. It will take time to cobble together an agreement for debate and amendments.

Breitbart: California Lawmakers to Honor Anti-Catholic Drag Queen Group Amid Dodgers Uproar
California State Legislature to honor anti-Catholic group "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" for their work with the LGBTQ community, specifically hailing Michael Williams/Sister Roma. The move has been criticized by the Center for American Liberty and Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher, who called it "disgusting" and "anti-Catholic." The Los Angeles Dodgers also faced backlash for inviting the group to Pride Night and later reinstating the invitation. Dodgers pitcher Blake Treinen voiced his disapproval, citing his faith and Galatians 6:7.
The Epoch Times: Amazon Workers Walk Out Over Return to Office Policy and Climate Impact
Over 2,000 employees at Amazon walked out globally to protest against layoffs, the firm's environmental impact and return to office policies. The majority of those protesting participated in the demonstration virtually, but a thousand gathered outside the firm's Seattle headquarters, with some holding signs demanding that Amazon put climate change as a top priority and accusing the company of not meeting its climate commitments. Amazon had previously publicly pledged to reach net zero carbon by 2040, however, employee protestors demanded that it do so by 2030. Activities like this are often marked by a hashtag, and the appropriate one in this case is .

Fox News: North Korea releases rare photos of failed launch, criticizes 'gangster-like' US for cracking down on missiles
North Korea defends its right to pursue military technology after the failed launch of its spy satellite rocket. The country released rare photos of the aborted launch and high-ranking members of the regime are on the rhetorical defensive. Kim Yo Jong, sister of dictator Kim Jong Un, lashed out at the U.S. National Security Council after a council spokesperson condemned the launch.
Kim Yo Jong promised that the spy satellite project would continue and eventually be a success. She also stated that the far-fetched logic that only DPRK should not be allowed to use ballistic rocket technology though other countries are doing so is clearly a gangster-like and wrong one of seriously violating DPRK's right to use space and illegally oppressing it.
Foreign Policy: America Is Winning Against China in the South Pacific
The United States is gaining ground in Oceania as China's diplomacy falters in the region. While China has signed a security agreement with the Solomon Islands, its handling of the negotiations alarmed Pacific Island leaders and has not won China many friends. Meanwhile, the United States has inked two security agreements with Papua New Guinea and maintained its near-exclusive access to the North Pacific through the Compacts of Free Association. The United States' advantages in Oceania should be sustained by continued cooperation with like-minded partners, such as Australia and New Zealand. It should also elevate non-security aspects of its engagement with Pacific Island countries, especially on climate policy and development assistance.

The Economist: Can downtown densification rescue Cleveland?
In downtown Cleveland, revitalizing historic neighborhoods through densification is seen as a solution to the city's shrinking population and growing economic challenges. Dan Gilbert's firm, Bedrock, plans to add 2,000 homes and extensive office and non-residential space, part of a $3.5bn project to extend from Tower City Centre to the Cuyahoga river. With well-off new residents, Tower City Centre would, according to Bedrock's plan, turn from a shopping mall into a high-end restaurant and retail hub, raising the value of neighbouring buildings and justifying the investment.
The Epoch Times: The End Times for the Officious Figureheads
The officious figurehead is a ubiquitous presence in organizations, often in high-ranking positions with no actual ability. They manipulate the system for personal gain, handing out favors and taking out grievances on others. Industry trends such as inflation, higher interest rates, and consumer backlash have led to the firing of many of these officials. The HBO series "Succession" highlights how useless and destructive these figures can be, ultimately adding no value to the enterprise at all. The struggle is to get back to actual production, value, and enterprise, cutting out parasitical power plays that have wrecked much of economic life today.

Breitbart: He's in the Money: Elon Musk Reclaims Mantle of World's Richest Person
Tesla CEO Elon Musk reclaimed his position as the world’s richest person just as he wrapped up his first trip to China in three years. Bloomberg Billionaires Index listed Musk's current net worth at $192 billion, beating out French billionaire Bernard Arnault. Despite financial headwinds, Musk's trip to China came as the electric vehicle market faces increased competition and rumors about Tesla's future ambitions in the nation. Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy criticized American CEOs like Musk for catering to China for economic gain.
The Economist: Conservative Americans are building a parallel economy
Conservative Americans are building a parallel economy, with a range of businesses catering to their beliefs and values. These include online marketplaces, dating apps, and wireless networks dedicated to conservative causes. The parallel economy offers a way for consumers to support businesses that reflect their values and for companies to insulate themselves from backlash when backing conservative causes.
The movement for a parallel economy is fueled by populist Republicans who have distanced themselves from corporate America due to its liberal values and increasing similarity to Democratic politicians. However, building viable alternatives to existing products and services is challenging, and many conservative tech firms have struggled to gain a foothold. Despite this, some firms seeking to strengthen conservative communities by offering support for conservative moves and jobs at right-leaning companies have found success.
Forbes: ExxonMobil, Nucor Ink Big Carbon Capture Deal
ExxonMobil and Nucor have agreed a deal in which Exxon will capture carbon emissions from Nucor’s direct reduced iron plant in Louisiana and store them in underground reservoirs. The agreement is Exxon’s third carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in seven months, and will allow its Low Carbon Solutions unit to transport and store five million metric tons of emissions a year for third-party customers. Nucor and CF Industries' emmissions will flow through the same infrastructure. The deal has been criticised by some who claim CCS is an unproven technology, however, Dan Ammann, president of ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions, said such emissions reductions were needed to achieve net-zero goals.

Breitbart: RAF Recruiters Told To Stop Selecting 'Useless White Male' Pilots
The Royal Air Force (RAF) has come under scrutiny for instructing its staff to stop selecting “useless white male pilots” in training programs to diversify the force. According to sources, the email from Squadron Leader Andrew Harwin claimed that training courses were “predominantly white male heavy,” necessitating greater diversity in the ranks. The orders violate UK legislation on hiring discrimination, and are part of a culture that frustrates senior pilots facing military readiness concerns ahead of potential war. The RAF aspires to a workforce that is 40% female and 20% from a minority background by 2030, although diversity quotas have not been met.
Fox News: Army says recruiting numbers are improving but refuses to share data: report
The US Army claims to be seeing an upward trend in recruitment numbers, but has refused to provide the data to support its claim. The Army has declined numerous requests to disclose its quarterly recruiting data, despite their commitment to improving last year's abysmal numbers. The branch missed its 2022 recruiting goals by 25%, which has Congress worried, particularly as the Army represents a key partner in the defense of NATO amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Midwest Living: Missouri's Friendly Battle of the BBQs
The history of BBQ started as barbacoa and grew popular quickly in America, especially during the Great Migration. The rivalry between Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri has been going on for fifteen years. Kansas BBQ sauce is low and slow with a tomato-based sauce while St. Louis style is savory with just the right amount of dry rub. Burnt ends are a popular side dish in both cities. Missouri's overall star in the BBQ game continues to rise, so much so that I-70 is well-known for tourists who plan their own food tours across Missouri from St. Louis to Kansas City and vice versa.

Fox News: Facebook parent company Meta threatens to pull news from platform in California if journalism bill passes
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has stated that it will stop providing news articles on their platforms for users in California if they are required to pay news outlets a fee under a proposed law. The “California Journalism Preservation Act'' requires large online platforms to pay a usage fee to eligible news publishers every month taken from the ad revenue they generate. News outlets would be required to spend 70% of that fee on funding journalist and staff salaries and hiring. Meta has objected to the proposed bill, claiming that it benefits larger out-of-state publishers rather than local outlets.
