The Federalist Papers: Trump Attorney Explains Why a Plea Deal is Out of the Question For the Former President
Former President Trump's attorney, Alina Habba, stated in an interview with Fox News that taking a plea deal in the classified documents handling case is not an option because it would be an admission of guilt. Habba argued that the current investigation is politically motivated election interference orchestrated by political opponents and that there is nothing inherently wrong with Trump declassifying documents, retaining them, or engaging in negotiations with the National Archives and Records Administration. She criticized the raid on Trump's home and voiced concerns about a dual-tier system of justice that appears to be at play.
The Epoch Times: Trump's Lawyer Reveals Advice She Gave Him About Plea Deal in Classified Documents Case
Former President Donald Trump's attorney advised against taking a plea deal, maintaining Trump did nothing wrong in the federal government's classified document case. Trump has denied the charges against him, including 37 federal counts such as conspiracy to obstruct justice, and shared classified records at his residences. Trump allegedly disclosed information regarding defense and weapons capabilities of both the United States and foreign countries, and potential vulnerabilities of the United States, among other sensitive information. He faces a federal court appearance in Miami to face the charges and campaign for the 2024 presidency, regardless of the outcome.
The New American: Should America Reset Relations With Russia?
The United States is engaged in a war with Russia and China, with Iran on their side. The question is whether the U.S. can long continue the fight against the two superpowers, whose joint world order is rapidly drawing in new partners on every continent. The rivalry with Russia is largely of America’s own making, and the case for enmity with Russia isn't as strong as it is with China. Nations throughout history have always known that when it comes to alliances, what matters is making the connections that benefit one’s own people. If the United States eases its tensions with Russia, then it can potentially leave China isolated.
The lesson here is that it is acceptable for alliances to shift according to the needs of one’s country. The U.S. was irresponsible to let China gobble up America’s manufacturing base – something Russia is not interested in doing. The inescapable conclusion is that, if the U.S. is to survive the ongoing conflict with China, it will have to rethink its alliances. At the end of the day, alliances are marriages of convenience, and the true and overarching priority of the statesman is to his own people.
