The Federalist Papers: AI Is a Threat to Christianity: It Can Create a 'New Bible', Influential Author Declares 'We Will Be Beyond The God of The Bible'
Yuval Noah Harari, an author and scholar, speculates on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence, suggesting it may one day create a “new Bible” and “correct” religion. Harari points out that unlike technologies of the past, AI possesses a unique capacity for originality and can create new ideas, leading us to question whether this development poses a threat to our spiritual autonomy. He urgently warns that we need to act quickly before AI gets out of our control and calls on governments to immediately ban the release into the public domain of any more revolutionary AI tools before they are made safe.
Harari draws attention to how AI has not only mastered human languages but is also primed to manipulate culture. He argues that we need to be wary of the insidious influence of AI as it can rewrite the Bible and form a new, “correct” religion that manipulates us as we give our beliefs and independent thinking over to machines. He warns that we are on the brink of relinquishing too much power to this new form of “superhuman intelligence” and if we do not take steps to protect ourselves, society will be at the mercy of an AI-dominated future.
