The Epoch Times: Minister Katy Gallagher Admits to Prior Knowledge of Higgins Rape Allegations, Denies Misleading Australian Parliament
Finance Minister Katy Gallagher admits to having prior knowledge of allegations surrounding Brittany Higgins's rape case, but denies misleading parliament. She confirms that she was aware of some of the allegations shortly before they were made public but denies allegations that Labor had known about it weeks beforehand and chose to weaponize the information. Gallagher says she did nothing with the information but instead was guided by the bravery of a young woman who chose to speak up about her workplace.
Leaked text messages between Brittany Higgins and her boyfriend David Sharaz show that Gallagher had been "heavily invested" in helping Higgins pursue her rape claims. Gallagher confirms that Sharaz had given her information but denies acting on it. Shadow Attorney-General Michaelia Cash says it is now "very, very clear" that Gallagher had knowledge about the issue before it was publicized and accuses senior members of the Labor Party of collusion with the media. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese rules out referring Gallagher to the anti-corruption commission over the multi-million dollar compensation payment to Higgins.

The highest power price increase of almost 30% has been announced by the Queensland Competition Authority (QCA), with regional Queenslanders set to feel the most pressure on their power bills. The households in regional Queensland will see their annual power bill, on average, increase by almost $430 or more than a quarter. Supply-demand balance in Queensland region has been impacted, thus leading to significant price increases, mainly due to an increase in wholesale energy costs from the National Electricity Market (NEM) caused by higher coal and gas prices impacted by the war in Ukraine as well as uncertainty around the availability and reliability of coal-fired power plants.
