Red State: Poll: Nearly Half of Americans Believe President Donald Trump Should Have Been Indicted
Former President Trump has been indicted by a Miami grand jury on alleged classified document retention charges, causing little shift in public opinion, but increasing concern over the seriousness of the charges, especially amongst Republicans and Independents. The latest ABC/Ipsos poll has revealed that more than 46% of respondents believe Trump should suspend his campaign, while 48% believe he should face charges. Additionally, 47% of respondents believe the charges are politically motivated, with few shifts in other positions since April.
Despite the recent indictment, former President Trump has vowed to continue his presidential race, currently holding a decided advantage in the GOP primary. A poll of 910 respondents by ABC/Ipsos found that due to the recent charges, respondents considered the charges more serious than they did following an indictment secured by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The survey revealed minimal shifts in opinion among Democrats and Republicans but a notable shift in concerns from Republicans. Overall, the poll concludes that regardless of Trump's charges, many people believe he should suspend his campaign.
