The Epoch Times: Paxton's Lawyers Take Legal Action Against Impeachment Prosecutors
Paxton's Lawyers Take Legal Action Against Impeachment Prosecutors
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's lawyers have sent a letter to Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan and the co-chairs of the Texas House General Investigating Committee and to two Houston attorneys accusing them of "improper contact" with potential witnesses in an ongoing impeachment proceeding. Attorneys representing Paxton have demanded they stop covertly contacting witnesses, including employees of the Attorney General's Office, and that prosecutors can only initiate contacts after the trial in the state Senate. Paxton was impeached by Texas' GOP-led House of Representatives on articles including bribery and abuse of public trust, triggering his suspension from office pending the outcome of a trial in the Texas Senate.

MSNBC's Velshi: Trump Aside, the Espionage Act Has Problems and Is Used to Attack Whistleblowers
MSNBC's Ali Velshi commented on the Espionage Act, stating that it has been used to prosecute whistleblowers who share information with journalists. Velshi highlighted that while the act has been amended, it does not differentiate between government insiders who share secret information with foreign powers and those who share information with journalists to inform the public about government misconduct.

Red State: Two Damning Paragraphs: Alan Dershowitz Dishes on Trump's Indictment
Two Damning Paragraphs: Alan Dershowitz Dishes on Trump's Indictment
Alan Dershowitz believes that the Justice Department's indictment against Donald Trump is only partly serious and partly expected. He stated that the charges are not significantly different from what others like Hillary Clinton could be charged with. However, the law professor considers two paragraphs in the indictment particularly damning. The audio recording of the conversation may suggest a violation, and Trump's lawyers or Trump himself will need to provide an explanation for sharing classified information with someone without security clearance.

Trump was charged with offenses related to "gathering, transmitting, or losing" national defense information, and there is speculation about potential charges of false statements and obstruction of justice. Republicans criticized the timing of the indictment, as it appears that the DOJ intentionally delayed the process to ensure that the trial takes place after Trump possibly secures the Republican nomination and also to distract from the bribery scandal involving President Joe Biden. If the government cannot prove that Trump revealed the contents of a classified document to an unauthorized individual, it might be difficult to win a conviction. The rest of the charges appear to be on the same level as Hillary Clinton's email scandal, which did not result in an indictment.

Breitbart: Exclusive – Karoline Leavitt: Smith Pursuing Case Against Trump at Biden's 'Behest'
Exclusive – Karoline Leavitt: Smith Pursuing Case Against Trump at Biden's 'Behest'
Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for Trump-aligned super PAC Maga Inc., criticized President Joe Biden and his Justice Department for the indictment against former President Donald Trump. Leavitt accused Biden of "weaponizing the law against Donald Trump" in an "unprecedented step in American history." Leavitt also claimed that the indictment was an attempt to remove Trump's name from the ballot and to cover up the crimes of the "corrupt Biden crime family." The indictment relates to documents that Trump brought with him to Mar-a-Lago at the end of his presidency, and the 38 counts carry a potential sentence of 400 years.

Leavitt also criticized Special Counsel Jack Smith and his deputy prosecutor Karen Gilbert, who Breitbart News reported on Friday "was once reprimanded by a federal judge for secretly recording a defense lawyer and his investigator." Leavitt accused Smith and Gilbert of pursuing the case at Biden and Garland’s "behest." Leavitt also claimed that Smith was a "far-left partisan hack" who led witch hunts against conservatives. Regarding Gilbert, Leavitt asserted Gilbert had engaged in unethical behavior throughout her career. Leavitt said that Smith appeared "nervous and shaky" at his very brief press conference after the indictment was unsealed.

Trump Vows To Stay In Race Even If Convicted Of Crimes: ‘I’ll Never Leave’
Former President Donald Trump has pledged to continue running for the presidency in 2024, even if he is convicted on any of the criminal charges against him. A federal grand jury in the Southern District of Florida has indicted Trump on 37 criminal counts, including willful retention of national defense information and corruptly concealing documents or records. Despite his legal challenges, Trump does not plan to take a plea deal and believes he will not be convicted. However, the case is sure to affect his bid for another term in office.

Breitbart: Josh Hawley: Biden's Energy Secretary Lied to Congress About Holding Stocks
Josh Hawley: Biden's Energy Secretary Lied to Congress About Holding Stocks
Energy Department Secretary Jennifer Granholm lied to Congress about holding individual stocks and only owning mutual funds. But she recently admitted to owning stocks in six companies including Ford, which falls under her purview. Senator Josh Hawley tweeted that it's time to ban all senior executive branch officials and members of Congress from owning and trading stocks, noting Granholm's lie and how it took the Biden administration six weeks to admit to it. A Wall Street Journal report also revealed that one-third of the Energy Department's senior officials own stocks related to the agency's work, with nearly six dozen holding stocks of major energy companies such as Exxon Mobil. Banning politicians and their family members from trading stocks is popular among likely American voters with 76% believing Congress has an unfair advantage.
