Celebrations for the 80th anniversary of VE Day will begin with a military procession and flypast on May 8, honoring the end of World War II in Europe. Over 1,300 participants, including Armed Forces and veterans, will take part, culminating in a flypast by the Red Arrows.

Public street parties are encouraged as part of the Great British Food Festival, alongside a service at Westminster Abbey and an evening concert. These events pay tribute to the sacrifices of veterans, with only about 70,000 from the "Greatest Generation" still alive.

Meanwhile, the LAPD is working to return around 500 firearms lost during the Palisades fires. Many of these weapons were damaged, complicating identification. The department urges anyone who believes they lost a firearm to reach out to the Gun Recovery Unit, acknowledging the sentimental value these items carry for their owners.
