The Epoch Times: Republicans Say DOJ Has Gone ‘Totally Rogue’ After Lawsuit Against 2024 Senate Contender
Republicans are criticizing the Department of Justice for its lawsuit against the West Virginia governor's coal companies for unpaid court fines and reclamation fees. Governor Jim Justice II is mounting a Senate bid against incumbent Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.). Many find the timing of the charges suspicious, coming just weeks after Justice's announcement to run during the rough Senate cycle. The move has been labeled as purely political, and Republicans believe Democrats are using the DOJ to attack a Republican Senate candidate.
Newsbusters: Wagner Throws a Fit Over Dems Needing to Work with GOP on Debt Deal
MSNBC's Alex Wagner characterizes the GOP House Freedom Caucus members who opposed the McCarthy-Biden debt ceiling deal as "far-right Republicans" who will "hold the U.S. economy hostage." Wagner's exaggeration is pure speculation, as no one knows what a default on the debt would do to the economy. Democrats control the Senate and the White House, and Joe Biden and the Democrats' spending have caused the fragile economy that created the need to raise the debt ceiling. Democrats complaining about having to work with Republicans to pass the bill is hypocritical, as they chose to enter Congress knowing it is not a one-party state.
Despite the deal on the table to stop the catastrophe from occurring, the far-right wing in Congress demanded more concessions than what was offered. Wagner further criticizes conservative lawmakers, including Dan Bishop, who tweeted a vomit emoji, and Chip Roy, who called it a "turd-sandwich." Wagner emphasizes that the criticisms are not subtle and blames the conservatives for demanding too much. She finds the irony in the fact that Democrats will have to pass the debt ceiling bill to avert an economic collapse since Republicans did not approve of it. Consequently, the Democrats will have to find common ground and make compromises with Republicans to pass the bill, which she thinks is an abomination.

Red State: Move Over Hitler: Gavin Newsom Warns of Impending Purge by Parents Opposing Sexually-Inappropriate Material for Children
An LGBTQ+ flag was burned and destroyed outside an elementary school in Los Angeles, with the incident being treated as a potential hate crime by the LAPD. A small group of parents had objected to an upcoming Pride Day assembly where children are scheduled to learn about LGBTQ+ identities. California Gov. Newsom has condemned the act and claimed it is part of a "full-throated purge effort" by the far-right to eliminate minority communities, but this assertion has been criticized as dishonest and exaggerated.

National Review: The Corner: Did the Ukraine War Begin In Syria?
Aris Roussinos argues in UnHerd that the Ukraine conflict was prefigured in Syria, with Russian intervention and American delusions about history leading to Russia's return to the world stage as an actor able to direct the course of history. Roussinos suggests that the uncertainties inherent in America’s increasingly chaotic democratic system were the greatest vulnerability for Washington’s allies.
While the argument is interesting, it strangely reinforces the maximalism about Syria in retrospect. Plans were floated for America to send 40,000 troops to Syria to help rebel groups hold on to the slivers of land they controlled, which would have exacerbated the refugee crisis hitting Europe for years as radical Sunni allies cleansed their nation of Alawites who benefit from the Assad regime. The uncertainties inherent in America's democracy are suggested to be its own greatest strategic weakness.

Forbes: Aaron Judge’s Homer Binge Highlights A Strong Second Month For The New York Yankees
Aaron Judge is on pace for another 50+ homer season, but whether he can break his own rookie record of 52 is uncertain. The New York Yankees player was at 18 homers through 46 games and has not played 11 games due to injury and rest, but has hit 12 homers in 20 games since returning. Judge's sudden improvement can be seen in his batting average, which excluding the pandemic-hit 2020 season, has risen year on year to .311 for 2021. By comparison, Babe Ruth hit .356 and Maris .269 during their record-breaking seasons. The Yankees are five games off first place and are improving after a poor start to the season, including three consecutive high-scoring victories.

The tension between the quarterback and the team was palpable, with Rodgers publicly pressuring the front office to change the team's culture. The Epoch Times: Garcia, Ruiz Lead Nats' 5-homer Barrage in 10–6 Win Over Dodgers
Washington Nationals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-6 in the final game of their series, with a strong performance from Luis García and Keibert Ruiz. García broke a 5-5 tie with a three-run homer in the eighth inning and Ruiz hit a home run in the second and ninth innings. The Dodgers' Mookie Betts hit two solo shots but it was not enough to secure a win.
Fox News: NCAA Player of the Year Zach Edey returning to Purdue for senior year instead of entering 2023 NBA Draft
Purdue's big man Zach Edey has announced that he will return for his senior year despite being projected as a second-round NBA draft pick. Edey led the Boilermakers with 22.3 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game last season while shooting 60.7% from the field. Returning for his senior year could raise his draft stock and help him work on areas where NBA evaluators have concerns.

Daily Wire: Elon Musk Reveals Line Of Code Twitter Used To Suppress Tweets If They Contained Certain Words
Elon Musk revealed in an interview that a decade-old line of code found by Twitter engineers suppressed tweets containing specific words, affecting about a thousand words on a list. Although Twitter denies being a part of any political agenda, Musk's discovery has raised concerns and a request for more investigation.
