National Review: The Corner: Why Chris Christie Isn’t Likely to Be Anyone Else’s Stalking Horse
The Corner: Why Chris Christie Isn’t Likely to Be Anyone Else’s Stalking Horse
Chris Christie rumored to announce his entry into the 2024 Republican presidential primary, spending most of his time attacking Donald Trump. There is talk of a quiet deal where Christie will become attorney general in a DeSantis administration if DeSantis wins the presidency, but Christie has been publicly criticizing DeSantis for his actions towards Disney, making the rumor seem implausible.

Red State: Trump Unleashes on Kayleigh McEnany Over Poll Numbers, Rep. Chip Roy Takes Note (Updated)
Trump Unleashes on Kayleigh McEnany Over Poll Numbers, Rep. Chip Roy Takes Note (Updated)
Former President Trump criticized Kayleigh McEnany, his former White House Press Secretary, calling her "milktoast" and accusing her of giving incorrect poll numbers on FoxNews. In response, Rep. Chip Roy appeared on Fox and used the same label to criticize the Congress's debt ceiling deal. McEnany had previously praised Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, which some speculate caused tension between her and Trump.

The Economist: Can the debt-ceiling deal hold?
Can the debt-ceiling deal hold?
United States reaches a debt-ceiling deal, but House Republicans are divided and threaten to vote against it due to concerns over insufficient budgetary concessions. The compromise bill would freeze non-defense spending for two years, impose tighter work requirements on nutrition assistance and welfare, and cut deficits by $1.5 trillion over a decade, but progressivism on the left is not pleased. Nonetheless, the bill may pass with the support of the Democrats and Senate Republicans, despite the fact that the debt limit would only increase until January 1st, 2025.

The Federalist Papers: Bud Light Makes $200,000 Donation to Help Support LGBT Owned Businesses
Bud Light Makes $200,000 Donation to Help Support LGBT Owned Businesses
Bud Light, facing declining sales due to a boycott over its association with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney, has announced a $200,000 donation to the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) to provide support to minority LGBTQ+-owned businesses through various means. The company will contribute to the “Biz Pitch” program, allowing minority LGBTQ+ business owners to compete for a $5,000 grant and a chance to win a $50,000 grand prize at the NGLCC’s annual conference. Bud Light’s sales have dropped significantly since the boycott, and Anheuser-Busch’s market value has dropped by $15.7 billion since the start of the boycott.

The NGLCC expressed gratitude for Bud Light’s ongoing support, particularly in empowering and assisting minority LGBTQ+ business owners and entrepreneurs. Anheuser-Busch has donated over $13 million to date, and despite the boycott, the company has reaffirmed its commitment to being a beer that is accessible and enjoyed by everyone of legal drinking age. It remains to be seen how their partnership with the NGLCC and their support of LGBTQ+ causes will influence their future sales and market value.

Washington 1-year-old child dies in hot car outside hospital: report
A 1-year-old child died after being left in a hot car outside a hospital in Washington state for nine hours. The foster mother, who is a social worker at the hospital, forgot that the infant was in the vehicle and became distracted on arrival at work. Police say that despite being found later that day and rushed inside to be saved, the child, who was affected by temperatures over 100 Fahrenheit, died. This is the sixth case this year of a child dying after being left in a hot car, with all the children being four years old or younger.

A baby girl died in Palm Bay, Florida, after her parents left her in a hot car while they attended church on Sunday. Police said that they found the 11-month-old unresponsive inside the car and she was pronounced dead at hospital. Her parents have not been charged and the case remains under investigation. According to website KidsandCars.org, there have been hot car deaths involving children this year in Texas and Alabama. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that leaving a window open or cracked is insufficient.

Spectator USA: How much does Joe Biden care about gay rights?
How much does Joe Biden care about gay rights?
Joe Biden's moral outlook on gay rights has changed dramatically since his time as senator for Delaware in the 1990s. He has become the leader of the most pro-gay administration in American history and has condemned Uganda's new law on homosexuality, threatening to consider sanctions and restricting entry into the United States against anyone involved in serious human rights abuses or corruption. However, the article questions Biden's position as he has treated Saudi Arabia, where homosexuality is a criminal offense punishable by public lashings and the death penalty, as a vital strategic ally.

The article argues that Biden's stance on gay rights is selective and performative, and his grandstanding on such matters may annoy many conservative Africans and some Islamist regimes. The author also questions the hypocrisy of threatening Uganda with sanctions while treating Saudi Arabia, one of the world's biggest oil producers and a crucial ally, with a free pass. The article concludes by suggesting that powerful despotic regimes such as China, Turkey, and Russia continue to expand their influence globally, dealing in hard, often brutal realpolitik, unlike America's selective sanctimony.

National Review: ‘Conjoined Twins’: Beijing Claims Elon Musk Backs Continued U.S.-China Codependence
‘Conjoined Twins’: Beijing Claims Elon Musk Backs Continued U.S.-China Codependence
Chinese officials quoted Elon Musk saying that the US and Chinese economies are "inseparable" and "conjoined twins." Musk believes that American and Chinese economic interests are too codependent to be decoupled. The Tesla founder's comments were published by the Foreign Ministry of the People's Republic of China. Tesla shares rose over 4 percent as news of the friendly visit spread. Musk is one of several American executives who are traveling to China to shore up relations amid the Covid pandemic. Relations between the US and China have grown increasingly rocky as American public opinion has rapidly soured on China since the global pandemic. Republican senators have demanded the Biden administration "use all available tools" to impose "sanctions, export restrictions, and investment bans" on Chinese tech companies. However, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen have underscored the importance of ongoing economic cooperation and have not favored decoupling from China.

CBO Releases Estimates On The Impact Of The Debt Ceiling Agreement

Sometimes, waiting for the storm to pass is the safer option. Remember to batten down the hatches and secure loose items. Finally, if the weather looks bad, just don't go.
