Fox News: Chicago City Council approves $51 million to help migrants sent from border
Chicago City Council approves $51 million to help migrants sent from border
Chicago City Council approves $51 million in spending to aid migrants arriving in the city, citing a humanitarian crisis. Dem. Mayor Brandon Johnson emphasizes the need for resources such as food, housing, and staffing and vows to support new arrivals as they rebuild their lives in the US, while also seeking additional funding from the state and federal government for as long as necessary. Meanwhile, Chicago has faced the challenge of accommodating migrants due to Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to send migrants to large cities across the US.

Former mayoral candidate Ja'Mal Green calls on aldermen to vote down the funding, proposing the need for a tangible plan of investment into the neighborhoods that suffer the most before allocating the funds. It is noted that the city of Chicago has already faced an estimated cost of $102 million from January to June alone in addressing the migrant crisis, and has received financial aid of $30 million from the Illinois government and $4.4 million from a FEMA Emergency Program.

Fox News: Comey calls Trump a threat to ‘rule of law’ weeks after Durham report blasted FBI’s ‘fidelity to the law’
Comey calls Trump a threat to ‘rule of law’ weeks after Durham report blasted FBI’s ‘fidelity to the law’
Former FBI Director James Comey called President Trump a "threat" to the rule of law, while the Durham investigation found that Comey's FBI failed to uphold its "mission of strict fidelity to the law." The investigation revealed that the FBI did not have sufficient evidence to begin the probe into allegations of Trump's campaign colluding with Russia. Comey has also been criticized for not pursuing charges against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Conservatives criticized Comey's response, but the ex-director did not give an immediate comment.

Comey: 'Crazy' to Believe FBI Is Leftist Cabal Out to Get Republicans
James Comey defended the FBI against allegations by Republicans that it is a "leftist cabal" out to get them, saying it's "crazy." The notion has been promulgated by Donald Trump and his supporters, who see the agency as a threat to his presidency. The former FBI director, who was fired by Trump in 2017 while investigating Russian interference in the US election, said the FBI will be fine in the long run.

Red State: OPINION: Is Trump Running His Worst Campaign Ever?
OPINION: Is Trump Running His Worst Campaign Ever?
Former President Trump hinted at his 2024 re-election campaign just days before the midterms, causing concern for some Republican rank-and-file who didn't want to galvanize Democrat voters. Trump unveiled his nickname for Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, calling him “Ron DeSanctimonious,” which was not well received even by MAGA loyalists. The Trump campaign leans heavily into attacking DeSantis, which is an early commitment to mud-slinging that many voters aren’t looking forward to.

Team Trump recently posted their latest criticism of DeSantis claiming that he voted in 2017 to confirm Christopher Wray as Director of the FBI, but DeSantis was actually a member of the House, and it’s the Senate that confirms appointments. Trump suggested that the pollster McEnany cited had corrected their numbers, accusing the former White House Press Secretary of knowing the numbers had been updated when she told audiences of a DeSantis increase in Iowa support, but no pollster issued any corrections. It’s really hard to vow a vote for Trump in the primary when his words and the campaign’s rhetoric make daily life about correcting stupid things they said. This campaign is the worst one yet.

Fox News: GOP seeks new Taliban sanctions for human rights abuses nearly two years after Afghanistan withdrawal
GOP seeks new Taliban sanctions for human rights abuses nearly two years after Afghanistan withdrawal
Republican senators plan to introduce the Taliban Sanctions Act, which would impose tough new sanctions on the Taliban for human rights abuses in Afghanistan, including terrorist activity, drug trafficking, and abuses against women. The bill demands the Taliban separate ties from all terrorist groups, grant humanitarian groups full access to its territory, and recognize human rights. The Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021 after the U.S. removed all troops from the region, but the legislation aims to hold the Taliban accountable for its actions.

Foreign Policy: The Indo-Pacific Has Already Chosen Door No. 3
The Indo-Pacific Has Already Chosen Door No. 3
Indo-Pacific nations are actively choosing multi-alignment in their partnerships, balancing relationships with the US and China. The US may want to be the security partner of choice in the region, but most states in the region have already opted for this diversified approach as their first choice, rather than a backup option. Multi-alignment is also a necessity due to China's position as their lead trade partner and investor. Washington should build its Indo-Pacific strategy around leveraging the historical and cultural connections of its closest regional allies, allowing them to lead in developing deeper relationships with their neighbors.

Fox News: Navy officials called critics of LGBTQ+ Pride efforts 'bigots' and 'a**holes,' emails show
Navy officials called critics of LGBTQ+ Pride efforts 'bigots' and 'a**holes,' emails show
Navy officials dismissed critics of its LGBTQ+ Pride promotion as bigots and a**holes. Two officials expressed disgust with negative public response to its social media posts for LGBTQ+ Pride Month last year, according to emails obtained from the Functional Government Initiative. One official wrote about their discomfort with how the bigots outpaced the Navy in social media traction. The Navy is estimated to miss its recruitment goals for fiscal year 2023 by 16%, according to the vice chief of naval operations. The documents show that the Navy values politics over its own struggling recruitment efforts, according to Pete McGinnis of the Functional Government Initiative.

The Navy’s assistant chief of information, whose name is redacted, responded to the suggestion of disabling LGBTQ+ Pride posts with advice on how to promote the "righteousness of our cause" with help from "more savory members of our audience." The assistant chief of information appeared to suggest an opposition from the recruiting wing of the Navy, known as CRUITCOM, in a separate email about choosing a Pride Month profile photo for social media. This supposed opposition from CRUITCOM comes as the Navy is estimated to miss its recruitment goals for fiscal year 2023 by 16%, according to the vice chief of naval operations. The Navy admitted earlier this month it hired a drag queen to help with recruiting.

The store's manager claims the company policy is to not engage with shoplifters, so they can take anything they want without being stopped. This kind of brazen organized crime happens every day, costing Colorado retailers $1 billion a year, and retailers such as Walgreens, Nordstrom, Whole Foods and Old Navy have had to close stores in some cities due to increased shoplifting and safety concerns. Retail theft is a sign of a breakdown in our culture.
