Townhall: Time Bomb
Social Security and Medicare are both on the brink of bankruptcy due to too many old people living longer and not enough working people to support them. Politicians are afraid to address the issue and even hinting at solutions gets them shouted down by misinformed seniors. Reserve funds for Social Security are projected to run out by 2034 and Medicare's reserves will run out even sooner. The only solution is cutting benefits, raising the age when benefits start, or privatizing retirement plans, but politicians are unwilling to take these steps. Without action, bad things will happen to senior citizens such as benefit cuts, health care rationing, or difficulty finding doctors and hospitals to treat them.
PJ Media: Time Bomb
Social Security and Medicare are both going broke due to the fact that too many old people are living longer, and there are not enough working people to support them. Despite the obvious problem, politicians are afraid to talk about it publicly, and even those who do get attacked by misinformed seniors. Reserve funds for Social Security are projected to run out by 2034 and Medicare's reserves will run out even sooner. The only solution is cutting benefits, raising the age when benefits start, or privatizing retirement plans. However, politicians are unlikely to do anything, either out of fear of losing votes or simply not being in office anymore.
