Spectator USA: Is Trump taking Hillary’s road to oblivion?
Trump is running for president for the third time. He has spent his time taking shots at Florida governor Ron DeSantis but has only held one campaign rally. DeSantis, meanwhile, has appeared on Fox News and raised $8.2 million in 24 hours. Trump's advisors are all "junior D-league back-benching online influencers" who feed his ego and tell him the nomination is his to lose. This approach failed for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Trump risks the same fate. As DeSantis steps up his campaign, Trump appears to be stalling.
The Federalist Papers: Biden DHS Program Sends Funding to Group Equating Conservatives and Christians with Neo-Nazis and Terrorists, Report Reveals
The DHS's anti-terrorism program, TVTP, allegedly directed funds towards an organization that equated conservative and Christian groups with neo-Nazis and terrorists. The University of Dayton received a grant of $352,109 through the TVTP program and included in its grant application a video presentation by Michael Loadenthal, a research fellow at the University of Cincinnati, whose presentation featured a “Pyramid of Far-Right Radicalization” chart.
Loadenthal advocated for pressuring financial services and online platforms to remove individuals deemed far-right or fascist and admitted to instigating confrontations with self-described “white supremacists” in the past, emphasizing the strategy of deplatforming. The MRC report suggests that Loadenthal’s views represent an effort to silence conservative voices by denying them public platforms and physically preventing them from assembling.

Spectator USA: What to do when you only have modest wine on hand for a decorous guest
Horace's Epistles, make-believe letters, were a source of amusement for readers instead of a conventional message to friends. Epistle 1.5, addressed to successful lawyer Torquatus, is a dinner invitation that suggests a wholly vegetarian meal and wines from a small Spanish producer. The article shares an anecdote of a recent dinner party where the host served wines from Silice Viticultores and the guest brought a 2020 Saint-Aubin Premier Cru and 2017 Tuscan wine. The article ends with a quote from Horace's Epistles about the power of inebriation to reveal hidden things.
Spectator USA: Michael Cimino’s gift to cinema
Director Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate was a flop but the author has watched it multiple times. Cimino's class conflict of cattle barons vs. virtuous immigrants was framed crudely, and according to Charles Elton’s fine recent biography, Cimino: The Deer Hunter, Heaven’s Gate, and the Price of a Vision, he lied about everything. Despite this, Cimino's masterpiece was The Deer Hunter, a movie that tracked the dislocating effects of the Vietnam War on the home front. Categorized as .
