Washington Free Beacon: House Dem Who Ran as 'Anti-Corruption' Crusader Makes Perfectly Timed Stock Trades
House Dem Who Ran as 'Anti-Corruption' Crusader Makes Perfectly Timed Stock Trades
Dan Goldman, a freshman Democratic congressman from New York, has made well-timed stock trades since taking office in January, with purchases of upwards of $65,000 in shares of two software companies, Nvidia and BILL Holdings, that have since increased significantly. Goldman, who touted himself as an "anti-corruption" crusader during his campaign, has made more than 700 trades of shares worth up to $30 million. He has yet to set up a blind trust for his assets, as he pledged to do during his campaign. A bipartisan group of lawmakers has proposed legislation to ban members of Congress from trading stocks, following heightened scrutiny of insider trading.

Goldman's purchases come amid a larger scandal of lawmakers making well-timed stock trades, with politicians like Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and former Sen. Richard Burr coming under scrutiny for their financial transactions. Reps. Matt Gaetz and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have cosponsored a bill to ban congressional stock trading. A spokesman for Goldman has said that the congressman does not personally conduct his stock trades, which are managed entirely by an investment advisor with whom he has had no discussions about any stock trades since entering Congress. Goldman has said he supports legislation to bar members of Congress from trading stocks.

Comer Says FBI Defied Subpoena, Will Move Forward With Contempt
FBI Director Christopher Wray may be held in contempt of Congress by House Oversight Chairman James Comer for failing to comply with a subpoena requesting documentation believed to provide evidence of a "bribery" scheme involving President Joe Biden. The FBI has not yet produced an unclassified document to support these allegations. The chairman accused the FBI of obstruction and hiding information from the American people. Wray has a call scheduled with Comer on Wednesday. Republicans have raised concerns about the Biden family's alleged involvement in influence peddling schemes linked to countries worldwide, while Democrats accuse them of ignoring former President Donald Trump's misconduct.

They Censored at the Behest of the White House: More Reporting From Tracy Beanz
Social media companies deplatformed individuals branded by the White House as the "Disinformation Dozen" within 24 hours of them being publicly identified. The White House directed social platforms to remove content that suggested Hank Aaron may have died due to the vaccine, and demanded the removal of other posts and people from their platforms. White House director of digital communications, Rob Flaherty, acted aggressively towards social media execs, even threatening them, when they did not comply with his demands. This behavior is illegal under the First Amendment.

House Freedom Caucus Members Talk About Moving Against McCarthy
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's debt ceiling deal with President Biden is causing anger among Congressional Republicans, with some questioning his speakership if he doesn't have the support of people like the House Freedom Caucus. Some members have called the deal "insanity" and a "turd sandwich," with Rep. Matt Gaetz warning that using Democrats to pass it would likely trigger an immediate motion to vacate. Many are opposed to the changes, which they argue are "cosmetic in nature," and ultimately won't save the country from the ruin the Biden administration is bringing.

How The Slow Roll Of ‘Constitutional Regime Change’ Unravels A Nation
The Constitution is the regime to which officials bind themselves, making insurrection an attack against a text. A preeminent philosopher lists causes of constitutional change, including accidents like corrupt elections and immigrants splintering the country into new factions, and non-accidents like an arrogant ruler, a repelling faction, and people acting to avoid disgrace or gain honor. Today's youth prioritize current ideas over wisdom from the ages, making the Constitution irrelevant to them, but it's important to reference past ages to preserve the American regime.

Biden Administration Sanctions Chinese, Mexican Entities Involved in Fentanyl Production
The Biden administration placed sanctions on 17 organizations and people in China and Mexico allegedly distributing equipment used in the production of illicit pills containing fentanyl, a synthetic opioid painkiller that is 50 times more potent than heroin. Most of the illegal fentanyl in America is made in Mexico from substances and precursors that come from China. The move follows a bill passed by the House backed by the White House that would classify all fentanyl as Schedule I substances. The sanctions targeted every stage of the deadly supply chain fueling the surge in fentanyl poisonings, which have been one of the leading causes of overdose deaths in the US.

Bud Light's parent company, AB InBev, has remained silent on the controversy and is hoping to weather the storm. The account's silence speaks to conservatives' growing strength in the cultural war.

Surprise! U.S. TikTok Creators’ Financial Info Is Stored in China
TikTok has been storing the financial and personal information of its creators on servers in China, which are accessible by CCP employees. TikTok CEO, Shou Zi Chew, had previously testified to Congress that American data was stored in the US and Singapore and was only accessible by engineers on an as-required basis. However, multiple sources have confirmed that sensitive data belonging to American TikTok creators is being stored in China, where all companies are required to share data with the CCP, making access by the Chinese government to this data highly likely.

ESG Advocates Say Anti-ESG Movement Creating 'Concerns and Challenges'
Speakers at The Economist's Sustainability Week conference discussed the Republican-led movement against ESG investing. Witold Henisz, faculty director of the ESG Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania, is unworried about anti-ESG movement winning, but says there is real concern and fear in the business world about defending ESG. High-profile conference participants included members of the Biden administration, influential Democrats, corporate leaders and environmentalists. They cited the boycotts by American states against financial institutions, use of ESG by pension fund managers and a conflict touching off after Rep. Chip Roy and other Republicans introduced legislation to keep federal money out of any ESG-influenced retirement funds.

The Corner: U.S. Accuses China of ‘Unnecessarily Aggressive’ Intercept over South China Sea
China intercepted a U.S. reconnaissance plane in international airspace over the South China Sea last week, causing the U.S. military to accuse China of an "aggressive maneuver." This is not the first time China has provoked the U.S. in the same manner. Chinese officials have rejected all of the U.S.'s requests for dialogue to minimize the risk of potential accidents. U.S. Indo-Pacific commander, Admiral John Aquilino, expressed concern over "dangerous and escalatory actions" by China and the increasing closeness of intercepts of U.S. aircraft which are "opposition to the international rules of order and safety." In spite of Chinese officials stonewalling U.S. requests for dialogue on security, a Chinese military attache expressed China's commitment to "peaceful coexistence" during Aquilino's speech.

The Epoch Times: Purchasing Fentanyl ‘Easy as Ordering Uber’: California County Supervisor
Purchasing Fentanyl ‘Easy as Ordering Uber’: California County Supervisor
Orange County Supervisor Doug Chaffee has warned that purchasing the synthetic drug fentanyl is now as easy as ordering takeout on one's iPhone. With a majority of the chemicals used to make the drug coming from China and being shipped to Mexico, Chaffee and other officials warn that these counterfeit pills, many of which are mixed with fentanyl, are incredibly cheap and easy to purchase online. Orange County authorities seized nearly 550 pounds of fentanyl in 2021, while in California, fentanyl seizures increased by 594 percent last year. Opioid overdose antidote naloxone has saved countless lives, but Chaffee said it needs to be given within minutes to be effective. In California alone, 717 people died from fentanyl overdoses in 2021.

‘Profoundly Christian’: Former Head Of Anglican Church Presses British Government To Endorse Assisted Suicide
Retired bishop George Carey has urged the British Parliament to expand access to assisted suicide. He argued that palliative care and assisted dying have to exist alongside each other in order for people to have options available to them at the end of life. Carey claimed that it is not justified to expect others to share the belief that some people find meaning in their own suffering during their final months of life.

Theologian Carey has previously opposed the legalisation of assisted suicide. However, he now believes that assisted dying makes it necessary to balance people’s wishes with their religious beliefs. It is currently illegal in the UK to assist in a person’s suicide in any way, however, the law is being relaxed elsewhere.

AI Can Make Anyone a Programmer, Nvidia CEO Says
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced at the Computex forum in Taipei that anyone can become a computer programmer using generative AI, which produces various types of content without the need to write code. According to Huang, the "programming barrier is incredibly low," and generative AI is closing the digital divide by allowing individuals to program computers by simply telling an AI system what to create. Nvidia considers generative AI to be the most significant computing platform of our time because it enables creative professionals to generate images from text prompts, assists programmers in application development and debugging, and transforms 2D floor plans into 3D models. The company also announced a partnership with WPP for generative AI-enabled content for digital advertising.
