National Review: Anti-ESG Movement Racks Up Wins in Eleven States as Media Insist Effort Is ‘Backfiring’
Eleven US states have passed anti-Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) legislation this year, with 13 other bills under consideration, despite claims that the movement was failing, according to supporters. Conservative lawmakers have said the ESG movement overlooks the importance of financial returns when it grades companies on issues including ethics, board diversity, and environmental and sustainability efforts. Critics argue that ESG legislation could cost states billions of dollars in lost returns and additional interest payments, but supporters maintain that bills aim to protect economic interests rather than prop up specific industries. Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky and Montana are among states that passed legislation against ESG investment decisions.
Newsbusters: On PBS, WashPost Columnist Laments Musk Ended Era of 'Objective' Journos on Twitter
PBS NewsHour hosted a discussion on Elon Musk's moves to rid Twitter of verification badges, which liberal journalist Philip Bump saw as giving less influence to objective journalists compared to partisan conservatives spreading false information. Bump favored the previous ownership's cancel culture, which Bump claimed kept off "people who had been spreading information that was false" about the 2020 election or the pandemic. While host Geoff Bennett noted Musk's desire for a platform of free speech for conservative voices, Bump criticized Musk's ability to "mute or muffle the extent to which the media were powerful" on the platform. The discussion also touched on the potential impact that Musk's leadership could have on the media's use of Twitter and on the Democratic majority on the platform, which could change under Musk's leadership.

National Review: Rape Survivor Says University Discriminated against Her Because She’s Pro-Life
Canadian pro-life activist Talia Battista was told by Ryerson’s Students’ Union that it was “not appropriate” for her to attend a “Self-Healing Through Yoga” event for campus sexual assault survivors due to Battista’s affiliation with Toronto Against Abortion. Her group had been banned from the campus on account of the university’s pro-choice stance and a decade-old ruling preventing the union from granting it official status. RSU employees repeatedly protested the group and stole its posters. Battista submitted a discrimination lawsuit with the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal in August 2017, alleging prejudiced treatment based on her religious beliefs, becoming a test case after the tribunal dismissed certain sections of her claims in January. The adjudicator found her beliefs to be a protected “creed” under the provincial human-rights code, setting up a subsequent legal confrontation with Ryerson and the RSU.

Forbes: Russia Accuses Ukraine Of ‘Terrorist Attack’ After Drones Hit Moscow
Russia has accused Ukraine of a terrorist attack on Moscow after a wave of drone strikes, the first large-scale drone attack on Russia's capital since it invaded Ukraine last year. No deaths have been reported and nobody was seriously injured, but several buildings sustained minor damage and some residents were temporarily evacuated. The attack appears to have targeted Moscow's wealthy neighborhoods, including the official residences of top government officials. While drone attacks have become more common inside Russia's borders, it is rare for any to reach Moscow. Ukraine denies responsibility for the attack but predicts an increase in drone attacks.
Forbes: China Illegally Entered Vietnam’s Waters. Russia Is Raising The Stakes.
China has been sending vessels to patrol through energy exploration blocks operated by Russian firms within Vietnam’s EEZ, increasing tensions in the South China Sea. The incursions near gas blocks owned or operated in part by Russian firms illustrate China’s growing aggression in the region. The move also reveals an aspect of China’s partnership with Russia. Vietnam must continue to fight China's attempts to restrict its sovereignty and choke its revenue. UNCLOS should be the governing principle of maritime boundaries in the South China Sea, supported by law-abiding nations to push back against China’s aggression. Russia's backing makes it important that law-abiding nations rally around international law to keep it from crumbling.

Liberty Nation: China Ramps Up Arctic Intrusion
- China is pursuing its Belt and Road Initiative, expanding to include the Arctic through the Polar Silk Road project. Despite being far from the Arctic, China claims to be a "near-Arctic State" and has gained observer status in the Arctic Council. The US and other Arctic countries must be wary of China's strengthening partnership with Russia and increasing presence in the Arctic.
- Countering China in the Arctic may not require direct military action but intense training and exercises. NATO is holding Arctic exercises, including the largest air exercise among NATO nations in Europe this year, to prepare for Arctic operations. The US is also developing its presence in the Arctic by investing in expanding the port at Nome and training soldiers for Arctic combat. Meeting China's growing presence with a united front can potentially hinder China's momentum in the region.

The Epoch Times: Graham Vows to Fix Biden’s Defense Budget ‘Disaster’ in Debt Ceiling Deal
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) criticized President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for “gutting” national security with their debt ceiling deal that caps defense spending at $886 billion in 2024. Graham expressed his disgust on Twitter, adding that he would use all powers available to him in the Senate to have amendment votes to undo this “disaster” in defense. The Republican lawmakers have argued that the Navy’s share of the FY2024 defense budget isn't enough to compete with China, which is currently boasting the world's largest navy. Graham has questioned the defense budget allocated for the US Navy, estimated at $255.8 billion, which he said is inadequate and matches and eventually dips below the lowest level in modern history.
According to Sam Tangredi, a professor at the US Naval College and former US Navy captain, in the naval wars waged in the past, 25 were won by the larger fleet. He pointed out that bigger fleets always win in naval warfare as the overall might of the fleet generally facilitates more extensive training and is often an indicator that leaders are concerned with strategic requirements. Tangredi's article published in the US Naval Institute’s Proceedings magazine is being referred to as a warning on the ability of smaller US naval force to win against a larger People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) on China's home turf, in range of the PLA's air and rocket forces, calling for US leaders to ask themselves to what extent they are willing to bet on technological rather than numerical superiority to win. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has penned an op-ed that sea power is essential in countering communist China, warning that if the Chinese Communist Party succeeds in displacing the US as the world's dominant naval power, “it will mean a change in the rules of international politics, and not one for the better." Rubio asked US President Joe Biden why his budget request for the Navy and Marine Corps are below inflation and why the White House wants to cut the Navy's funding when it’s already losing ground. He added, if the nation's leaders want to maintain US maritime supremacy and all the benefits it brings to the American people and the world as a whole, they need to reorder their priorities and accelerate shipbuilding.

His work gained worldwide fame and earned him a full-time job with Ripley's Believe It or Not! and his own museum called Matchstick Marvels. His most impressive creations include replicas of Notre Dame Cathedral and the U.S. Capitol building, each made with hundreds of thousands of matchsticks.

The Epoch Times: Matt Ridley: I'm Shocked by How Little the World Wants to Investigate COVID-19 Origin
British science writer and former member of the House of Lords, Matt Ridley, said it's shocking how little the world has investigated the origin of COVID-19, highlighting the role of "citizen science" in the lab leak theory. Ridley co-authored "Viral: the search for the origin of COVID-19" with Canadian molecular biologist Alina Chan, and believes that a proper investigation is "absolutely vital" to prevent another pandemic. He called for more information on what happened since professional scientists, journalists, and spies have not done a good job investigating. Ridley believes science needs to treat ordinary people as capable of engaging in conversations and remind itself that it's not dogma, sharing uncertainty and doubt with the world to regain trust.
The Epoch Times: Stress Ushers in Harm Through Microbiome
Stress-related complaints are linked to 75-90% of doctor visits. Stress can weaken the immune system, trigger episodes in diseases, and cause both psychological and neurological disorders. It damages the gut microbiome through the gut-brain-microbiome axis, which influences the body's countless processes, including epigenetics and health symptoms. Chronic stress from sources like environmental factors, the news, rising debt, and digital apps can trigger a biochemical cascade of changes in the body, leading to a rise in certain hormones and shift from rest-and-digest roles to fight-or-flight roles. Modern stress triggers biochemical changes through environmental factors, and this triggers our microbiome to turn on our autoimmunity. Stress is the root cause of most health symptoms, and gut bacteria influence everything. The gut microbiome produces trillions of bacteria, viruses, and fungi vital to the body, creating hormones and playing a role in the creation of neurotransmitters like serotonin, norepinephrine, epinephrine, and dopamine. Chronic stress has been linked to low levels of short-chain fatty acids, reducing levels of SCFAs. Certain activities to reduce stress are suggested, such as talking to a trusted friend, drinking tea, and getting adequate sleep. Managing anger, practicing regular self-care, and delegating tasks that don't need to be done by you are additional ways to reduce stress.

National Review: The Catholic Players Who Shaped Baseball
The Los Angeles Dodgers sparked controversy by planning to honor the anti-Catholic “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” as part of their LGBTQ+ Pride Night. The Catholic community and Bishop Robert Barron called for boycotts of the Dodger's games. Despite opposition, the team still went through with honoring the group. Baseball is steeped in Catholic heritage, and the Dodgers have failed to recognize this deep-rooted tradition .
The game of baseball owes a great deal to Catholics like Babe Ruth, Roberto Clemente and even the Knights of Columbus, the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization. Many of the early baseball greats were Catholics, including two of its most celebrated managers John McGraw and Connie Mack. The Dodgers organization has a strong Catholic history, it is ironic that they chose to honor an anti-Catholic group and ignored their own fanbase. The Dodgers' lack of awareness about their audience trends reflects a new trend in which large companies fail to understand their audience ( ).
