Fox News: Republicans to hold FBI Director Wray in contempt of Congress over Biden document
FBI Director Christopher Wray faces contempt of Congress after the Bureau failed to comply with a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee related to an alleged criminal scheme involving Joe Biden. The committee had requested an FBI-generated form regarding a possible criminal plot involving Biden and a foreign national in relation to the exchange of money for policy decisions. Despite two deadlines, Wray failed to provide the document and the FBI indicated it would not provide it to the committee. The committee has vowed to protect its oversight authorities and to continue seeking transparency from the FBI.
The Blaze: Sen. Paul unveils 'conservative alternative' to Biden-McCarthy debt ceiling agreement: 'Bold actions must be taken'
Sen. Rand Paul plans to introduce a "conservative alternative" to the debt ceiling agreement made by President Biden and House Speaker McCarthy. Paul will propose an amendment to raise the debt ceiling only $500 billion while instituting a 5% spending cut each year. Other Republicans, including Rep. Nancy Mace, are criticizing the agreement for not addressing out-of-control government spending.
The Federalist Papers: McCarthy Could Lose House Speakership as Debt-Ceiling Deal on Brink of Crashing and Burning
House conservatives are considering a parliamentary tactic to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy over their unhappiness with the budget deal he worked out with President Joe Biden. Republican Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado suggested using a rule that would force a new vote for the House speaker. While not all Republicans wanted to take such a drastic step, some believe the budget deal is "a complete miss." McCarthy won the speakership in January after making concessions that would allow a single member of the House to put forward a motion to vacate the speaker's chair.
National Review: The Corner: New Poll: Republicans Largely Think Trump Is Their Strongest General Election Candidate
The debate over whether Ron DeSantis is more electable than Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 continues. While some argue that DeSantis' younger age and lack of social media distractions make him a more viable candidate, polling suggests that Republican voters still view Trump as the strongest candidate to beat Joe Biden. Ultimately, the argument about electability is hypothetical, and primary voters will always believe that their candidate is the one most likely to win the general election. DeSantis' key argument should be that he would be a better president than Trump.
Breitbart: Ron DeSantis Joining Joni Ernst's Fundraiser as He Kicks Off Campaign
Ron DeSantis is embarking on a campaign tour labeled "Our Great American Comeback Tour," visiting Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, and he will be attending Sen. Joni Ernst's (R-IA) Roast & Ride fundraiser. DeSantis will be joined by other presidential candidate attendees such as Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, and Asa Hutchinson, and he hopes to "restore America" with the support of hard-working patriots across the great states of Florida and Iowa.
Newsbusters: AUDIO: Mark Levin Shreds Rep. Jamie Raskin on the Debt Ceiling
Conservative radio host Mark Levin criticized Rep. Jamie Raskin's (D-MD) call for President Joe Biden to circumvent the debt ceiling using the 14th Amendment. Levin argued that the amendment provides no cover for such an action and criticized the left for interpreting the Constitution in ways the founders did not intend. He also pointed out flaws in Raskin's assertion that section IV of the clause about questioning the "validity of the public debt" applies to the current debt ceiling debacle in Congress. Levin called for an end to media legitimization of the idea that Biden can twist the Constitution in such a way.
Fox News: Jayapal says debt ceiling deal shows GOP doesn’t care about deficits: ‘No meaningful deficit reduction’
The new debt limit bill has faced criticism from both sides of the aisle, with Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal and conservative Republican Dan Bishop expressing their concerns. Jayapal dismissed claims of "meaningful debt reduction" and criticized GOP demands, while Bishop argued that the bill did not go far enough in cutting spending and imposing work requirements. House leaders are working to secure bipartisan support for the bill.
Daily Wire: Students Turn Back On, Boo Liz Cheney During Commencement Speech
Former Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney was met with hostility during her commencement speech at Colorado College, with roughly half of the graduates turning their backs to her during her speech. Cheney, who became well-known for her feud with former President Donald Trump, also received signs of support from the audience. She criticized her fellow Republicans for wanting her to lie about the 2020 election and the January 6 attack, resulting in her losing her position in House leadership.
Cheney took shots at men during her speech, saying that more women should be in politics. She also campaigned for a Democratic candidate in Michigan and opposed Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. One student complained that Cheney was too conservative and that her recent standing up to Trump did not change her voting record or stance on basic human rights.
The Federalist: A Bill Allowing Texas To Withdraw From ERIC Is Headed To Abbott
The Texas Legislature has sent a bill allowing the state to withdraw from leftist-controlled voter-roll management group ERIC to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk for signature. ERIC inflates voter rolls by requiring member states to contact eligible but unregistered residents to register to vote. The bill would permit Texas to “identify and contract with the provider of a private sector data system to identify voters … whose addresses have changed,” “who are registered to vote in more than one state,” “who are deceased” and who are not qualified to vote under state law.
It remains unclear whether Abbott will sign the legislation. In addition to inflating voter rolls, ERIC enjoys an active relationship with Center for Election Innovation and Research (CEIR), another Becker-founded group to which ERIC transmits the voter roll data it receives from states. CEIR creates lists of potential voters for states to register. CEIR is one of the two nonprofits that received tens of millions of dollars from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg leading up to the 2020 election. These grants were poured into local election offices throughout the country to push sloppy Democrat-backed voting practices. If ultimately signed by Abbott, Texas could join the ranks of Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, Missouri, Ohio, and Iowa, which withdrew from ERIC earlier this year.
The Right Scoop: Ben Shapiro weighs in on the debt ceiling deal…
Ben Shapiro approves of Kevin McCarthy's debt ceiling deal with the White House, comparing it favorably to Biden's demand for a "clean" debt increase. He acknowledges the deal's shortcomings but believes it's a success compared to the alternative. Shapiro is confused as to why conservatives are more upset with this deal than they were when Republicans increased spending under Trump.

Spectator USA: How refugees saved a town in upstate New York
Utica, a once-vibrant manufacturing hub, declined after General Electric and the Air Force base left. However, refugees from Vietnam, Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq and other countries kept the city from fading. City of Refugees by Susan Hartman follows the lives of three refugees in Utica, but takes a turn when one of them, Ali, a veteran from Saddam's Iraq, voted for Donald Trump. This event should have been more significant in the book, but instead it was treated as a minor domestic inconvenience. Despite this, the election of Trump impacted the city of refugees, as fewer refugees arrived and bigots made a comeback.

National Review: The Corner: China’s Rejection of Military-to-Military Contacts Is Ominous
China rejected the Pentagon's offer for a meeting between Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Chinese defense minister Li Shangfu due to US sanctions on China. This lack of high-level military communication between the US and China could escalate conflicts, especially as the situation in Ukraine becomes more concerning with Ukraine presenting evidence that Chinese electronics comprise 15% of Russian arms. Despite opposing geostrategic objectives, the establishment of reliable communications channels between the US and China should remain a priority to prevent accidental escalation to a hot war.

Breitbart: Chinese Defense Minister Rejects Meeting with U.S. Defense Secretary
China rejected a request from U.S. Defense Secretary to meet his Chinese counterpart at a Singapore security forum, despite U.S. efforts. The rejection shows the limits of the tentative rapprochement between the two powers, and China has stated that the U.S. was “seeking to suppress China through all possible means and continue imposing sanctions on Chinese officials, institutions, and companies.” The decision also suggests China is still keeping Austin at arm’s length over areas of tension between the two militaries.
Forbes: Catastrophe Averted? Salvage Work Starts On Decaying Red Sea Tanker But More Funds Needed
The UN-led operation to remove over 1 million barrels of oil from the FSO Safer, a decaying and abandoned tanker off Yemen's Ras Isa peninsula, has finally begun. The tanker has been left since 2015 due to the country's civil war, with its sinking or exploding potentially leading to environmental and humanitarian disasters. The cost of the clean-up operation is estimated at $20 billion, and the UN has warned that any spill could wipe out the livelihoods of 200,000 people. A replacement tanker is waiting in Djibouti, due to travel to the site in June. The operation has a $29 million funding gap that needs to be closed.

Breitbart: Nolte: TN Festival’s ‘Bud Light Stage’ Renamed after Trans Controversy
The distributor of Bud Light requested a local Tennessee music venue change the "Bud Light Stage" name to the "Ultra Stage" prior to the Dylan Mulvaney debacle. The Bud Light name became toxic after the company partnered with Mulvaney, a cross-dresser who identifies as a woman. The change came after sales collapsed by 17% in April and another 29.5% over the week ending on May 20th. The festival claims the change request was made last year, but many do not believe this and it could have resulted in jokes from musicians that would have hurt the brand. Bud Light has become a national joke and no one wants to be associated with the divisive brand.
Breitbart: Hagerty: 'I'm Deeply Concerned' About Debt Ceiling Deal
Senator Bill Hagerty is concerned about the debt ceiling agreement reached between House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Joe Biden, citing Democrat spending and national security concerns. He stated that the deal needs serious cuts, and although it's better than a blank check, there's a lot more to be dug into. The House currently has the bill and will vote on it on Wednesday night after the market has closed.
Foreign Policy: The Debt Ceiling Deal Highlights America's Warped Priorities
The struggle between Democrats and Republicans over raising the debt ceiling is the most important global issue at the moment. A default would cause significant damage to the US and global economy, affecting the stock market, Social Security, and Europe, among others. The compromise solution reached by President Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is worrisome, as it includes cuts to the Internal Revenue Service and prioritizes military spending over the fight against climate change. The global south would be among the biggest victims of a US default crisis.

Kershaw, who is open about his faith and involvement in charitable activities, made it clear that he disagreed with the management's decision to invite the group, citing his opposition to mockery of religion. He called a players-only meeting and consulted with his wife before making the decision to show support for Christianity instead of boycotting the game. Kershaw's decision has been met with criticism from progressives in Los Angeles.

The Imaginative Conservative: Rimsky-Korsakov's Magical "Scheherazade"
Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade is a symphonic suite that tells the story from the medieval Arabic collection, 1001 Nights, about a storyteller who tells the Sultan a story a night for 1001 nights to save her life and the lives of others. The composer, Rimsky-Korsakov, was a member of "The Five," a group of Russian composers who rejected classical compositions in favour of "Russian" classical music, imbued with nationalist identity. Though he had no formal training, he was hired as a professor of musical composition, harmony, and orchestration at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, and his love for opera and talent for storytelling through music powered his music-making for the rest of his life.
