The Epoch Times: US Venture Capital Firms, Financial Firms Should Stop Backing Red China
US Venture Capital Firms, Financial Firms Should Stop Backing Red China
Chinese tech startups are experiencing a decline in international funding. This decrease is due to various factors like pandemic restrictions, Communist party crackdowns, geopolitical concerns, macroeconomic reasons amongst other reasons. In 2022, $70 billion was released as venture funding into China's tech startups; this is the lowest since 2017, with 49 percent less value and 17 percent less volume compared to 2021. Many U.S. private equity and venture capital firms have holdings in China, but with the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and pending restrictions on U.S. investors funding Chinese projects on certain technologies, the squeeze on new funding perspectives remains uncertain.

The Epoch Times: 8 Chinese Firms in Taiwan Suspected of Stealing Technology, Talent Poaching
8 Chinese Firms in Taiwan Suspected of Stealing Technology, Talent Poaching
Taiwanese authorities have arrested 49 individuals for questioning in their crackdown on illegal tech talent poaching by eight Chinese companies operating in Taiwan. The companies allegedly set up offices under the guise of firms backed by foreign or Taiwanese investors while illegally hiring Taiwanese IT staff and luring Taiwanese engineers with high salaries to obtain trade secrets. As China requires chip expertise, Taiwan's chip manufacturing industry is critical to strategic assets of the United States, which outsources much of its chip manufacturing to Taiwan.

The Epoch Times: Australian Households Spend Record Levels of Income on Rent
Australian Households Spend Record Levels of Income on Rent
Rent in Australia has reached record highs, causing households without their own residence to spend almost a third of their income on rent. The ANZ Bank and data real estate provider CoreLogic attributed this to supply constraints and increased demand due to immigrants returning to the country. The report found that low-income families were most affected, with the poorest 25% of households spending 51.6% of their earnings on rent. A decline in social housing stock, a slowdown in construction, and higher interest rates have all contributed to the issue, but the government has been called upon to invest in social housing as a solution.

Forbes: The Legal Industry Is Not Prepared For Career Diversification— Why That Matters And Where To Look For Guidance
The Legal Industry Is Not Prepared For Career Diversification— Why That Matters And Where To Look For Guidance
The speed, breadth, and interconnectivity of change requires businesses to reimagine their organizational structure, economic model, technology, talent, and supply chain from a customer perspective. Many positions will be altered or eliminated, replaced by roles that require different skills, mindsets, experience, and agility. The digital journey requires adaptation not only from leadership but also from the workforce. ( )

The legal industry must adapt to survive. Lawyers must engage in diversified roles that leverage skills from one job, acquiring new ones, then synthesizing and applying them across different roles throughout their career. That requires upskilling, collaboration, tech and data-literacy, authenticity, a “we” more than “me mindset,” inquisitiveness, initiative, and lifelong learning. Legal professionals that acquire these skills will be well positioned to transition to new roles, sectors and diversified careers. ( )

The Epoch Times: Remembering Veterans Takes Front and Center on Memorial Day in Arizona Community
Remembering Veterans Takes Front and Center on Memorial Day in Arizona Community
American Legion Post 57 in Ash Fork, Arizona, held a Memorial Day ceremony where veterans were honored. The vice-commander, James A. Foster Jr., worries that people have lost sight of the true purpose of the holiday and that it has turned into just another day off work. They believe consumerism has co-opted Memorial Day to the extent that few people appreciate what veterans have done for their country. Visitors to Ash Fork Settlers Cemetery paid their respects, but many others across America were busy with their outdoor barbecues. The founders of Operation: Transition Outside the Wire suggested that school systems do more to honor and sacrifice when teaching about the vital role of veterans in defending freedoms. They believe sharing these stories keeps the memories of their contributions alive in the hope of inspiring others to create better communities or nations in the future. ( )

Forbes: FC Barcelona ‘Not An Option’ For Lionel Messi, Whose Decision On Future Is Reportedly Imminent
FC Barcelona ‘Not An Option’ For Lionel Messi, Whose Decision On Future Is Reportedly Imminent
Lionel Messi is not considering a return to FC Barcelona, despite recent speculation. He is a free agent from June 30 and has several offers on the table, including a lucrative one from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Premier League clubs have also expressed interest in the Argentine. Barca's financial struggles and inability to make a formal offer have made them an unviable option. If Messi does not return to Barca, the club stands to miss out on €230 million a year from his presence, as projected by an internal report, and will also struggle to offset predicted losses when they move to Montjuic Stadium in 2023/2024.
