The Epoch Times: 'Money Talks': Motorsport Legend Says Business Support for The Voice Meant to Appease Government
Motorsport legend Larry Perkins criticizes sporting organizers for backing Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's push for The Voice, which includes a change to Australia's Constitution and will embed a near-permanent advisory body into the government. Perkins suggests organizers are only supporting the move for business opportunities with the government. Perkins supports holding a referendum, but sporting organizers should not take sides in the debate. The move has garnered support from 21 Australian sporting leagues, ranging from the Australian Football League to Wheelchair Rugby League Australia. The support has been criticized as crony capitalism, whereby large organizations thrive through collusion with the political class.

The Epoch Times: Ban on Panhandling, Loitering on Alabama Roads Officially Signed into Law
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has approved a bill that bans panhandling and loitering on specific state roads and highways, with violators facing class C misdemeanor charges and even imprisonment for repeated violations. The bill’s sponsor, State Rep. Reed Ingram of Montgomery, has emphasized that law enforcement officials will have discretion in dealing with offenders, providing warnings or transport to shelters where applicable. The legislation is seen by some as a way to address public safety concerns but has raised concerns among advocates for the homeless community. Critics argue that the law could potentially criminalize homelessness.

The Epoch Times: Japan Remerges From 30 Years of Economic Malaise
Global chip makers are expanding their operations in Japan as the East Asian nation's economy recovers from a 30-year low. In May, foreign investors were net buyers of Japanese stocks for seven consecutive weeks, totaling over $20.3bn. Japan's market value has surged by about $518bn since its low on Jan. 5. Since the stock market has risen, global chip makers have decided to expand their operations in Japan; ahead of the G-7 summit, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida met with the heads of the world's seven largest semiconductor companies.
Japan's economic recovery has surprised the world, reviving a nation that had been described as "sleeping for 30 years." American investor Warren Buffett has been described as instrumental in Japan's economic recovery after his investment group, Berkshire Hathaway, spent $6bn on five Japanese companies in August 2020 and added about $2.4bn in additional stock in November. The five Japanese business houses that Buffett bought were Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Sumitomo, and Itsuchu. In 2022, Japan's cabinet approved a record annual budget, including a 20 percent jump in the military budget to $55 billion, with the main purpose of countering an increasingly assertive China and an unpredictable North Korea.

A new report by the Falun Dafa Information Center has found that the Chinese regime has exported its ultra-leftist suppression of religions to U.S. universities through defamatory materials in college textbooks. The report entitled "Surveillance, Slander, and Censorship" revealed that at least 10 universities including Yale University, Brown University, the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan, and Wellesley College, use curriculum materials for a Chinese language course that contained defamatory information about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline heavily persecuted in communist China. The report also found that Falun Gong adherents at US universities feel negative reactions and stigma from Chinese students or faculty members, similar to their experiences in China.
