Newsbusters: Why the White House Correspondents' Association Ripped Into Joe Biden This Weekend
White House Correspondents' Association pushed for a briefing on high stakes debt ceiling negotiations but the White House refused despite intense interest. WHCA president, Tamara Keith, issued a statement saying the public deserves to see them answer questions, but it's odd that it wasn't posted on their website or social media accounts. Most White House reporters are Biden voters and may have felt safe to complain about Biden being kept away from the microphone. The president did speak with reporters for less than five minutes after the deal was reached.

The Epoch Times: South Korea Forms Diplomatic Relations With Niue
South Korea established formal diplomatic ties with Niue, the last Pacific Island nation with whom South Korea did not have diplomatic connections. This move was to expand South Korea’s diplomatic footprint in the Pacific region, and as part of its Indo-Pacific strategy to establish a fair and trust-based relationship with Pacific Island countries. New Zealand, as part of its obligations to its constituent realm, is to provide Niue with economic aid and assistance in areas of foreign affairs, defense and security, should Niue request it.
South Korean President, Yoon Suk-yeol met with leaders from five other Pacific island nations, Kiribati, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea, on enhancing collaboration, as part of the Korea-Pacific Leaders’ Summit held in Seoul. The summit was the first to be hosted by South Korea as it seeks to boost engagement with Pacific nations and build a "free, peaceful, and prosperous" region built on a rules-based order. The Pacific region has attracted geopolitical rivalry between the US and China, with Beijing signing a security pact with the Solomon Islands last year, causing concern among other nations, and the US and Papua New Guinea just signed a defense cooperation agreement to push back against China's influence.

The Epoch Times: Iowa Governor Signs Bill to Loosen Child Labor Laws
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill that loosens child labor laws, allowing under 18-year-olds to work longer hours on school nights and in expanded roles, including serving alcohol in bars and restaurants. Child welfare advocates worry the measures represent a coordinated push to scale back hard-won protections for minors. Democrats argued that easing the rules would put teens in harm’s way and distract them from school and extracurricular activities, while the bill’s backers maintained that it would provide greater job opportunities.
The new law allows 14- and 15-year-olds to work two additional hours per day when school is in session, from four to six hours. They are also able to work until 9 p.m. during most of the year and until 11 p.m. from June 1 to Labor Day, two hours later than previously allowed. Sixteen- and 17-year-olds are now permitted to work the same hours as an adult. Iowa joins 20 other states in providing “tailored, common sense labor provisions” that let minors develop skills in the workforce. The job market is currently one of the tightest since World War II.

National Review: The Corner: Alumni Groups Need to Join the Fight Against DEI
The spread of "diversity, equity, and inclusion" (DEI) ideology in American higher education is leading to highly indoctrinated students. Some alumni are putting pressure on universities to stop the growth of DEI and reclaim colleges and universities for true education. Public universities have been more likely to move away from DEI policies, while private schools are more entrenched and not susceptible to political pressure. Alumni groups should get involved by pressuring schools to stop attacking free speech and withholding donations. Eradicating DEI from higher education is vital to securing academic freedom.

Forbes: Fifty Years Ago, Braves Became First Team With Trio Of 40-Homer Men
In 1973, Chicks may have dug the long ball, but the long ball wasn’t easy to produce. Three Atlanta Braves slugged their way into the record books with simultaneous 40-homer seasons. The feat has only been repeated once by the Colorado Rockies. The financial rewards for hitting those homers were different during these different times.
Hank Aaron, their most prolific home run hitter, was 39 in 1973 and already dogged by a myriad of annoying injuries. Two teammates managed to hit more – Darrell Evans and Davey Johnson. Twenty-three years after the Braves, three teammates from the Colorado Rockies joined them. Although the three sets of 30-30-30 players enjoyed their accomplishments, they were not rewarded financially. It's been over 25 years since any team has had three 40-homer hitters in any season.

Liberty Nation: Is the Debt Ceiling Drama Finally Over?
President Biden and House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy announced the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which would raise the debt limit by $4 trillion, suspend it through January 2025, and make other financial provisions. Many conservatives believe that McCarthy failed to gain much of anything in the deal, and some Republicans and progressive Democrats have expressed their dismay over the legislation, though it is expected to pass. The Fiscal Responsibility Act sees tighter work requirements for adults receiving food stamps, time limits, and expanded exemptions for certain groups, such as veterans and former foster youth.
