The Epoch Times: NTD Good Morning (May 29): House Freedom Caucus Resists Debt Limit Deal; Trump Condemns Paxton Impeachment
A debt limit deal has been reached, but it faces resistance from House Freedom Caucus. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's impeachment is causing backlash from Donald Trump and other conservatives. The surgeon general discusses the epidemic of loneliness and its effects on health.
American Thinker: Trump and Republican unity
Ronna McDaniel calls for Republican unity to "Beat Biden," but fails to support the re-election of Donald Trump. McDaniel's call for unity is weak, and supporting Trump should be the goal for restoration.
Rep. Bob Good endorses DeSantis for president, while McDaniel should have pointed out that Trump has shown strength one hundred times greater than any other Republican. McDaniel fails to urge Republicans to rally around Trump, who is besieged by prosecutors that weaponized the judicial system.
Fox News: Republicans win on the debt ceiling: Here's why House GOP should support deal
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Joe Biden have struck a historic deal aimed at shifting government towards common sense and conservatism. The agreement is seen as an important first step towards creating a smaller government, lower taxes, less regulation, economic growth, prosperity, and more take-home pay. This will also help to strengthen Social Security and Medicare. The deal was made in the mold of the slow, step-by-step approach that saw the GOP gradually move government back towards conservatism in 1995, and it will be followed by further steps towards conservatism. The contract with America began a process of reducing bureaucracy, moving from welfare to work, and creating budget changes, all of which led to a time of prosperity in the '90s.

A senior executive at Target, Carlos Saavedra, is also a treasurer at GLSEN, a controversial K-12 advocacy organization that focuses on integrating gender ideology at all levels of K-12 schools. GLSEN provides sexually explicit books to schools for free and works to keep parents in the dark about their child's in-school gender transition. Target provides annual donations to GLSEN, which has amounted to at least $2.1 million, and has been criticized for its LGBTQ Pride merchandise as well as its partnership with Abprallen, a U.K.-based brand featuring occult imagery and messages like "Satan respects pronouns" on brand apparel.
Newsbusters: PBS's Woodruff Talks Reparations, Chides Pushback Against Critical Race Theory
Judy Woodruff travels to Tulsa to discuss reparations for victims of the 1921 Tulsa race massacre, where a mob of white men killed Black residents and destroyed their community. Woodruff also criticizes Republican state lawmakers for passing laws that restrict how American history, particularly institutional racism and its legacy, can be taught in public schools. However, Woodruff does not challenge demands for cash and land reparations or unpack phrases like "implicit bias training," and engages in a heated interview with a local mother and founder of the Tulsa chapter of Moms for Liberty, a parents’ rights group opposed to critical race theory in schools.
The Epoch Times: Trans Activist Bullies and the Intimidation of Biological Women
UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Alsalem, has released a statement calling for an end to the attacks on biological women. She expressed concern about the escalation of intimidation and threats against women and girls and highlighted the forms of reprisals against them including censorship, loss of employment opportunities, deplatforming, and threats of legal action. She also criticised the blanket censorship used to silence those questioning the trans movement and called on law enforcement officers to protect lawful gatherings for women. Alsalem finished her statement by discussing the tactic of equating critics of the trans movement with transphobia and Nazism, which aims to shame women into silence and incite hatred against them.

Forbes: China Cyberattacked The US. Corporations Are On The Front Lines.
China-sponsored group, Volt Typhoon, has allegedly cyberattacked the US territory of Guam, breaching both civilian and military computer networks. The attack was reported to Microsoft and Five Eyes intelligence-sharing group by which, analyzing with "moderate confidence," concluded that Volt Typhoon's capabilities could lead to future cyber threats against communication infrastructure vital to the US. China has denied the attack, which could escalate to indiscriminate exploitation during armed conflict, putting civilians at risk of unnecessary suffering and violating the law of war's principle of distinction.
Guam's military and strategic significance to the US Defense Architecture involving the Guam Defense System might urge China to target its critical infrastructure, which has resulted in undermining the law of war and put civilians at risk of ancillary suffering. Such "dual-use" objects and targeting civilian objects are forbidden by the principle of distinction within the law of war. Microsoft officials and US authorities have raised an alarm before the exact moment of hostilities between China and the US, which may arise in the future. Continuing cooperation between corporations and the government remains critical to protecting civilians, with public-private partnerships becoming crucial for national security.
The Epoch Times: Graham Criticizes Defense Spending in Debt Ceiling Deal: ‘Biggest Winner of Biden Defense Budget Is China'
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has warned House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) that if the U.S. adopts President Joe Biden’s defense budget, as proposed in the tentative debt ceiling deal, China will be the biggest winner. The debt ceiling agreement would cap defense funding at $886 billion in 2024, which is below the current rate of inflation and less than the current size of the US Navy. Graham argues that the Biden defense budget makes it even worse for US overmatch with China, and says that adopting it would be a great disservice to the party of former President Ronald Reagan. He warns that sending him the Biden defense budget to the US Senate and declaring it fully funds the military would result in a hard time for him.
Graham was also asked to comment on how the potential US military supply for a notional battle with China over Taiwan would be managed. Graham replied that Ukraine’s consumption of US-supplied material is outstripping the capacity of American defense firms to replenish it, and that the US defense-industrial base is unprepared for a battle with China over Taiwan. He called for more defense spending, claiming that reducing defense spending at a time when more is needed and when munitions are running low is a bad idea. He argued that helping Ukraine defeat Putin and concluding the conflict on favorable terms would make China less likely to invade Taiwan.

The Epoch Times: Oil Steady After US Debt Deal but Rate Hike Worries Linger
Oil prices stabilize after US leaders reach a debt ceiling deal, easing concerns about a default. Brent crude futures rose by 0.2% to $77.09 a barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude was up by 0.3% to $72.88 a barrel. Analysts believe the provisional debt deal has relieved the markets, providing a boost for commodities, but caution that the uplift in oil prices may be short-lived due to the possibility of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike in June. The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, including Russia, are set to meet on 4 June. The focus is on further decisions on their oil output with the Saudi Energy Minister cautioning short-sellers not to bet on falling oil prices.
The Epoch Times: Dollar Nudges Lower as US Debt Ceiling Deal Dents Safe-Haven Appeal
The dollar fell from six-month highs against the yen after U.S. President Joe Biden finalized a budget agreement to suspend the $31.4 trillion debt ceiling until Jan. 1, 2025. The deal lifted risk appetite across world markets but focus will quickly turn to getting agreement from both the House and Senate by June 5. The euro was down just 0.14 percent at $1.0717, showing little immediate reaction to news of a snap election in Spain. The Aussie rose 0.3 percent to $0.6539 and the kiwi edged 0.2 percent higher to $0.6058 on upbeat world sentiment. The dollar was on course for a monthly gain of about 3 percent against the Japanese currency.
The Epoch Times: European Shares Lack Momentum After Debt Ceiling Deal
European stock indexes slip while Wall Street futures remain positive after U.S. debt ceiling deal reached between President Joe Biden and top congressional Republican Kevin McCarthy. Deal expected to only provide short-term relief for markets as worries about inflation and rate increases linger. Asian stocks mostly rose, with Tokyo’s Nikkei surging to a 33-year high, but Chinese stocks fell due to concerns about economic slowdown. American Thinker: A commander-in-chief honors the fallen
Abraham Lincoln's famous speech, delivered in the midst of the Civil War, reflects on the sacrifices made by soldiers for the cause of preserving the United States as a nation dedicated to liberty and equality. He notes that while the world may forget what is said here, it can never forget what they did here. The living must be dedicated to the unfinished work of preserving freedom and justice for all.
The author reflects on Lincoln's speech and notes that even today, America is engaged in its own civil war, fighting for liberty and equality against those who seek to impose authoritarian equity. The sacrifices of soldiers who fought to preserve freedom must be honored through continued dedication to building a nation that affords the freedom to pursue happiness.

Fox News: Questions face family that claimed they adopted adult ‘masquerading’ as 6-year-old: lawyer
The Barnetts adopted Natalia Grace, a child from Ukraine with a rare form of dwarfism who they thought was six years old, but later questioned if she was actually an adult who was scamming them. The parents allegedly witnessed violent behavior, including hoarding knives in her room, urinating on her adoptive siblings, and even allegedly trying to kill her adoptive mom with Pledge cleaning solution. The case was the topic of the three-part Investigation Discovery documentary called "The Curious Case Of Natalia Grace," which has raised questions about whether Natalia was actually a child or an adult woman.
Beth Karas, a featured attorney in the documentary, pointed out that there was evidence proving that Natalia was really a child because her biological mother in Ukraine said she was born in the early 2000s and a doctor determined she was still growing after moving to the U.S. Regardless of her age, Natalia didn’t have the skills to live on her own, and she was not put in an apartment that was modified for her disability, making charges of neglect of a dependent brought against the adoptive parents, Michael and Kristine Barnett in 2019, which led to their arrests after an investigation. In 2022, Michael was found not guilty, and in March 2023, Kristine had all eight counts of charges against her dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Forbes: Karim Benzema’s Real Madrid Future Unclear Amid $107 Million/Year Offer From Saudi Arabia - Reports
Real Madrid's Karim Benzema has reportedly been offered a two-year contract worth €200m ($214m) to join a Saudi Arabian football club and become the face of the country's 2030 World Cup bid. However, there is uncertainty over the French forward's future at Real Madrid, as he has allegedly failed to meet expectations in his off-field responsibilities as club captain and his fitness has been questioned following his exclusion from the France squad at the World Cup. While Benzema has agreed a contract extension to 2024, this has not been officially confirmed by the club.
Forbes: Luton Town’s Promotion Was Badly Needed By The Premier League
Luton Town's stadium, Kenilworth Road, is a throwback to a bygone era and stands out from every other stadium in the Premier League. Despite social media posts highlighting its modest surroundings, the club's chief executive, Gary Sweet, sees it as a victory for hard work and guile, which is an important narrative for a division where old-school stories are declining. Luton Town's ascent to the Premier League is a valuable fairy tale and a unique and entertaining point of difference in the league.
English soccer's mythology of anyone being able to win is exemplified by the elevation of Luton Town to the top flight, which is nothing short of remarkable. The fairy tale of hard-working, unfashionable clubs making it to the Premier League is becoming increasingly rare in an era of 'project' clubs, built on sporting principles and a strategic approach. Having a Luton Town in the Premier League, even if for one season, is an important reminder that the dream of promotion is still alive, despite financial polarisation.

The Epoch Times: Miner finds grapefruit-sized fur ball now deemed a ‘perfectly preserved’ 30,000-year-old squirrel
A gold miner in Yukon found a grapefruit-sized clump which turned out to be a 30,000-year-old mummified Arctic ground squirrel from the Ice Age. Paleontologists are currently getting it ready for public display in the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre, revealing that arctic ground squirrel remains from the Ice Age are common finds in the Klondike goldfields, but finding a whole preserved one like this is extremely rare. The preserved squirrel was examined by a veterinarian, who conducted X-ray scans on the tiny bundle, and the skeleton was in great condition showing no signs of calcium leakage.
