The Epoch Times: Land-Use Protester Escapes China for Fear of Being 'Disappeared'
Land-Use Protester Escapes China for Fear of Being 'Disappeared'
He Yu, a Chinese agriculturalist from Gansu province, fled to the US after he was deprived of his right to reclaim land and put heavily in debt by hired thugs. He had attempted to cultivate a 659-acre plot of rough land his wife's family had leased since the mid-1980s in defiance of official policy, but he broke into conflict in 2015 with his local village committee when they demanded he pay for the land at a rate of 1,000 yuan per mu. After petitioning different authorities for help, he said he realised he was being kicked around like a football and that there was effectively no law in China. He became worried that he could be "disappeared" at any moment by the local authorities, prompting him to escape China.

Spectator USA: Blink and you’ll miss this libertarian moment
Blink and you’ll miss this libertarian moment
The libertarian moment in American politics is short-lived, often declared but rarely fully realized. While there are signs of a libertarian trend, particularly on social issues, crime has become a major obstacle to criminal justice reform, and cancel culture stifles individual liberty. The Republican Party has also shifted towards a more populist, big-government approach, and government spending remains unpopular, even as the national debt grows. It remains to be seen what exactly libertarianism looks like in this national moment.

PJ Media: Uganda Passes 'Anti-Gay' Law, Western NGOs and Governments Threaten Sanctions
Uganda Passes 'Anti-Gay' Law, Western NGOs and Governments Threaten Sanctions
Uganda has passed an "anti-gay" bill which criminalizes homosexuality with life imprisonment and the death penalty for "aggravated cases." The legislation has faced backlash from the US, with President Joe Biden describing it as a "tragic violation of universal human rights." However, Uganda is putting national sovereignty over foreign aid and is facing down international pressure to repeal the legislation. The Western corporate state media is frustrated that its LGBTQ+ social engineering has failed to produce the intended results, pushing Uganda in the opposite direction. This phenomenon is branded as new-age neo-colonialism, with the West imposing its gender ideology on countries like Uganda.

The Imaginative Conservative: Maritain, Brann, & Raphael: Seeking Bridges to Beauty in Art
Maritain, Brann, & Raphael: Seeking Bridges to Beauty in Art
Beauty is found in art when there is connectedness to something beyond novelty and originality. This connectedness must exist between the artist and the source of what inspires the particular medium of art. Beauty renders joy derived from the object that is beautiful, flowing from its inherent value. Driven by the search for originality, individuals rebel against past intellectual patrimony. Jacques Maritain provides a tested definition of beauty, located in the appreciation of disinterested thought. Beauty exists as a certain excellence or perfection in the proportion of things to the mind. Its splendor shines forth, making something intelligible.

The Presence Of Drugs In Party Scene Increased Over A Five-Year Span
Seizures of the party drug ketamine in the US have risen by 349%, according to a study published in JAMA Psychiatry. Researchers warn that the increase in recreational use of the hallucinogenic drug could have dangerous consequences, as ketamine, originally a horse tranquilizer, is often cut with more harmful substances. The weight of ketamine seized rose from 127 pounds in 2017 to around 1,550 pounds in 2022. With seizures primarily concentrated in Tennessee, Florida and California, the study raises questions about the drug's usage across the US.
