American Thinker: The Nanny State Stains a Deck
The growth of a regulatory state has become increasingly intrusive, and rarely do politicians campaign on such issues. State-level "low-VOC" regulations have resulted in the banning of certain products, such as oil deck stains, forcing consumers into potentially costly alternatives. Candidates don't campaign on regulatory issues, and voters don't expect to be subject to such things if their candidate is elected. The regulatory state has robbed us of our quality of life and the ability to make policy at the ballot box.
American Thinker: How the Democrats are Destroying Large Cities
Democratic urban rule is expanding into traditionally conservative areas, leading to a lack of political competition and policy innovation. However, the woke direction of Democratic urban rule is causing chaos with defunding the police and abolishing gender identities, among other issues. Despite the concern, no alternative is offered. Demographic changes, including the replacement of white ethnic families with younger professionals professing woke politics and exhibiting woke lifestyles, are contributing to the shift in urban politics. An exodus to areas more congenial to traditional bourgeois Christian society is likely to accelerate.

Fox News: Female athletes are retiring after competing against biological men, track champion warns: 'It's devastating'
Track and field champion Selina Soule is urging women to stand up for fairness in female athletics ahead of a legal battle in Connecticut. Soule is appealing a state ruling that allows transgender athletes to participate in sports consistent with their preferred gender. Soule alleges that the policy allowing biological males to compete against women violates Title IX. Fellow athlete Hannah Arensman, a national cyclocross champion who retired after losing to a transgender competitor in last season's women's championships, also criticized the policy and announced her own retirement. Some states are moving to ban transgender student athletes from participating according to their gender identity.

Foreign Policy: Why the World’s Deadliest Wars Go Unreported
Journalist Anjan Sundaram reveals the limitations of international news systems in covering conflicts in his new book, Breakup: A Marriage in Wartime. Sundaram recounts his experiences reporting from war-torn locations in Central African Republic and Congo and highlights the difficulties in getting coverage from such areas due to the structure of global news. He notes that a lack of interest in faraway places and western-centric coverage has led to gaps in reporting, leaving millions to die in the world’s deadliest wars undocumented. Sundaram calls for a reversal of colonial ways of producing and delivering international news and proposes greater humility and openness to blind spots in the Western news system to enable more freelance reporters access to publication.

American Thinker: Building a Monument the Fallen Deserve
On Memorial Day, we must remember and honor the fallen soldiers and the sacrifices they made. We must also honor the families and loved ones left behind who continue to make sacrifices every day. Politicians and personalities must encourage Americans to drink from the fountain of character that these heroes embody and to follow in their paths.
Fox News: 'Duck Dynasty's' Willie Robertson: Memorial Day is about ‘remembering our fallen soldiers’
Willie Robertson of "Duck Dynasty" remembers fallen soldiers on Memorial Day. He says that the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the country should never be forgotten and their actions were a representation of what is seen in the Gospel. He also adds that their freedom was paid for by "love, and country, which is people."
In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Robertson explains that his faith plays a significant role in his life and that "the story of Jesus resonates" with many people because it is about sacrifice. Robertson and his wife have been open about their Christian faith since their time on "Duck Dynasty" and have passed it down to their six children. They have recently wrapped production on a movie about Willie's father's journey to finding Jesus and committing to a life of faith.
Fox News: No new service members added to Army memorial wall for first time since 9/11
No new names were added to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) memorial wall for the first time since 9/11. The wall commemorates 1,242 soldiers who have died in combat, 377 of whom were added since 2001. Nobody from the command died since the last time a name was added, a moment of relief for families.
Wendall Pelham, a Gold Star father, expressed his gratitude that no family had received a call informing them of their loved one's death this year. Pelham lost his son in 2014 and reflected on the fact that the special operations community has always stayed true to the commitment that his son's sacrifice would never be forgotten. In anticipation of Memorial Day weekend, Pelham stressed the importance of reflecting on why the holiday exists: to honor those who gave their last sacrifice for the country.
Fox News: I truly understood Memorial Day when I became part of this Gold Star family
Valerie Crescenz, a retired teacher, reflects on how Memorial Day became personal for her after marrying into a Gold Star family. Her husband’s brother, Michael Crescenz, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor after sacrificing himself to save his fellow soldiers in Vietnam. The family grieved privately, but Joe Crescenz was finally able to come to terms with his brother’s death by getting a degree in pastoral counseling and becoming involved in veterans’ groups. Valerie stresses the importance of remembering the individual faces and names of those who have died in service to the country on Memorial Day.
