The Economist: Spain’s prime minister gambles on a snap general election
Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has called for snap general elections following a drubbing in local polls against the conservative opposition. The two parties must now look to their flanks as the hard-right Vox is making gains and the coalition partner to the Socialists, Podemos, was pummelled. Meanwhile, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been re-elected, tarnishing the country's democratic efforts, while militias with links to Ukrainian military and far-right groups are raiding Russia's Belgorod region.

While Black voters largely support reparations, support among Hispanics was 39% and 33% among Asians, according to polling from the Pew Research Center.

Front Page Magazine: Memorial Day in a Divided Nation
Memorial Day has lost its original meaning of national reunification after the Civil War. Leftists are tearing down Confederate memorials and cemeteries, dividing the country. The solution is mutual respect for former enemies, as demonstrated by the mothers and wives who decorated the graves of their fallen sons and husbands, including those of the enemy. Mutual respect is essential for coexistence and avoiding civil war. Victory demands conviction, but rebuilding requires casting aside the conviction of superiority and recognizing enemies as men like us. Mutual respect can avert or be learned from civil war, as demonstrated by the reunification of the nation after the Civil War.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized the new bipartisan debt ceiling agreement, saying that the country was "careening towards bankruptcy" and that the amount of spending allocated in the deal was “massive”. DeSantis expressed his support for the hard-right House Freedom Caucus members, who do not believe that non-military spending should be held flat at 2023 levels, claiming that the government's spending habits have been out of hand since the start of the pandemic, and that budget levels set were "totally inadequate" to tackle the country's economic slump.
