Breitbart: NYC Mayor Eric Adams to Start Housing Border Crossers in Closed Harlem Jail
NYC Mayor Eric Adams plans to transform the closed Lincoln Correctional Center in Harlem into an emergency respite center for border crossers and illegal aliens, as NYC has had to deal with 70,000+ migrants since last year. Governor Hochul authorized the move and praised the arrival of the migrants who she claimed are eager to work for low wages, citing the need for more workers to enter the labor market. The annual cost will be $75 million, but Adams claimed the cost of the migration wave will exceed $4.3 billion, with New Yorkers paying about $5 million daily.

Forbes: NCAA May Get Everything It Wants From Proposed House NIL Bill
The U.S. House of Representatives is set to introduce its first NIL bill in early June, with Florida Rep. Gus Bilirakis' proposed “The Fairness Accountability and Integrity in Representation of College Sports Act” a frontrunner. The legislation seeks to address the confusing landscape of NIL, with the compromise bill hitting on the points the NCAA and its President, Charlie Baker, have been driving home to elected officials. The act covers the parameters of covered compensation, commensurate with market value, for the use of NIL while the student-athlete is enrolled.
The proposed draft addresses transparency and clarity in the deals offered to college athletes, a point that coaches and athletic administrators have been begging for. While it does limit the chances that athletes could be “induced” to attend a particular program or be incentivized to achieve a certain on-field performance metric, it does not address the worth of the athletes themselves. Passed as is, the bill will create a record of who is involved and will place guardrails solely around NIL transactions, with no incentive for Congress to address other issues.

The Epoch Times: Childcare Waitlists Delaying Parents Returning to Work
Parents in Australia are experiencing difficulties returning to work because of long waits for childcare access. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has received over 2,000 responses from families unhappy with expensive fees and long waiting lists, with some parents waiting for more than a year in advance of receiving care. The delays have forced parents to reduce their work hours or delay a return to the workplace, whilst some cited arbitrary or disorganised waitlists and an inability to support children with disabilities as further concerns.
Breitbart: Pollak: 3 Missing Parts of Biden's Antisemitism Strategy -- Israel, Judaism, and Guns
President Biden's new antisemitism strategy is facing criticism for not including extreme criticism of Israel and potentially targeting conservatives. However, the biggest issue with the strategy is that it leaves out the most powerful tool for empowering Jewish communities: a strong US-Israel relationship and positive image of Israel. Moreover, the strategy fails to address the crisis of faith in the US and the cultural baggage of discrimination, abuse, and persecution experienced by Jews on an everyday level. Arming Jewish institutions and encouraging broader expressions of faith are essential to fighting antisemitism.
Red State: Your Tax Dollars at Work: Government Accountability Office Mandates What Employees Can and Can't Say
Government Accountability Office (GAO) employees have been told to avoid using “gendered language” in the workplace in a 3,000+ word memo written by the “chief diversity management officer.” The GAO provides Congress and the public with fact-based, non-partisan information to inform government improvement; the memo's demand for “inclusive language” is inappropriate for this role, and includes guidelines that are considered gobbledygook, such as to use footnotes when the language might be unfamiliar or confusing.

The Federalist Papers: California Losing Again as Largest Home Insurer Shuts Doors to New Applicants for Home or Business Insurance
State Farm Insurance is no longer accepting new applications for homeowners insurance in California due to rising construction costs, catastrophic exposure, and a challenging reinsurance market. California has experienced an average of more than 7,000 wildfires a year over the past five years, and the median price of a single-family home rose by 44% from 2020 to 2022. This change does not impact existing customers or new policies in other areas like car insurance.
The Epoch Times: Amazon to Shut Down China App Store in Further Retreat From Country
Amazon will close its Chinese website and app store on July 17. Observers believe that it signals the U.S. e-commerce giant’s complete retreat from China and the Chinese regime’s further uncoupling from the West. Amazon already shut down its domestic e-commerce marketplace in China in 2019, citing the market dominance of domestic platforms. The closure marks yet another retreat of Western tech giants from China—the world’s second-largest economy.
In recent years, it has become increasingly difficult for foreign businesses to operate in mainland China due to the regime’s draconian COVID-19 restrictions and Beijing’s tightened control of the internet and information. Shi Tao, a U.S.-based China affairs commentator, said that Amazon’s move shows the determination of the leader of China’s ruling Communist Party (CCP), Xi Jinping, to further his policy of secluding China from the international community and uncoupling from the West. Many Western enterprises have withdrawn from the Chinese market for this reason.
