Rauda was also convicted of three counts of attempted murder and five counts of second-degree commercial burglary but was acquitted of seven other attempted-murder charges. Rauda was accused of being involved in multiple other shootings in or near the park, targeting campers and motorists, and breaking into facilities to steal food. The prosecution argued that Rauda had a “pattern of stalking and preying” at Malibu Creek State Park. The defendant's attorney argued that there was reasonable doubt involving the charges against his client, citing the as-yet unidentified male DNA found on cigarette butts near the crime scene, among other pieces of evidence.
