The American Spectator: Maintaining the Balance of Freedom for America’s Good
The Republican nomination of Donald Trump was contentious for conservatives. While many believed urgent times required urgent measures, others viewed choosing a no-holds-barred street fighter as a betrayal of principle. Emergencies can destroy free societies, and the tension between pulling out all the stops and maintaining principles is constant. Lincoln and Churchill are models of leaders who took emergency power when necessary but relinquished it as soon as they could. It is necessary to articulate a real vision of leadership that balances both sides of the tension.

National Review: The Corner: Price Controls: Britain’s Big-Government Conservative Party Strikes Again
Downing Street is considering plans for retailers to introduce price caps on basic food items such as bread and milk to tackle rising costs caused by persistent inflation. The deal with retailers would be akin to an agreement in France where the country's retailers charge the "lowest possible amount" for essential food products, and would amount to the biggest attempt to manage supermarket prices since Edward Heath's wage and price controls in 1973. The proposed scheme is a product of the government's fear of the political damage caused by inflation, but there are concerns that the caps could lead to shortages and harm smaller retailers who cannot absorb the hit to their profits.

Model Ali Tate shares her grandmother's decision to enroll in Canada's medical assistance in dying program on TikTok. Tate's viral TikTok has raised many ethical and moral questions relating to the slippery slope of the medical assistance in dying program, which is the hashtag .

Red State: Disgraceful: Someone's Making Bomb Threats Against Target Stores, Utah LGBTQ+ Activists Quickly Offer Bad Take
Target stores in Ohio and Utah were threatened with bomb attacks via email in the days following protests from LGBTQ+ activists over the chain removing certain products from its shelves. Producer Alec Sopolin from Cleveland TV station WOIO tweeted a screenshot of one of the messages, which appeared to be from someone angry that Target had taken the goods off the display. Five stores in Cleveland received similar messages on the same day, with a total of six stores in the two states receiving threats. The Salt Lake City Police Department disclosed that Target had been working with officers to evaluate any potential danger and said there was "no credible threat". Equality Utah issued a statement condemning the threats and calling on Americans to oppose "extremism and violence".

The American Spectator: Dodgers, Indeed
The author reflects on his lifelong love for the Dodgers, from watching them win the World Series in 1955 to attending games with his wife in 2021. However, he is disappointed by the team's decision to host a Pride Night event featuring the LGBQT+ Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, despite their offensive and degrading behavior towards Christianity. He laments the loss of the team's moral backbone, embodied by former Dodgers executive Branch Rickey who broke the color barrier in baseball and valued conservative values.
