Newsbusters: Cuomo: GOP Debt Position Is ‘Political Terrorism,’ Made Debate ‘Rabid’

He compared it to "political terrorism" and blamed Republicans for making the debate “rabid” since 2011. He criticized the GOP's proposals, but admitted that both sides have done this in the past. Cuomo's anti-Republican rhetoric is dangerous and was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Allegra and Visionworks.

US mortgage rates have hit a six-month high of 7.12%, the highest since 9 November 2022, while loan application volume has declined by 4.6% for the week ending 19 May. Refinance activity has fallen to its lowest level in two months, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), which blamed the decline on borrowers remaining "sensitive to higher rates”. The rise in rates and drop in mortgage applications come amid disappointing home sales, with figures from the National Association of Realtors showing existing-home sales dropping 3.4% from March to 4.28 million units in April.

Roger Waters, Pink Floyd's former bassist, is under investigation by German police for incitement to hatred after wearing a Nazi-like uniform during one of his concerts in Berlin and using a World War II-era submachine gun. The concert included references to victims of deadly police encounters. The investigation was triggered after receiving information from the public, including pictures and videos. Waters has denied allegations of anti-Semitism and claims that his show and costumes are part of a scathing parody or theater, and that he has performed this routine for at least 30 years. The State Security Department at the Berlin State Criminal Police Office initiated the criminal investigation.

National Review: South Carolina Judge Halts Enforcement of State’s Six-Week Abortion Ban
South Carolina's new law banning most abortions at around six weeks has been temporarily blocked by a judge, following a legal challenge from abortion providers. The law, which would have allowed doctors who performed abortions to face felony charges, will be reviewed by the state Supreme Court after the lawsuit from Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, Greenville Women’s Clinic and two physicians. The state Supreme Court issued a ruling earlier this year against a similar 2021 law, after finding that six weeks did not allow enough time for most women to know they were pregnant.

Forbes: New York Giants OTAs Defined By Darren Waller’s Presence, Saquon Barkley’s Absence
Newcomers and rookies have provided a sense of optimism for the New York Giants at OTAs, but Saquon Barkley's contract feud with the team looms. Head coach Brian Daboll and quarterback Daniel Jones deflected Barkley questions and instead focused on building relationships with current players and connecting with new offensive toy, tight end Darren Waller. Waller is a high-IQ player who relishes the challenge of knowing the entire offense and providing value to the team. With Waller in place, fitting Barkley back in when his contract is resolved should be straightforward.

Fox News: Scientists use AI to find drug that kills bacteria responsible for many drug-resistant infections
Using artificial intelligence, MIT and McMaster University researchers have discovered a new antibiotic, abaucin, that can kill the drug-resistant bacteria Acinetobacter baumannii. The one-of-a-kind antibiotic was identified by a machine-learning algorithm, which was trained to recognize whether a chemical compound would inhibit bacterial growth. Researchers then exposed the lab bacteria to nearly 7,500 different chemical compounds in order to determine which ones could inhibit its growth before breaking down the drug's structure. The new drug is expected to be effective against the leading cause of infections in wounded soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, which is also found in many hospitals.

The Epoch Times: Animal Welfare Bill Scrapped as Government Minister Blames 'Scope Creep'
The UK government has abandoned the Kept Animals Bill for animal welfare, due to "scope creep" and exceeding the commitments in the Conservative Party's election manifesto. Environment minister Mark Spencer insisted that the issue of animal welfare would still be tackled, including a permanent ban on exporting live animals. Labour MPs had been trying to add measures to outlaw fox hunting to the bill which could lead to uncomfortable debates. The government insisted the bill was only designed to widen protection for "kept" or domesticated animals and not wild animals.
The RSPCA and the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation have expressed their frustration and disappointment in the government, as they believe this represents a significant setback for animal welfare. The government is still committed to fulfilling its manifesto commitments and plans to introduce measures in the Kept Animals Bill individually during the remainder of this Parliament. They also plan to ban puppy smuggling and to ban the keeping of monkeys and other primates as pets.
