The Epoch Times: Republican North Dakota Governor Expected to Announce 2024 Run
Republican North Dakota Governor Expected to Announce 2024 Run
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum is considering a 2024 presidential bid. Burgum, a former Microsoft executive and McKinsey consultant, has been in office since 2016 and has an estimated net worth of $1.1 billion. He made headlines in 2022 for spending tied to the Dakota Leadership Political Action Committee. Burgum would be the latest addition to a rapidly growing field of presidential candidates, including former President Donald Trump, Sen. Tim Scott, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. A recent poll shows Burgum with only 0.4 percent among Iowa Republican Caucus voters.

ANALYSIS: Why a Growing GOP Field Is Beneficial to Trump
The GOP 2024 presidential field has suddenly expanded with several candidates officially joining the race, including Sen. Tim Scott and Gov. Ron DeSantis. However, former President Donald Trump remains the clear front-runner and many believe the growing field works to his advantage, as it prevents his opposition from forming a single bulwark against him. A crowded primary favors the front-runner, as Reagan proved in 1980 and Trump himself proved in 2016, and the Republicans running in 2024 cannot afford to alienate the pro-Trump base. Some experts believe DeSantis poses a huge threat to Trump, but in a crowded field, it's unclear if any other candidates have a shot at the nomination.

The Epoch Times: DeSantis Presidential Campaign Says It Raised Over $8 Million in First 24-hours
DeSantis Presidential Campaign Says It Raised Over $8 Million in First 24-hours
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced his candidacy for the 2024 US Presidential election and managed to raise $8.2m in the first 24 hours, breaking the previous record of $6.3m that was raised by Joe Biden in 2019. DeSantis' campaign currently has $86m in their political action committee “Friends of Ron DeSantis”, giving him an advantage, for now, over other candidates in money at hand and fundraising. The FEC filings have shown that former President Donald Trump holds a balance of $13.9m in his presidential campaign account, with a combined balance of $32.2m between his campaign account and PAC, Save America.

Although DeSantis is in second place in the Republican polls and the only candidate besides Donald Trump with double-digit support, almost all polls show that twice as many voters would choose the former President over DeSantis. A May 25th FOX News poll showed Trump ahead of DeSantis by 53 to 20 percent, with Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy and Tim Scott all at 4 percent. While a Rasmussen Republican primary poll taken before DeSantis and Scott entered the race found that 17 percent of voters would vote for DeSantis and 62 percent would vote for Trump.

Newsbusters: CNN Pushes the 14th Amendment as an Option to Bypass Congress
CNN Pushes the 14th Amendment as an Option to Bypass Congress
CNN anchor Anderson Cooper interviewed Senator Bernie Sanders about his belief that President Biden should invoke the 14th Amendment to bypass Congress in the debt ceiling negotiation. Despite the questionable constitutionality of such a proposal and Biden's rejection of it as an option, CNN continued to promote the 14th Amendment as a possible solution. Sanders claimed that the President can invoke it to continue paying bills, but such action would require the President to exercise authority only granted to Congress, violating Section 8 of the Constitution. This would upset the government's balance of power and Congress must pass a deal to pay off the United States' debt.

The Epoch Times: ANALYSIS: Politics, Finance Merge as Banks Become Fewer in Number, More Aligned With Government
ANALYSIS: Politics, Finance Merge as Banks Become Fewer in Number, More Aligned With Government
The consolidation of US banks, with an increasing number of mega-banks and a closer working relationship with federal agencies, has led to concerns of systemic risks and limited banking services for smaller communities. Since the 2008 financial crisis, federal regulation has allowed for an ever-smaller number of ever-larger institutions, subjecting them to tighter regulation, higher capital requirements, and various stress tests. Despite the recent failure of regional banks, many believe that consolidation will inevitably continue, and that this brings its own set of challenges, including a heavily concentrated financial system. This consolidation has also led to Wall Street playing a larger role in politics, and venture into political activism.

No Meat? No Problem: Meal Hacks For Times of Inflation
Rising prices of gas, heating, and groceries is making it hard to make ends meet. The cost of meats and offal is increasing, making it harder to get by with just meat.

Great-grandma Sarah Amanda Howard had a cookbook that made the most of scarce resources. Her recipes on Bread & Beer Soup, Barley & Buttermilk Stew, and Fruit & Oats Stew were mostly meatless and surprisingly sumptuous. Her recipe for Rose Jelly was an excellent pick-me-up with warm milk and whiskey.

The Epoch Times: Why California’s Schools Are Losing Their Teachers, Part III
Why California’s Schools Are Losing Their Teachers, Part III
Public schools in San Francisco are failing due to staffing shortages, overworked teachers, and wasteful spending. The district receives $1.1 billion for fiscal year 2022–2023, with 68% allocated for teaching and classroom supplies. However, as much as 20-40% of revenue is wasted on daylong field trips, dance, art, physical education, multicultural education, technology, and social justice discussions at the expense of core curriculum. To save money, the district could eliminate most central office personnel, restore resource teachers to the classroom, and privately contract building maintenance, among other cost-saving measures. By improving academic standards and offering an extended day with higher teacher salaries, public schools could return to a level of excellence similar to San Francisco High School of the Arts.

Fernando Tatis Jr. returned to Major League Baseball after an injury and an 80-game suspension for PEDs.
