Breitbart: Biden's DHS Frees 2.3K Illegal Alien Convicts into U.S. in Five Months
Biden's DHS has released over 2,300 convicted criminals and 2,850 illegal aliens with pending charges into American communities since January causing unnecessary suffering. Congress needs to prevent this and protect lives in the Homeland Security appropriations bill. In total, close to 51,000 illegal aliens were released from ICE custody over the last five months.
Breitbart: Republicans Demand Biden Disclose 'Total Dollar Amount' in Taxpayer Money Funding Illegal Immigration
NGOs are receiving millions in taxpayer-funded grants to facilitate illegal immigration in the United States, according to Reps. Lance Gooden and Jim Jordan. In particular, United Way Worldwide was singled out for its grant funding that provides aid to illegal aliens, as well as little-to-no oversight of such grants by FEMA. This has led to an unsustainable surge in illegal immigration that burdens American taxpayers and ultimately harms law-abiding citizens and immigrants.
The Epoch Times: Texas AG Sues Biden Administration Over App Allowing Immigrants to Register 'Unlawful Crossings'
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the Biden Administration on May 23 over a new asylum rule that he argues encourages immigrants to unlawfully enter the United States through the use of a mobile app. Paxton claims that the app is used to illegally preapprove more foreign aliens to enter the country, and his lawsuit aims to permanently enjoin the rule and prevent it from drawing continued immigration surges at the US-Mexico border. Paxton cites that federal law is clear that those entering the country illegally should be expelled from the United States, and that the app is the Biden administration's attempt to streamline the process of illegal immigration.
Earlier this week, Paxton called for the resignation of Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan, accusing him of being drunk while presiding over proceedings on the House floor on May 19. None of the other lawmakers appeared to question Phelan's behaviour, and his speech seemed normal minutes later. Paxton also requested the Texas House General Investigating Committee to investigate the matter. The speaker's office said Paxton's call for Phelan's resignation was motivated by the House Ethics Committee's investigation of a $3.3 million whistleblower settlement the attorney general reached with four former employees who accused him of corruption. On Thursday, a woman was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety for allegedly starting a dumpster fire outside Paxton's offices on May 23. But the incident sparked some reports speculating about the cause of the fire.

The Epoch Times: Irvine Councilors Debate Over Leaving Orange County Power Authority, Decide to Stay
Despite concerns over the future of the Orange County Power Authority (OCPA), Irvine decided to stay in the agency during their council meeting on May 23. The motion to consider leaving the agency was met with opposition, with Vice Mayor Tammy Kim stating that Irvine needs to "stay consistent." However, critics, including Councilman Larry Agran, called the OCPA a "failing enterprise." The agency has undergone three audits, fired its CEO, and lost two members since its formation in 2020. Other cities, such as Fullerton, have also discussed exiting the agency.
During the same council meeting, Councilman Mike Carroll proposed that Buena Park and Fullerton share some financial responsibility for the agency, which Irvine loaned $7.5 million to upon its launch. The motion failed 3-2. Though Councilwoman Kathleen Treseder is optimistic about the agency's future, there is concern that the issue of leaving or staying will resurface as other cities weigh their options. Buena Park will discuss withdrawal in their June 6 meeting, while Treseder revealed that there will be a discussion to dissolve the agency at an upcoming June board meeting. City staff stated that the agency would need to sell off energy contracts if dissolved, with the possibility of extra funds paying off Irvine's loan. However, Councilman Carroll fears that the issue may resurface, stating that they might have fewer options next time.
Breitbart: McCarthy Holds Line for Deep Spending Cuts, Other Concessions from Democrats in Debt Deal
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is pushing for deep spending cuts and other concessions in exchange for lifting debt ceiling in negotiations with the White House and Senate Democrats. McCarthy is holding out seeking actual cuts to spending levels and the deal is likely to include cuts to President Joe Biden's plans to bring in new IRS agents, caps on future years of discretionary non-military spending, and work requirements on entitlement and welfare programs. Republicans are using their leverage to force the hand of Democrats while public polling shows Congress should only raise the debt ceiling in exchange for spending cuts.
Talks with the White House are moving towards a more positive direction but the deal is not yet struck. Once the deal emerges, it will need to be passed through both chambers and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has told lawmakers to be prepared for the potential debt ceiling deal over Memorial Day weekend. McCarthy will need to seek as many Republican votes as possible and should there be any defectors, Democrats will need to deliver the remaining votes to pass it and then the plan would need to make it through the Democrat-controlled Senate. Even once a deal is announced, it is not a sure thing to get through Congress with hard left-wing Democrats already criticizing the emerging deal.

Victoria's independent schools are facing potential financial struggles and disruption to the education of their students due to the Andrews government's new payroll tax levy, which will remove the payroll tax exemption for high-fee private schools in Victoria. Victoria's peak independent school body has expressed alarm over the tax, and is seeking urgent talks with the government regarding the decision. However, Premier Daniel Andrews has defended the tax, stating that high-fee independent schools have received preferential treatment for a long time and are running like businesses.

The Hill: Doug Mastriano decides against launching Senate bid
Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano has announced that he will not run for US Senate next year, opening the door for Republican candidate David McCormick to go head-to-head with Democrat Bob Casey. Mastriano's decision means McCormick, who ran last year but lost the primary, is expected to secure the nomination. Pennsylvania is expected to be one of the most highly contested and expensive races in 2024.
The Blaze: LinkedIn slaps down presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy's account, claiming he repeatedly posted 'misleading or inaccurate information'
Republican presidential primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy claimed that LinkedIn locked his account and censored him for repeatedly posting material that included "misleading or inaccurate information." LinkedIn listed Ramaswamy's supposed infractions, which included videos where he expressed his views about climate policy and Biden's relationships with China. The company informed Ramaswamy that if he consented to not breach their terms again, they would provide him another opportunity to regain access to his account.
The Federalist Papers: DeSantis Owns Campaign Launch Flub, Launches T-Shirt to Commemorate the Event
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is selling a "DeSantis Breaks Systems" T-shirt on his campaign website, referencing the glitchy Twitter Spaces event that followed his presidential campaign announcement. The shirt lists "the internet," "the deep state," "corporate media," and "woke indoctrination" as systems DeSantis is capable of breaking. Elon Musk, who was scheduled for an interview during the Twitter Spaces event, also poked fun at the technical difficulties. Critics, including former President Donald Trump, took a victory lap, but DeSantis still enjoys significant support in the Republican primary.
Red State: DeSantis Puts 'Failure to Launch' Narrative to Bed With Stunning 24-Hour Haul
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' 2024 campaign debut was met with criticism from the mainstream press, but his campaign quickly gained momentum after raising a record-setting $8.2 million in the first 24 hours, surpassing Joseph R. Biden Jr.'s and Beto O'Rourke's fundraising hauls. The impressive amount was likely contributed by small-dollar donors from around the country, and marks DeSantis as a serious contender for the primary election. The race is still unpredictable, and any certainty regarding its outcome is just speculation at this point .

Breitbart: McCarthy: 'It Is Very Difficult for the Democrats to Agree Not to Spend More'
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) says Democrats find it difficult to agree on spending limits, given their drastic increases over the years. He urges spending less than last year, putting in work requirements, and capping government growth at 1%. He proposes some reasonable items to make America stronger, including cutting red tape for permitting reform. McCarthy also notes that he will not raise taxes and will not pass a clean debt ceiling without negotiations. A responsible government, he insists, should sit down and negotiate.
Newsbusters: Networks Ignore Supreme Court Ruling Against Biden's EPA
The Supreme Court ruled against the Biden administration's EPA and limited its power to regulate wetlands, in a 5-4 vote. However, this is not the whole story as the unanimous 9-0 decision was that an Idaho couple was denied the ability to build on their land. ABC, CBS, and NBC didn't report the news, instead focused on shark attacks and Tina Turner's death. Fox News did briefly mention the victory for private property rights.
Daily Wire: Comer Puts Dollar Amount On Alleged Biden ‘Bribery’ Scheme
Congressional investigators are seeking a record related to a possible $5 million bribe involving President Joe Biden, according to a letter from House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer to FBI Director Christopher Wray. The FD-1023, believed to have been produced by a foreign national seeking a favourable policy outcome, refers to the sum and a date in June 2020. Comer's letter cites whistleblower disclosures that he and Sen. Chuck Grassley have received, and although no particular country is identified, the date mentioned in the FD-1023 coincides with Ukrainian allegations of a corruption. The subpoena deadline has been extended to May 30, with contempt proceedings planned if the form is not produced.

The Epoch Times: LA Nonprofit Giving Meth Pipes to Homeless Sparks Debate Over 'Harm Reduction' Approach
The so-called "harm reduction model" of drug programs is causing controversy in Los Angeles where a nonprofit was spotted handing out meth pipes to addicts. While some believe that providing drug equipment and supervised space to use is saving lives in the homelessness crisis, others think the “tool to go out and get the drug” is harmful. Tony Anthony, a resident of Skid Row, fears funds are more important for some services helping the homeless than solving the root of the problem.

The Epoch Times: Stock Market Today: AI Frenzy Pulls Wall Street Higher Despite DC Debt Woes
Wall Street's surge in AI companies helped boost the Nasdaq composite by 1.7%, while the Dow Jones fell 0.1%. Nvidia's forecast of $11bn in revenue for the quarter succeeded expectations, leading to a 24.4% surge in its stock, which is now worth almost $1tn. The chipmaker stated its customers were excited to invest in AI to impact every business model. Microsoft and Alphabet's parent company, Google, also raised stock prices as their revenue increased. Concerns about an economic crash grew as customers shifted spending away from products like Dollar Tree. For instance, the US Treasury could run out of money by June 1, leading to a possible default. Banks are worried about Congress allowing more borrowing and credit rating drops, which happened in 2011 after a similar occurrence. Fitch warns that risks to creditworthiness may occur if there are no appropriate fiscal compromises soon. The prospect of a global recession looms over a split regarding interest rates between Wall Street and the Federal Reserve as higher interest rates help slow inflation, affect investment, and decrease the need for interest rates.
Breitbart: Pending Home Sales Flat in April
Pending home sales in the US were flat in April compared to the previous month, according to data from the National Association of Realtors. The northeast was the worst performer. The NAR&;s index for pending home sales in the northeast dropped sharply. Pending home sales typically become finalised 45 to 60 days later and are viewed as a leading indicator for the housing market.

Forbes: Presley’s Place At Pittsburgh’s Airport Is A Model To Be Copied
Pittsburgh’s airport has opened Presley's Place, a sensory-sensitive room for families living with autism that has become a model for other airports to follow. Families with sensory-sensitive children can find airport environments overwhelming and Presley’s Place was developed to address that reality, helping families relax before their flight. The room is open 24/7 and also includes a mock-up of a real airplane to make boarding less stressful. With only 3% of children identified as being on the autism spectrum, there is a significant audience for creating more rooms such as this across airports.
Presley’s Place at Pittsburgh’s airport has become a popular room, attracting new travel demand for airlines, as making air travel possible for families living with autism is essential. The World Health Organization estimates that 16% of the global population has some sort of disability. Presley's Place has created an inexpensive and efficient way to tackle the problem that other airports can emulate, making air travel more accessible and comfortable for those who may otherwise find traveling challenging. Michael Swiatek of Avianca airlines has encouraged the airline industry to think of things which are “low cost and high impact,” similar to Presley’s Place.
