Braverman's Small Boats Bill Sparks Backlash in Lords
The UK's Home Secretary's Illegal Migration Bill faced heavy criticism in the Lords, with peers arguing that it undermines the UK's international commitments, particularly regarding human rights, refugees, anti-trafficking, and children's rights. Some peers also raised concerns about the bill's impact on business and the UK's reputation. One Labour peer highlighted the bill's contradiction in relation to international human rights agreements, while an independent crossbench peer argued that it goes against the Refugee Convention. The bill is set to undergo four more stages in the House of Lords.

The Epoch Times: Alabama Lawmakers Advance 'What Is a Woman' Bill Defining Male, Female Sex
Alabama Lawmakers Advance 'What Is a Woman' Bill Defining Male, Female Sex
Alabama lawmakers approved legislation defining "female" as someone with a biological reproductive system that produces eggs and "male" as someone with a reproductive system that fertilizes those eggs. Under the "What is a Woman" Act, "woman" and "girl" would refer to human females while "man" and "boy" would describe human males. Lawmakers argued there are legitimate reasons to differentiate between sexes in areas where there are implications of safety, privacy or biology. The bill now goes to the House floor for a vote, then will need to go to a Senate committee and the full Senate before being signed into law by Gov. Kay Ivey.

Fitch Puts U.S. AAA Credit Rating On 'Negative' Watch—Here's Why It Matters
Fitch warns that the U.S.'s top credit rating could be downgraded due to political "brinkmanship" over the debt ceiling, which could trigger a global selloff. If downgraded, the US would move out of its top tier alongside countries like Germany, Denmark, Canada, Switzerland, Singapore, and Australia, into a new tier that would mean higher borrowing costs for the government, while igniting broader financial turmoil across the board. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has warned the country may be unable to pay its bills as soon as June 1, while President Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have not been able to reach a deal.

TRIGGERED: The Atlantic Cries Elon Musk Turned Twitter Into ‘Right-Wing, Alt-Tech’ Platform
Twitter under Elon Musk is being labeled a "far-right social network" by The Atlantic, which bemoans the platform's evolution from an Orwellian censorship cesspool to a place where conservatives can express opinions openly. Writer Charlie Warzel accuses Musk of advancing the right-wing agenda by allowing more free speech. However, Twitter 2.0 has not become the haven Musk envisioned, with increased censorship noted between Nov. 4 2022 and Mar. 4 2023, which may be a result of old regime staff resisting Musk's vision. The Atlantic, criticized for peddling propaganda, was ratioed on Twitter with over 5,000 comments and 2,200 likes.

DeSantis Reveals Exactly What He'll Do to Christopher Wray if Elected
Potential 2024 Republican nominee Ron DeSantis has vowed to fire FBI Director Christopher Wray on day one of his presidency due to allegations of FBI obstruction and corruption. This comes as the FBI continues to ignore a subpoena for an unclassified FD-1023 form that allegedly provides evidence of a bribery scheme involving Joe Biden. DeSantis made this vow during an interview with Trey Gowdy on Fox News, making it the most definitive pledge by any candidate regarding Wray. The current FBI Director, who has been accused of being as corrupt as his predecessor James Comey, has targeted pro-lifers, Catholics, and obstructed investigations into the Biden family, amongst other allegations. This has resulted in calls for his firing from Republicans and Democrats alike.

Fish and Wildlife Services Direct Funds to Woke Eco-Anxiety Counseling
Federal employees at Fish and Wildlife Services are participating in a progressive training program called Values Journey that promotes social change at the expense of wildlife conservation. Lawmakers are investigating the department for its eco-grief training courses, which cost $4,000 per virtual session and cater to those who experience ecological grief. The Metropolitian Group has been paid $2.5 million to facilitate the Values Journey, while other consulting firms have created therapy programs centered around the George Floyd murder and racial equity and inclusion training for FWS employees. Republican lawmakers are demanding accountability for the taxpayers' money spent on these initiatives and want to ensure the agency is fulfilling its mission to preserve and manage fish, wildlife, plants, and habitats for the American people.

An MEP called on the European Commission to take action on the social syndrome that is impacting tens of thousands of young people. The Commission confirmed it was working on a prevention-oriented approach to mental health that would offer support for both children and young people. The long-term effects of lockdowns on young people are still being assessed.

The Economist: American policing has changed since George Floyd’s murder
American policing has changed since George Floyd’s murder
American policing has undergone changes since George Floyd’s murder, but leftists argue it needs to change further. Police killings have increased since 2020 and, despite promises of reform, many feel police departments have only undergone cosmetic changes. Meanwhile, conservatives argue that policy changes driven by progressive politicians have hamstrung law enforcement, resulting in a rise in violent crime. Big-city departments across the country are facing shortages, with the number of resignations and retirements rising by 18% and 45% respectively from 2020 to 2021. Compounding the problem is that hiring has not kept pace, with the hiring rate declining by 5% from 2020 to 2021.

Fox News: AI will eventually need an international authority, OpenAI leaders say
AI will eventually need an international authority, OpenAI leaders say
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, along with company leaders Greg Brockman and Ilya Sutskever, wrote in a blog post that the artificial intelligence (AI) industry requires a global watchdog to regulate superintelligence. They recommended that there should be coordination among major development efforts, with potential measures including an international authority to inspect systems, conduct audits, test for compliance with safety standards, and place restrictions on deployment of, and the security levels of, the products. As a first step in controlling the AI industry, they believe that companies should voluntarily begin implementing some of the elements that an international authority may require.

The OpenAI group believes that AI could exceed expert skill in most fields within the next decade, creating a high potential for an existential risk should the industry be left unregulated. They hold that even though there are many risks and difficulties inherent in AI technology, the benefits of the industry are too great to ignore. They emphasised that the governance of the most powerful systems must be subject to public oversight, putting those regulations in place to allow AI to benefit people worldwide while reducing existential risk.
