Nikki Haley, 2024 Republican candidate, vows to sign federal abortion ban if elected president

The Epoch Times: EU Seeks Top Court Backing in $14 Billion Tax Fight Against Apple
EU Seeks Top Court Backing in $14 Billion Tax Fight Against Apple
EU regulators have appealed a lower court's ruling and asked the EU's highest court to make Apple pay 13 billion euros ($14.3 billion) in Irish back taxes. The European Commission contended that two Irish tax rulings had allowed Apple to keep its tax burden artificially low and thus gain an unfair advantage. In 2020, the General Court contradicted the Commission's argument, stating that the regulator had not met legal standards to show that Apple had gained an unfair advantage. However, during the recent hearing at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), Paul-John Loewenthal, the Commission's lawyer, stated that the lower court's judgment was "legally flawed.

The Epoch Times: Fitch Warns Continued Partisanship on Debt Ceiling Will Hurt AAA Credit Rating
Fitch Warns Continued Partisanship on Debt Ceiling Will Hurt AAA Credit Rating
The United States' AAA credit rating is at risk of being downgraded due to political deadlock over the debt ceiling. Fitch Ratings placed the US on "rating watch negative" and expressed concerns about brinkmanship in the debt ceiling talks. The US Treasury Department could exhaust its cash to pay bills as early as next week, with disastrous economic effects if it defaults on its debts. Partisanship and failure to address medium-term fiscal challenges are contributing factors to the potential downside risks to the creditworthiness of the US. Both the Treasury and White House press secretary have called for immediate bipartisan action to raise or suspend the debt limit and avoid a manufactured crisis for the economy.

The Epoch Times: Kohl's Reports Surprise Profit in Q1 Helped by Inventory Cuts
Kohl's Reports Surprise Profit in Q1 Helped by Inventory Cuts
Kohl's surprises with a profit for Q1, its financial guidance stays the same and shares rise 11%, all thanks to the department store chain's moves to cut inventory after weak sales. Kohl's hopes to drive long-term sales and earning performance, in the face of a slowdown in consumer spending, particularly in clothing and other non-discretionary items as shoppers wrestle with inflation. Sales performance is struggling across other major department stores, such as Target, and even Home Depot and Lowe's who are cutting sales expectations on weak spending.

White House Condemns China for Micron Ban But Will Keep Communications Open
China's ban on purchases of memory chips from American company Micron is retaliation for a recent G7 statement, according to the White House, which said the measures would not affect talks between Washington and Beijing. China's Cyberspace Administration announced on 21 May that Micron's products had not passed a cyber-security review and would be banned from "critical information infrastructure". The ban only affects some of Micron's sales in China, most of which are used in mobile phones and personal computers, which will not be affected by the move.

The Epoch Times: Human Body's Self-Repair Mechanism Can Help Treat Spike Protein-Induced Brain Injuries: Dr. Paul Marik
Human Body's Self-Repair Mechanism Can Help Treat Spike Protein-Induced Brain Injuries: Dr. Paul Marik
Dr. Paul Marik of Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance claims that spike proteins found in SARS-CoV-2 and mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are causing neurological symptoms in some patients. The lab-assembled mRNA in vaccines stays in the human body longer than the ones from natural infection, where the messenger RNA is destroyed after five days. This makes the mRNA produced through vaccines accumulate, causing a toxic load of spike proteins in patients that can affect every organ system and can cause brain fog, tinnitus, and small nerve neuropathy. Marik suggests that patients embrace the body’s natural self-repairing capabilities through processes like autophagy and intermittent fasting, in addition to getting treated early for COVID-19 or avoiding further shots.

The Epoch Times: Experts Sound Alarm on Sliding National Test Scores
Experts Sound Alarm on Sliding National Test Scores
The Nation’s Report Card for 2022 indicates a further decline in American students' education standards, including in reading, math, history, and civics, with the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbating the situation. Attendees of the Reagan Institute's Summit on Education acknowledged the U.S. has failed to act upon the wake-up call given by the National Commission on Excellence in Education's 1983 report "A Nation at Risk," which warned that America's global influence would be diminished if improvements were not made. Falling test scores in civics are seen as particularly worrying, as a lack of basic knowledge of the country's political structure could have grave consequences for future generations.

'This system is failing': Why this Baltimore teacher left her job to home-school her youngest son
Blanca Tapahuasco, a former Baltimore educator, withdrew her youngest son from public school due to her concerns over politicization in the classroom and low academic rigor. Tapahuasco taught Spanish at a Christian school and witnessed teachers incorporating their political bias into class lessons. She also heard about confusion resulting from lessons on sexual orientation in families, and worried that adult topics and bias were infiltrating core academic subjects. After virtual learning during the COVID-19 pandemic confirmed her fears, Tapahuasco quit teaching to home-school her son and plans to open a bilingual education and childcare center this fall. Homeschooling in Maryland has doubled recently, with over 2,000 additional students joining the ranks for the 2021 school year alone.
