'Hold the Line': Rep. Roy to McCarthy On GOP Debt Ceiling Demands
Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) is urging House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to hold the line on Republicans' demands for the debt ceiling negotiations. He said Republicans are fighting against Democrats who want to keep the status quo of record inflation and record spending. Roy mentions several reforms he calls crucial, including reducing discretionary spending, repealing "grid-destroying" tax credits, rescinding Biden's student loan bailout, and instituting work requirements for Medicaid and other government assistance. He argues that abandoning these demands is "a slap in the face to Americans that work hard to make ends meet."

'You Should Never Vote for Me': Whoopi Reveals the Reason She Could Never Run for Office
ABC's "The View" is having communication issues during the Writers Guild of America strike and co-host Whoopi Goldberg has made some gaffes recently. During a discussion of a Pennsylvania senator's inappropriate workout clothing, Goldberg supported his outfit and made a comparison to her own fashion sense. Goldberg has also provided the spectacle of simulating a lap dance on co-host Sunny Hostin. While Alyssa Farah Griffin tried to speak out for professionalism, blaming the Republicans for being outraged at the senator's attire rather than school shootings and co-host Joy Behar smeared Republicans with a straw man attack. Goldberg even suggested that the senator's tackiness was a symbol of liberty.

Driver of U-Haul truck that crashed near White House appears in federal court, ordered to remain in custody
A 19-year-old man charged with depredation of government property has been ordered to detention for crashing into security barriers near the White House. Sai Kandula, not a US citizen, drove a rental U-Haul to the barriers in Lafayette Square before removing a flag with a Nazi swastika and being taken into custody. Kandula stated his goal was to 'get to the White House, seize power and be put in charge of the nation,' threatening to kill the President if that was needed. Prosecutors did not specify Kandula's origin.

Veterans, NY Republicans support Daniel Penny, demand Manhattan DA drop 'senseless' case in Jordan Neely death
A group of New York Republican officials and veterans have shown support for Daniel Penny, who is facing manslaughter charges for the chokehold death of Jordan Neely, a homeless man with over 40 prior arrests. The prosecutors claim Neely was making threats towards other passengers during an encounter with Penny in the subway. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for pursuing charges against Penny, stating the perpetrator was a "good Samaritan...a man of courage who cared about his community." Fellow New York City Council member Vickie Paladino added that "Mr. Penny served our country. His instincts were to protect and defend."

Fox News: Alabama advances bill criminalizing those who help a non-family member fulfill absentee ballots
Alabama advances bill criminalizing those who help a non-family member fulfill absentee ballots
The Alabama Senate Governmental Affairs committee advanced a bill that criminalizes helping non-family members with absentee ballots. The Republican bill sponsor argues that the change is needed to combat voter fraud, but opponents say it is an attempt to restrict voting access. If the bill passed, it would become a misdemeanor in most cases for a person to order, request, collect, prefill or return an absentee ballot other than their own, and a felony to pay someone or receive payment for absentee ballot assistance. The bill allows an exemption for family members to help other family members up to the "second degree of kinship" including parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, and uncles, provided they are not paid to do so.

Morning Joe Rips DeSantis Going 'All In' on Elon Musk the Narcissist, Despite His 'Brain Worms'
Never Trumper Charlie Sykes criticized Ron DeSantis for his strategy of launching his bid for President of the United States with Elon Musk. Sykes described Musk as an "erratic narcissistic megalomaniac" who is "publicly decompensating." He also mocked DeSantis for going "all in on Elon" and described Musk as displaying "brain worms." However, Sykes did see one upside to DeSantis making his announcement with Musk, claiming that it will "throw a certain amount of chaos into MAGA world." This news falls under the category.

The bill declares "traditional and classical" architectural styles to be preferred for new Federal government buildings. The bill denounces modern "brutalist" styles of buildings and instead suggests modeling after the "Greek and Roman antiquity" such as the U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court.

America's nuclear secrets vulnerable to 'insider' attacks with 'devastating consequences,' watchdog says
The US Department of Energy is failing to implement security recommendations, leaving the American nuclear secrets vulnerable to insider attacks. The Government Accountability Office has warned that threats could emanate from external adversaries or insiders including employees or visitors with trusted access. The DOE has not implemented seven required measures for its Insider Threat Program, even after independent reviewers made nearly 50 recommendations to help fully implement it. Reports reveal 250 insider threat incidents reported in 2017 alone, with most of the incidents unintentional. However, around a hundred incidents were threatening to national security and included "sending classified information over unclassified systems, leaving security areas unattended, and not properly protecting classified information." The report warned that failure to implement security measures would have devastating consequences to national security.

The carrier is expected to take part in drills with the Norwegian forces in the Arctic, and Norway has pledged to become one of Ukraine’s top donors.

Does Britain's Labour Have a Plan for Power?
Britain's Conservative government is struggling in the polls with a bleak economic outlook. Labour Party leader Keir Starmer has a chance of becoming the next prime minister, and wishes to present his foreign policy as a "return to normal" in contrast to his predecessor, Jeremy Corbyn, and former Tory prime minister Boris Johnson. However, there is not yet a coherent worldview in evidence, despite some recent strides forward, and Labour risks entering government unprepared.

New Study Shows Democrats Will Have to Look Someplace Besides Military Vets for 'Domestic Extremists'
A new study by the RAND Corporation found no evidence that veterans are more likely to support or be members of extremist groups than the general population. The study, which surveyed 1,000 veterans from all demographics, was conducted in response to claims that the military is an abnormal breeding ground for violent extremists. Democrat lawmakers pressured Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to root out suspected white supremacists and extremists throughout all branches of the military following the events of Jan. 6. However, the study revealed that Democrats may be targeting military veterans as supporters of extremist groups based on false assumptions.

Michael Jameson, now called Lauren Jeska, still holds the top two women's records despite concerns that he had an unfair advantage over real women. In 2016 Jeska stabbed Ralph Knibbs, grievously injuring two other UK Athletics employees who had tried to intervene, after questions were raised about his eligibility. Jeska is eligible for parole in 2029.

USA Cycling reportedly draws anger over transgender eligibility survey: 'You are going to get someone killed'
USA Cycling sent a survey inquiring members whether they agree or disagree with the participation of transgender female cyclists in women’s events. This follows the uproar created after Austin Killips won the Tour of the Gila, with the transgender participation policy far from clear. The UCI appeared to defenders of the controversial policy, but then later changed its tone in consideration of arguments to counterbalance the desire of transgender athletes to compete and the needs for an equal playing field between the sexes. The survey had a multiple-choice nature with varied responses with some members feeling frustrated that there isn't room for nuanced responses, making the survey flawed. Expect a backlash against the sport unless and until the rules are clearly defined to the satisfaction of everyone concerned.
