The New American: The Perils of "Rule by Indefinite Emergency Edict": Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch Highlights a Vital Lesson From the COVID-19 Pandemic - The New American
Supreme Court Judge Neil Gorsuch warns against rule by indefinite emergency edict, citing the COVID-19 pandemic as an example. He highlights the need for limits on emergency powers and redefining emergencies. Gorsuch refers to public health orders related to COVID-19 that allowed for the expulsion of unauthorized immigrants, which led to conflicting district court decisions. He suggests that legislators should address the hazard to freedom that emergency powers and decrees present before the next emergency occurs.
The Epoch Times: Chinese Police Order Parents to 'Immediately' Delete Encrypted Apps From Their Children’s Smartphones
Chinese police have issued notices in at least seven cities demanding parents to uninstall encrypted messaging apps from their children's phones, including foreign apps such as Telegram, WhatsApp, and Twitter, and also domestically developed apps of Seagull, Miliaomao, Shimida, and Batchat citing that these apps are used by criminals to coax youngsters into providing private information, thus becoming “accomplices” of the criminals and even “assisting internet crimes.” The police warned that these crimes are subject to a maximum of three years of imprisonment and/or fines. Policymakers argue that the encryption and the “delete after reading” function of these apps have “increased the difficulty of investigation” of these online scam cases.
Dissidents believe that these targeting of children is an attempt by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to tighten its grip over China's internet and particularly target young people. Many youngsters are beginning to circumvent the Great Firewall, which is a positive phenomenon, repeated Chen, a Chinese rights lawyer. Netizens have blasted Chinese authorities on the internet, suggesting that they indirectly acknowledge that the CCP is unable to decrypt end-to-end encrypted communication methods, and in fact asking for more information on how to download them. Policymakers fear the young generations will stand up against the CCP.
PJ Media: Biden’s DOJ Expected to Indict Trump Over Classified Documents
Special counsel Jack Smith is conducting a criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump, with close associates expecting a potential indictment. Smith conducted interviews with staff members at Mar-a-Lago, and has the option to file charges against Trump himself or refer the case to Attorney General Merrick Garland. An indictment could be problematic for the Biden administration, as documents obtained by America First Legal suggest coordination between the Biden White House and DOJ in obtaining Trump's records, potentially using the raid as a pretext for political gain. A separate special counsel is investigating the classified documents found in Biden's possession.
National Review: Obstruction Indictment May Be Imminent in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Case
Former President Trump may face indictment over his alleged obstruction of a grand-jury investigation into classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Special Counsel Jack Smith has completed the investigative phase of the inquiry, which had initially focused on Trump's retention of classified documents at the estate, but now centers on his alleged obstruction of the probe and cover-up. Biden was exposed to have illegally held onto classified information for years, leading the Department of Justice to shelve its initial Espionage Act indictment against Trump. Instead, Smith was appointed as a special counsel. While Trump's lawyers demand a meeting with Attorney General Merrick Garland amid rumors of imminent charges, it's not clear if Garland will ultimately allow charges against a sitting president.

The Blaze: Horowitz: Tim Scott has already disqualified himself by choosing ‘grievance over greatness’
Republican Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, who is running for president in 2024, has been accused of using identity politics to appeal to voters. Scott has used his identity as a black man to push for police reform and criticize the over-incarceration of black people. However, he also led the fight to block one of Donald Trump's judicial nominees, Ryan Bounds, who had written papers in college critical of identity factions on campus. This move has been seen as an attempt by Scott to virtue-signal and oppose identity politics, but has instead validated Democrat talking points and played into the left's hands. The author argues that Scott's use of identity politics makes him unqualified for any office, and that Republicans need to stop indulging in this destructive and divisive practice.
Daily Wire: The Hidden Costs Of Biden’s Inflation Are Destroying The American Dream
Inflation in the US continues to plague both the nation and its consumers, with a year-over-year inflation rate of 4.9% in April 2023. Many experts fail to realize that the inflation rate was 13.2% compared to April 2021, inflicting pain on the middle class and poorest Americans. The US real estate market is also in a recession, with declining housing market activity predicted to spill over and push the economy into a recession. Additionally, higher interest rates for cars are causing more drivers to fall behind on their car payments, and Americans are increasingly relying on credit cards to pay for monthly expenses, with 401(k) hardship withdrawals on the rise.
The Federalist Papers: Watch: Reporter Curses at Kari Lake After Her Comeback Causes Crowd to Boo Him
TV personality Brahm Resnik cursed at gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake after she criticized him at a news conference. Lake alleged Resnik refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance at an event. She lost her challenge of Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs’ win in the November election in court, but plans to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary. Resnik inaccurately recounted details about the case, and Lake’s lawyers were only sanctioned with a $2,000 fine for an unrelated issue.

PJ Media: Target Removes Satanic Pride Items Glorifying Violence but Blames Angry Customers for Being Confrontational
Target introduces a “Pride” line of products, featuring designs that glorify violence against “homophobes and transphobes.” The designs were created by a self-described satanist, and some items include tuck-friendly bathing suits for male children, chest binders, and gender-fluid mugs. Many stores in the American South have moved their Pride displays from the front to back of store and removed the most controversial items. Target corporate has blamed “volatile” and “confrontational behavior” with customers for the move rather than admit they made a huge mistake.
National Review: Target Knew of Satanist-Inspired Merchandise When It Partnered with LGBT Brand, Designer Claims
Target sold products from brand Abprallen for its 2023 "PRIDE" collection despite knowing about the brand’s Satanist-inspired merchandise. The three Abprallen items including a "transphobia" sweatshirt are no longer for sale. Abprallen sells clothing with phrases including 'Satan Respects Pronouns' and 'We Bash Back' with a heart-shaped mace in trans-flag colors. There have been calls for a boycott of Target for their inclusion of gender-neutral swimwear and pride-themed merchandise, however, California governor Gavin Newsom criticized them for downplaying their commitment to LGBT pride.

The Epoch Times: US Debt Ceiling Default Deadline Is Still Early June, Yellen Warns
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warns that the U.S. may not be able to meet its financial obligations by early June if Congress fails to raise or suspend the debt limit. Yellen believes that a debt limit agreement can still be reached between the White House and House Republicans, but it is highly likely the U.S. will default. The Bipartisan Policy Center predicts that the fiscal X-date could fall between June 2 and June 13, while economists at Capital Economics warn that prolonged inaction could result in a spike in lending conditions, leading to a recession. Yellen also suggests that tight labor markets will continue to drive up core inflation, despite a recent dip in the annual core consumer price index, while the stabilizing rent costs could lower this rate.
The Epoch Times: Debt Ceiling Negotiations Stall on Spending Cuts as Deadline Nears
Debt limit negotiations have hit a snag as Republicans seek to enact the provisions of their Limit, Save, Grow Act in exchange for raising the limit. The act would limit federal discretionary spending to the 2022 level, limit spending increases to 1%, increase work requirements for some Medicaid and SNAP recipients, claw back unspent COVID-19 funds, and loosen permitting requirements for oil and gas. Despite reports of progress, the two sides are said to remain far apart. Some Republicans doubt Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s estimate that the government could begin lacking funding to pay its bills as early as June 1.
Forbes: Netflix Password Crackdown Can Boost Its Stock By 25%, Oppenheimer Says
Netflix's stock could surge by over 25% to its highest level since last January thanks to its initiative to limit accounts to one household, which could add millions of paid subscribers this year, according to analysts at Wolfe Research and Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer conducted a survey of nearly 2,000 American Netflix users which found that 30% of respondents who expected to lose access to Netflix under the new rules said they would pay for their own subscription. The analysts estimate this would result in nine million net new subscribers in the US and Canada, far surpassing analysts' expectations.
However, even if Netflix's stock surges to $450, it would still be 35% below its nearly $700 peak achieved in November 2021. The streamer reported 74.4 million American and Canadian subscribers at the conclusion of Q1 2023, about half a million shy of its late 2020 level despite three consecutive quarters of growth. Despite this, Netflix's stock has rallied 21% year-to-date, in line with similar rallies among other West Coast tech giants.

The Epoch Times: Neither Shrunken Nor Useless: Thymus Remains Essential to Long-Term Health
The thymus is a lymphatic organ that continues to have essential functions in adulthood, including directing the development and training of T cells, which are essential for the immune system. It also produces important hormones that help regulate the immune system and play other functions. Dysfunction of the thymus can cause vulnerability to infection and increase the risk of autoimmunity. It even has clinical applications, such as thymosin alpha-1 and thymosin beta-4, which can be used to modulate the immune system and promote tissue repair and regeneration. The thymus is a vital communication hub that connects the immune, endocrine, and neurological systems to regulate the body's functions. It plays a protective role in diabetes and miscarriage, can slow down aging, and has close connections to the pineal gland that secretes melatonin. Its extensive roles in the body reflect a complicated interplay of hormones, nervous impulses, and immune health.

The Epoch Times: NASA Spacecraft Documents How Jupiter's Lightning Resembles Earth's
NASA's Juno probe has identified lightning on Jupiter originating in a rhythmic pattern similar to that seen inside Earth's thunderclouds, noting that flashes of lightning were initiated with time separations of about a millisecond, comparable to thunderstorms on Earth. Data obtained also confirms that Jupiter's water clouds contain lightning. Although the lightning rate is similar on the two planets, elsewhere in the study, several other differences are revealed regarding the rate and distribution of thunder in Jovian skies, and it is thought the condition for formation of thunderclouds may differ between the worlds.

Forbes: Author Post: Attention CIOs: Make Your Shop A Profit Center
CIOs are often limited by a budget that lacks room for innovation, making it difficult for them to add value to their company. However, they can propose promising ideas with data showing positive returns, even if they exceed the budget. For example, an AI technology could reduce customer attrition rates, and the CIO can pitch it to the CFO or CEO with projected payback numbers. This could lead to bigger budgets for revenue and profit-building projects, ultimately transforming the IT shop into a profit center.

Daily Wire: European Nation Bans Short Domestic Flights Over Climate Worries — Private Jet Flights Still Allowed
France banned short-haul domestic flights to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the use of greener modes of transport when rail journeys take less than two and a half hours. The decree will cease flights between the cities of Nantes, Bordeaux, Lyons, and Paris-Orly International Airport. The policy, a first in the world, was suggested by a panel of 150 residents aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030. However, the decree does not restrict private flights.
