The American Spectator: The Ignored Reason Reparations Make No Sense
The Ignored Reason Reparations Make No Sense
Democratic Representative Cori Bush has proposed giving reparations worth $14tn to people of African descent in the US, claiming they are necessary if a "prosperous future for all" is desired. However, critics argue such an approach could simply subsidize dependency rather than self-sufficiency, with welfare programs never disappearing. Moreover, although the end of the Civil War and subsequent occupation of the South by Union troops provided an opportunity for reparations to be paid to former slaves, such moves were not enforced and land redistribution schemes were killed off during the period of redemption. Bush's campaign has been dismissed by opponents as a vehicle for solely enriching Progressive in Power members.

Townhall: Welfare Work Requirements Make Everyone Better Off
Welfare Work Requirements Make Everyone Better Off
The Congressional Budget Office warns of an increase in annual deficits and public debt over the next decade. Republicans propose the Limit, Save, Grow Act to impose limits on spending growth and achieve expenditure reduction through work requirements for Medicaid, food stamps, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. Democrats argue against the cruelty of imposing such conditions for welfare. Welfare reform in 1996 showed how work requirements and time limits could positively impact welfare recipients, leading to a decline in caseloads and an increase in employment and self-sufficiency for women in poverty. The government needs to focus on helping recipients become self-sufficient instead of encouraging dependence on welfare.

Townhall: When a 'Travel Advisor' Is Partisan Politics
When a 'Travel Advisor' Is Partisan Politics
The NAACP has warned black Americans against traveling to Florida, claiming the state is hostile toward them. It says the state has "devalued and marginalized" African Americans and other communities of color under Governor Ron DeSantis. Despite the advisory, thousands of black Americans continue to move to Florida every year, with Brookings Institution's research revealing that Florida was the third most popular state for Black Americans to move to for 2015 to 2020.

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) followed with what it called a "historic warning against Latinos traveling to Florida." It accused DeSantis of "creat[ing] a shadow of fear within communities across the state," but it does not seem to have deterred thousands of Hispanic Americans from moving to the state. Both advisories come just as DeSantis is to announce his official candidacy for the Republican nomination for president. However, with people continuing to move to Florida despite the warnings, it is likely these advisories are motivated more by partisan politics than a genuine desire to protect members of these communities.

The American Spectator: How Can We Stop the Killing?
How Can We Stop the Killing?
America's shift from puritanical to sex and violence obsessed can be traced back to a speech by the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission in 1961. Newton N. Minow wanted to steer the country towards sophistication and restraint, but his reform failed to stop the “vast wasteland” of violent and offensive programming that dominates today’s culture. The decline of Americans’ respect for life is the real cause of violence, and no amount of gun control or criminal justice will put an end to it.

GREG GUTFELD: Have we reached peak trans yet?
Target is selling women's bathing suits that are "tuck-friendly" for ladies with penises, causing backlash. Target's CEO claims it's a good business decision, but some Southern stores were reportedly asked to move the merch away from the front of their stores. This is seen as part of a culture war blitzkrieg, raising the question of whether we have reached peak trans yet.

The Epoch Times: Former MP Says Victorian Budget a Disaster for Local Businesses
Former MP Says Victorian Budget a Disaster for Local Businesses
The Victorian Labor government has introduced new taxes to address the $31.5 billion debt incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures include a COVID debt levy on large businesses and landowners until 2033, attracting criticism from former MP Neil Angus for disincentivizing businesses to stay or start-up in the state. The budget plans to raise $8.6 billion with the debt levy over four years in efforts to offset COVID debts but could have a detrimental impact on the local business environment.

Economists have remained skeptical about whether the Victorian government can reach its surplus goals due to the difficulty of forecasting a few years out, given all the things that can change, such as the state of the economy, public sector wages growth, etc. The government aims to attain a $1.2 billion surplus by 2026-2027 by cutting down on consultants, labor hire, and slashing 3,000-4,000 jobs. However, this may not give Victorians much confidence, given the state government’s performance in recent years. Tax increases are not a sustainable mix for economic growth, and successive levies may deter business investment and employment in the state.

Here's a Tool to Find Out if LGBTQ Propaganda is in Your Kid’s School
A Colorado mother has sued her child’s school after discovering that her daughter was part of a secret gender and sexuality club. The club taught the sixth grader about polyamory, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and encouraged students to identify as transgender without informing parents. The Centers for Disease Control is promoting the LGBTQ agenda across the country through schools, with a questionnaire sent to teachers and administrators to measure how well they support the LGBTQ agenda. Schools with high scores are called “Awesome Allies,” while those with lower scores are told they should “Commit to Change.”

Washington, DC, cop charged for allegedly taking picture of witness in her bra
DC police officer, Larry Garrett, was arrested and charged for taking "inappropriate" photos of a witness in her bra with his department-issued cell phone. The officer has worked for the department since 2006 and is a member of the criminal apprehension unit. The Internal Affairs Division learned about the photo after attorneys requested a body-worn camera review in the search warrant case.

Townhall: Jail the Shoplifters
Jail the Shoplifters
Shoplifting is rampant and hurting retailers, causing job losses and empty storefronts. Some cities, like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, and Portland, have become shoplifters' paradises due to soft-on-crime policies. The left argues that shoplifting is caused by poverty, but most poor people don't steal, and organized thievery is increasingly the problem. Some shoplifters are professionals who steal goods to resell them and avoid serious consequences. It's time to crack down on shoplifting and stop coddling criminals.
