Designating Senate staffers as agents for the House Ways and Means Committee would allow the whistleblower a bipartisan testimony.

Progressives argue that the Public Debt Clause is set forth in Section 4 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which declares that the "validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law ... shall not be questioned," and they believe that the Constitution forbids default. However, the presidential debt power is a misreading of the Constitution by ascribing to the president the powers over debt that only Congress can exercise, and it would undermine the American constitutional tradition.

Markus Nevills Jr. has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after his girlfriend's 2-year-old son shot himself with a gun he found in a couch at their apartment in Kentwood, Michigan. Nevills objected to being charged, stating that he didn't shoot and kill the toddler and was "trying to see how they’re saying this is my fault." Prosecutors claimed Nevills was grossly negligent, as he had zoned out on marijuana while the child found the gun. The incident has led Michigan to pass a red flag law that will require gun owners to store firearms in locked boxes if children are present.
